- Big Ron Manager is a television documentary series based on Ron Atkinson's efforts as a troubleshooter at the English football club Peterborough United, at the time playing in Football League Two. The series was screened on Sky TV in 2006.
Originally, the show was going to feature Swindon Town and Sky spent around four weeks filming there before being asked to leave by the Swindon management. Peterborough United received a fee of around £100,000 from Sky TV for access to the changing rooms and for Ron Atkinson to assist the rookie manager Steve Bleasdale. Bleasdale was unhappy at Atkinson's involvement in the changing room and subsequently banned him and the cameras from the changing rooms on matchdays. However, later in the series Bleasdale relented after being overruled by Chairman Barry Fry.
Some scenes caused quite a stir in Peterborough when the show was aired, including a dressing room brawl between Mark Arber and Paul Carden and Bleasdale rowing with youngsters Sean St Ledger and Adam Fry.
St Ledger joked about suing Sky TV, after claiming the programme showed him as the team's bad boy, which he denied. The media alighted on this, and he was later forced to clarify that the statement was in fact, a joke.
There were several instances during the filming of Atkinson upsetting Bleasdale:
Although the club were short of funds, he persuaded Barry Fry to hire a goalkeeping coach in Tony Godden
Suggesting during an injury crisis to go for Queens Park Rangers striker Stefan Moore on loan. However Bleasdale overruled Atkinson and instead snapped up Lloyd Opara on a free transfer from a local team.
In April 2006, Bleasdale walked out of Peterborough United only 70 minutes before a game against Macclesfield. It was later reported that this was due to clashes with Atkinson. Chairman Barry Fry put himself in charge for the final two games of the season.
Big Ron Manager was regarded as a low point in the fortunes of Peterborough United. However, it proved the catalyst for future revival. Property businessman Darragh MacAnthony-who previously had no connection with the club-watched the show on television and a few months purchased the club and later became chairman. Under MacAthony's investment and his appointment of Darren Ferguson as the club's manager in 2007, Peterborough gained promotion to League One in 2008 and then to the Championship in 2009.

Every time Bleo says something like "this dressing room, brimming with confidence, full of great spirit", you (and the players) just sit there thinking "no it isn't".
"Does Big Ron still have what it takes to guide lower league clubs to success?" No. No he doesn't.
Big Ron coming in style with Mercedes car to meet-up with team at hotel by doing Rocky punches & singing to himself in front of camera.
this is like real life mike bassett
Binge watching every single episode
The reaction to 1 defeat is ridiculous. No wonder it was an unhappy club at the time.
4:50 playing for one club wearing another clubs merchandise..... Peterborough were really indisciplined.
It probably cost them promotion that season, but ironically paved the way for McAnthony and his investment which secured to long term safety of the club.
Players fighting amoung themselves does not bobe well for the promotion push either.
Mark arber was out on the packet the night before. Shit himself and poured it away 😂
The word I am looking for today is..........'''sloppy mode''
12:05 "The Posh have been humiliated..." - oh dear, those are Torquay supporters sidling out after their victory!
Tiverton's pitch was ten times better than Peterborough's Lol.
I think this guy took my wedding photos 😳
Ye he now owns a wedding photo company that is quite successful.
@@tooshlong good for him.
More cliches in one week, than most say in a lifetime. Tactics from the stone age. Constant screaming and bawling. Players who are more like school kids, than pro's. A great combo!
1 word = sloppy mode
that's two
The word I’m looking for is “sloppy mode” that’s two words bro 😂😂
“If you talk too long their attention span ain’t the greatest”
“Ok everyone, just give me 10 minutes”
😭😭😭😭
Bleasedale didn't help himself but was undermined. Was all for the money with Fry & Big Ron being big mates. Bleasedale could have handled things better but can see both sides of it. Was all for Ron to try and redeem himself over the racist incident. 100k incentive or whatever it was to do it, obviously Fry would have it. I quite liked Ron, was Villa manager and Sheff Wed, second time round and Forrest when I was a kid and liked him as a pundit but this was all about him.
Funny thing is, Bleasedale was doing ok. Fry used a novice manager he knew he could take the piss out of to get the TV cameras in there for the wedge. Completely undermined him. Whole thing is a farce lmao. Not that Ron did anything all that wrong but he couldn't just turn up and not be expected to have input. It completely humiliated Bleasedale and was bang out of order imo.
spot on.
Why’s that Mark Arber wearing an Arsenal hat!? Should be fine 2 weeks wages for that!
no tactics no details in match talk. very poor manager!
Dcfcdean81 Is that right? Thanks Jose!
You don’t have to Jose to realise the guy has no leadership skills 😂
Stfu wtf shush dean
You don't realise that team talks don't actually last 16 seconds and that these are heavily edited? You utter thicko 😂
the WORD? i am looking for is "sloppy mode"...
🤣🤣🤣
sloppy mode
Fucking headbanger bleo was
peterbrough player wearing an arsenal hat
And what is your problem with that
@@DayDay1991 because he plays for Peterborough. Idiot.
@@DayDay1991he was playing for Peterborough maybe?
“The word I’m looking for is………….sloppy mode”
Anyone know the title of the song at 4:20?
***** NY by Doves.
I don't think the club had hats back then, even the manager wears a NY Yankees hat
The overall attitude and body language of the players is appalling. It’s must have been like trying to manage a team of Kevin and Perrys.
How the hell does he choose Lloyd Opara over Stefan Moore 😩😩😩😩
I think Barry kiboshed that deal. Moore would've been more expensive than a non-league nobody.
Bleo did his best...he was let down. He also tried to work with Ron, unlike Iffy.
What’s the song on 3.20 in this video
Dear me the changing rooms at Plainmoor are shite....
His first club was Tottenham too xD
Big talk by Manager team take no notice
The number of people who don't realise that documentaries are edited and have to be cut, is actually pretty amazing.
What is the song in this video
Not a bad silver lining.
One word . Sloppy mode
Tesco carrier bag 7:56
To think back then he wouldn’t have had to pay for that carrier bag
Bleo ye a absolute bum a headbanger television fuckn gold thow ye are fabsellaaa😂
#SloppyMode
I can't get over how harsh this was on Steve Bleaswhateverhisnameis. Completely undermined, made of a fool of and criticised by a legendary ex manager in a public documentary, during his first ever managerial job. Brutal.
