  • Priming miniatures is absolutely key to getting a good result when painting. It seems simple really, but there are quite a lot of pitfalls that you need to avoid. How do you get a smooth finish and avoid messing up your minis? I am going to tell you how.
In this video, I show you how to prime and spray your miniatures if you are a complete beginner.

If in the UK Halfords Grey primer is awesome to use, goes on smooth and only 7.50 for a bigger can.

what i like to do nowadays is prima the miniature with chaos black (all over) then use a white primer from the top. then i hit the miniature with 1 layer of contrast paint (leave that to dry at least 1 hour to fully dry) and then continue paining all the other stuff and bits.

Nice video! Would you be able to do a video on magnetising limbs for different loadouts? I started doing it now on my Ironjawz but I don't know how far to take it.
I started doing it because I am scared to collect them "wrong".
Also now I don't know how to properly prime the individual pieces haha.. feels like I jumped into a deep hole

      Hi PBKB!
      Thanks for the comment.
A great idea for a video! I will certainly put it in the pipeline.
I totally know the fear of assembling a unit with the good weapon option and then later having GW change what is "the best" option. I once magnetised a whole grey knight army and I went overboard with what options I magnetised. I think it is easier in AoS where you, most of the time, only have two different weapon options.

I'd like to prime with a brush to minimise the investment. Would that make any sense?

Sorry to hear that. Frosting is the worst? Did you try any of the "fixes" people talk about for removing it?

Liked the flexible magnet thing with steel ramp, haven't seen this one in other videos. Also, the shoe box lid thing too. Everybody is using sticks. Haven't seen intermediate shakes too.
It's better to show actions when you're talking about them, i.e. show your priming can in a bowl of warm/hot water when you're talking about doing it.
I would love to see closeup of your priming results.
Some jester moves are cringey, some are really funny.

So I bought my first set of minis to start in on this amazing hobby (I been wanting to do this for years) I bought a couple of preprimed miniatures from wizkid. I don't have a rattle can primer or an airbrush, so brush priming is the only option I have currently. Is it possible to use something like a sponge brush to prime with?

👍. I've just got my first board game with minis, zombicide black plague, and I'm going to try and paint them using only contrast paints, a first for me. Would you recommend a zenithal prime consisting of black for the entire mini followed by a full figure dry brush of grey, finished up with a white dry brush of only the "light reflecting" raised surfaces ? Or do contrast paints work their best over just a simple prime of grey or white? Any advice you could give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How's Wraith Bone and other contrast paint primers with normal paint? I guess it's fine.. I prefer Citadel primers but am using the Army Painter skeleton bone I think for that color primer and find it VERY good as layer for skin tone and brownish fur colors etc.

I have spray primer and use it on a tpu plastic 3d print model. It seems to expand the piece a bit, is there something I can do ?
