I do believe you are right, I wanted to learn other languages, and I pretty much set the bar really high for a small amount of time, and I also increased the amount of thing I have to do per day. There's rarely a day i missed any practice, and mostly a do practice for hours in different moments of the day. I might have putted the bar too high, but I do tons of research (still do, for the future) and I practice. And even though I have almost a year doing this process, I have made tons of progress. I will not be great in one year, but I do believe I will be great in 6. Of course I will have more skills in some languages than others, but again. I do think that higher expectations helped me get motivated in a way. But I do have a "necessity" feeling, so I don't drop the practice any day. Thanks for the video, it gives me something to thinks about, since I'm quite fat now, it gives me another perspective.
1:59 - I agree with you on setting big goals. However, one person who as said something similar to that is Tristan Tate. He has said he beleives in setting small goals. His first goal was just to make an etra 50 dollars per day.
What helps me is to set small goals to help me get to the bigger over arching goals. But they have to be specific, they cannot be arbitrary. There has to be a specific game plan, that can be executed. The goal has to accompany the vision. In fact I might just make a video about it. Edit: Yes, smaller goals HAVE to be sub-goals
I hate the concept of small wins. They feel utterly meaningless to me and are like the adult equivalent of a self-inflated participation trophy. All that matters is when you actually achieve the big goal you set out for yourself. You made that goal for a reason. Notice how nobody pays much attention to you until you until you make it. Gee. The "that would be kind of cool" mentality makes us live purposeless and we better believe this is how the matrix wants us to live. Believing in blind luck and chances that magically present themselves to us like in the movies is nonsense, garbage. Nothing worth it's weight happens like that. Small goals = small wins, big goals = big wins.
