If you guys saw on my Facebook or Instagram pages, my friend Corsair Nut was in town and we had a little UMX scratch build madness going. We decided to follow through on a project we talked about literally a year ago...scratch building some UMX A-5A Vigilantes. Based on mine and CN's work schedules we weren't able to team up as much as we hoped, so he did most the design and building on these. I can really only take credit for making the decals and artwork and pointing in random directions occasionally with my good hand, haha! and maybe calculating the cg, depending who you ask. ;) So, here's a little vid of our adventure. These little jets fly awesome! When I get a chance, I'm thinking I'll scan the templates we made and publish them in a blog write up on our little adventure. ;) We're already talking about building a pair of much larger ones. :)

Those Vigilantes look great.. And they seem to fly just as good too..Nice work guy's..
Thanks man! They fly far better than we expected. IT was a fun week. :)
These are great! I was in the Navy and was in two Vigilante Squadrons, RVAH-6 and RVAH-12 at NAS Key West. I was a plane captain and it was my best time in the Navy.
Very cool! I love the vigilante as a design. Such great proportions!
DUDE!!!! That's Soooo Sick!!! Those things are the BEST UMX jets ever....I am jealous....seriously! Blue Skies and Happy Landings Bro!
Haha, thanks man!
Beautiful work! I always thought that airplane had sleek lines....
Thanks! I've always had a love for the A-5/RA-5C. The proportions are wonderful for a great flying model.
Awesome guys! They sure scream! Looks like a ton of fun and so stable! Good stuff!
Thanks man! They are so much fun, haha!
Glad to see these fly!
That is really cool. You can fly the snot out of them too...lol
thanks!
Of course, a genius at work again!
haha, thanks! But, I can't take any credit for these. Our work schedules didn't line up very well to team up much during the week, so I only had a little design input and made the markings and decals, Brent did the rest. He truly is a genious working with foam!
Awesome guys! They fly great!
Thanks Tony, it was such a fun time!
Horizon Hobby can learn a few things from you
that was sweet- and Iron Eagle great movie
Thanks! Iron Eagle = Best movie ever! haha! Ok, maybe not, but for some reason it is a movie that I've loved since I was a kid. lol
Are you an engineer by trade? Where did you get the crazy building skills...nice detail. You don't see any RA-5's out there
Actually, I am and my friend is a model maker by trade. We've both been building rc airplanes since we were kids.
Where is that field your flying at, Those houses look close , they dont mind the noise
It's the wingmasters field in north county San Diego. It's a small field, but the houses are pretty far out there.
I see you like to carve a lot from the Home Depot pink foam. What technique do you use to slice off pieces laterally into the block sheet, ie, say you want a big piece but like only 10mm thick?
The best way to do that is to hot wire it. For the kfir that I used that stuff on, I just shaved it down with a course raffling file and then fine sanded the contours with a sanding block.
thanks for posting. nice planes. was wondering, how is pitch over-control avoided when an all-flying stab is used, in a subsonic situation. cheers
IT's tuned the same as a traditional elevator. Basically, the max travel is set to achieve the desired feel in the air.
I love the Vigilante.
Are there plans available this?
This is the perfect size for hauling to my flying field and what we have for good pavement
I'm a big fan of the vigi too. I don't have a comprehensive plan, but I did post scans of the templates that were made in building these on my website article. The link for that is here: wp.me/p5LuFX-JY Thanks for watching!
do more of the umx jet
They are pretty fun. 😊
I have built one jet
Question what is the brand and the scale of the a5 vigilante bomber??
My friend and I scratchbuilt these. I don’t recall the scale, but was a fun little project. We still have them. 😊
@@Thercgeek oh okay
too small
Agreed, but still fun! 😊
