Theme Song by Hello Control: bit.ly/hellocon...
Just taking a moment to thank Ryan and Team Film Riot, Going strong since 2009!
Yeah it's crazy how long theyve been doing this. Sooooo impressive
SalvationsElite It's only because of their pure love for filmmaking and helping others to actualise that love onto screen.
I study film at school (i'm 17) I truly beleve Film riot has tought me more than my school has. massive love for you guys... such an insperation.
Amen(not religious). Well apart from worshipping at the church of Conolly. I’ve watched every single one of their episodes.
I was able to go from 0 knowledge to shooting an entire feature film thanks to them!
Insane how music changes everything! Thanks for the notes Ryan.
Not sure if you have seen it, but there is a limit; 40 per day. After you hit 20 or so a dialog pops up to let you know the daily limit. Thus, 365 x 40 would be 14,600 which would of course be more than enouh. It's just not "unlimited" like Audio Blocks supposedly is (which BTW has much less quality music IMHO).
I’m loving these unpolished tutorials of your workflow. It’s always interesting to see other people’s editing style/workflow. Also when I discovered that audition trick it changed the way I live life.
Up and coming and indie producers need to be mindful that their score isn't bigger than the scene. See that all the time.
true! I won't lie, I have done this to my films in the past when my adrenaline took over lol
You should turn these into a podcast... I don't really have much time to watch anymore, but I'd love to listen to these!
Music is so powerful. Great video guys!
Thank you SO MUCH for suggesting artfilm because it always seems like music is such an important part of a short film which it is, but finding the right music to set the right tone for a clip isn't easy, which is why finding the right music can make a GREAT different in your film. So thank you so much, I just checked it out and it looks like I'm gonna buy it so once again THANK YOU for making my skits better 🙏🙌❤
I've gotta say, this episode was awesome. To actually see Ryan go through the process himself, it really feels like sitting with him and learning. One of my favorite modern Film Riot episodes to date.
I love how music can alter the meaning/viewpoint of a film or clip. Music is, in my opinion, one of the most important part of a film.
Sicarian
You are correct! As a musician I think more about music than other aspects in filmmaking sometimes I even get inspiration for writing scripts through music.
Thanks for using the track in your video - glad it was a fit!
Thanks for much Film Riot for your large archive of these helpful videos. You have been helping hundreds of thousands of aspiring filmmakers like myself for so long, thanks so much
One of the best videos on UA-cam.
Love you guys sooooooo much! Been watching you guys since 329,000 subs
Film Riot over 10 min Episodes on a Monday AND Tuesday?? Hi, God.
Hello. I'm very forgiving
I had no idea you could remix songs in Audition. Definitely a game changer for my editing process. Thanks!
Hey Ryan - this video was a golden nugget!!! it is so helpful to right away hear your thoughts about editing-desicions while you are making them. This is totally different to the usual "explaining afterwards" - style. I really liked this!!:)
(I hope, you can understand my english and get the point..)
really enjoyed the casual nature of this video, getting to see and hear your initial reactions as you edit! really enjoy all your videos!
Seeing the same scene with different music is really fun and educational! I could watch hours of it, please do more!
Another awesome film riot video! Nice work guys!
I've been using music from SmartSound for years. Their prices treat both the artist and end user with respect, the work is very high quality, the terms are reasonable and include all the social media stuff you'd expect, and the number one reason is their proprietary software: Inside it you tell it how long you need the music and it intelligently (in my experience - not talking AI here) edits to length a version of the original song within a few frames typically, but sometimes a second or so, to fit. Plus you can get mixes for VO, without percussion, as "big" as possible, etc., all with the same "song" and software. Pretty amazing.
Wow! That remix function is going to change my life. Thanks a ton Film Riot!
Please do make a video on such shortcuts that can change the whole editing style:D
I liked this type of video. Keep on doing what you're doing!
even thought this was most likely sponsored i felt that it was very sincere and genuine
I love the 'big production value' sketches film riot does. But this episode is awesome. It was great to see Ryan geek out on different music vibes.
Great tips! Love the remix feature
Guys, Thanks for sharing such great stuff! Success!
That remix tool is so cool!
This was really fun to watch, besides being educational :D
Another great video from you guys, I reference your videos during and after every project! Keep up the good work!
I like these types of episodes. Do more videos about how you handling editing and computer stuff
Great video Ryan.
I really like this! I think you guys should do more of this
+Jayronimo Films Thanks. Will do. :)
Can’t wait till you finish
And that's whyyy you filmmakers have us, composers!! 😄
haha yea!
For the countryside drone footage, I didn't feel too much one way or another with the first piece of music. With the second music sample, I definitely expected a story with a small-town feel about it-had a wholesome and/or adventurous feel. With the last music sample, there was definitely an ominous vibe to it. The scenery felt isolated and lonesome.
I’m just happy your having fun
Music has always been a great tool to express the feel of a scene, but sometimes, silence is more powerful.
You, sir, have a magnificently full mustache.
Also, really good content in the video. ... if you’re into that kind of thing.
😜
Thank you for helping me with my film
I dream of a time where there will be a place where independent music creators can be connected with independent filmmakers.
Overuse of music is also a problem for many filmmakers. Using no music or silence is just as powerful of an emotional impact. The Westworld to Yuma is a prime example of not needing music. If fact it completely destroyed the tension of that scene.
Posted 6 seconds ago? Wow that was quick. Never been so early.
Very good, Thank you!
Awesomre video, I definitely try to take music into account when editing, in fact the music and sound is just as important to drive emotional impact (its the heart and soul of your video). I did not know about adobe audition tool for lengthening or shortening a music clip for timing to fit! Ill definitely check that process out as its an area ive struggled with when editing music tracks in other ways!
More videos like this please :) love to see your editing process
Great video, very helpful
I definitely hit the tilde key when watching back the part in premiere...
This video makes me feel emotional
Hey Guys I’ve been a film Riot Subscriber for years I love what you guys do, your tutorials and ideas on low budget independent filmmaking have helped me a lot! It’s really cool to see my tracks from art-list.io in this episode, glad you liked them! Can’t wait to put some more up there! Keep doing what you guys do much love!
I love these type of videos. One suggestion is when you were showing the clip you were selecting music for would be to mention the vibe you wanted for it. That way we could form our own opinion of what works and what doesn't. I have found that kind of exercise very useful. Thanks. :^)
Imagine the Tears in Rain sequence from Blade Runner without that score. Omg. Imagine ANY great scene from a movie without its music.
Everyone right now be watching Peter Mckinnon but my heart will always be with Film Riot :)
Funny how I've been doing this kind of music choice since the begging!. I have the footage and I kinda know what song I want so I'll just search for something that can provide the feeling I what and that's it. Wow...
Audition respects any cuts in a music clip when using remix, so if there's a specific section you want, just add cuts before and after what you want to keep and use remix on the clips before and after that section.
+Chris Sparrows 😱 Nice! Trying that asap! Thanks for the tip.
niceeee , thanks for sharing
Guys, if you buy Artlist through there link, then they get another 2 months of subscription for free! buy it through there links, you wont regret it! I have it and love it. my clients are always asking me where I get such good music, do your self a favor and buy it.
Very useful the remix function
Yes!!!👏👏🎬🎥
Beatport isn't a bad place to find music, although it is EDM focussed. Audio Network is another good one.
I simply love film riot
You’re a god Ryan
The first one seems like the start of a wedding video. 😂😂😂
AmFilms123 it really has. I saw a drone shot in Justice league and thought the same. I was waiting for Jessica + John to pop up on the screen 😂😂😂
AmFilms123
Since I don't watch wedding videos like ever It hasn't been ruined for me.
Great as always. Any chance you can do an update on your thoughts on Adobe video editing vs Hitfilm and their new 2018 version. My son wants to get into this and looking to see which is best for him to start on. Thanks.
More of these puhleaase!
You need some western suspense background music slow phaseing to match the slow walking movement of the horse and of course you
2:39 felt like a Superman Movie
The hip hops the best lol was I the only one who seen it fit pretty good?
I really wanted to see an "X Gon Give It to Ya" vibe song for Westworld to Yuma
Film Riot: i watch for a good time and to learn.
Peter Mkinion: i watch to learn
dslr guide: i watch to learn
devinsupertramp: for the sake of watching it
Could you walk us through a little bit of composing music for a film?
I want that pillow.
Ryan, you guys are really sumtin, let me tell ya. I hope to someday maybe work together. I'm working my way up. Dope video.
I would loveee to make videos like you guys!! The videos I put on my channel are so bad it's funny
Can you guys do a tutorial on how to edit music into a scene with talking and cinematography?
8:17 That’s literally just the theme song from the 1967 Spider-Man animated series
If possible, could you drop some links to a few cinematic songs for reels or short films? Thanks :)
Hey Ry guy! What did you use for this recording? Did you use Screenflow?
Maybe I missed it but I would love to know the first song you tried for the western footage from your short
Nice video
My employer's taste doesn't excite me. Lot's of "Business Man Wins The Meeting" kind of stuff. So, I just cut ads to whatever song I want, finish my edit, find a song my employer likes with a similar tempo, make small adjustments where needed, and ship it. I cut an ad for a kids' camp to "Glass House" by Kaleo. Damn, I wish we could have used that one.
Hi tundey here from nigeria, thanks for the video ryan, i just checked out artlist but Is it possible to download any preview of this songs just like in premium beats?
Hey ryan... can you teach me how to walk on water without using any fancy glass thingy?
something on comedic editing tips music would be great :) ;)
can you do a BOW OF EPIRUS special effect
Check out Audionetwork.com. They have a free Premiere Pro extension that lets you search for music from their website in PP! How awesome is that?!
Best of all, you can download tracks to test out inside PP, and then once you’ve picked which tracks you like, you can buy them. The extension automatically replaces the lower quality preview version you used with a high quality .wav file.
Did I mention the preview tracks don’t have an audio watermark???? It’s nice. I like them, and I think they’re reasonably priced.
I'd like a track that syncs with the stride of that horse
I love Film Riot but I lost count on how many episodes they've already done about this subject
We have a Film Riot Discord server! Come on n join y'all:
discord.gg/xDXaWzn
Hey, film Riot can you make A Ant-Man one? like, shrink yourself? I would love that.
I use the same technique. :)
@Gilroy how did you get so many subscribers?
9:25 Chansplaing song from WatchCut. Welcome.
I would get artlist but I really dispise subscription based services sometimes
Can you compare art list to epidemic sound?
Yeyyyyy
Ryan for president.
Omg, I feel kinda stupid for downloading so much stuff :/ ty!
do somthing like Avatar, with planet on the backgroud please
I'm just gonna drop a rap album about the cowboy life...
