sound design is the most underrated aspect in story telling, its all about conveying the tone/emotion
Also knowing the difference between music (the subject of this video) and sound design (a different topic altogether).
You’re such a thoughtful content creator, damn! I love how you described all of this and categorizing music into thinking vs. feeling. I can’t listen to anything other than abstract beats/consistent rhythm-type stuff while I work, or else I get pulled into the music and distracted. Some friends listen to classical music, or singer-songwriter stuff to work but I absolutely cannot. I try to explain this to some people but I think unsatisfactorily 😆.
ua-cam.com/video/O0ljg4Zyr58/v-deo.html I listen to this when I work.
This was one of the best quarter of an hour of my life used in quite a while. Thank you very much!
u inspire me bro. every video u make every single animation, transition and storytelling u do is inspiring ... I personally thank every sponsor you get. I hope you become a millionaire and continue doing what you love. Cheers.
The change-up at 14:30 opened up my mind and my ears. It was the perfect way to demonstrate the use of music paired with visual elements! I'll be sure to incorporate these tips in my compositions! Thanks for the intuitive tips, Johnny.
It's not enough that your cinematography, animation, and overall video-producing are amazing, now you're telling us that you made the music as well!?
Man, how long will it take to be at your level 👏🏻
Man, i always feel so focused and entertained with your videos, now i understand a bit more on how you do it! Just amazing work, keep up!
2 minutes in and I know this whole video will be a stellar creation of power through word and music. Mad props
As a music video director turned UA-camr of course I realized the power of music....I wonder if musicbed is as expensive as before after the free trial as it was hella expensive the last time I checked...anyways after your video I'm finally going back to their website...I never thought "thinking" was a category but it makes alot of sense now that you mention it
Go back and forth between thinking and feeling. Really inspiring !
This is the video I needed to watch. I always (even though I only made 2 videos as of now) struggle to choose the right music for my video. Thank you so much for this. I can totally feel the though process underneath.
When you introduced the idea of feeling vs thinking... I stopped listening when the feeling music played, then instantly focused when the thinking music played. That was cool.
Johnny bro, you should launch an exhaustive, comprehensive course on UA-cam video making/ documentary making/ vlooging / mapping / music/ score /story telling / script writing/ perspectives and paradigms shifting/ hooking-holding-waving-delivery in story/ narrative, etc stuff.
That'd be a fun project.
LOVED THE VIDEO...SO NEEDED THAT EXPLAINATION...WITNESSED IT A HUNDRED TIMES BUT NOW I KNOW IT....INSPIRATIONAL INDEED AND BY YOUR MEANING OF INSPIRATION!!! FOR STORYTELLERS THIS DETAIL IS THE BIBLE AS I UNDERSTOOD AND THANX AGAIN!!!
Damn our musical tastes are very similar. Every one of my videos is taken from a genre called something like "electronic chill beats" or something like that lol
Intense. Simple, and almost an innately understood concept. Yet, intense. You've got a wonderful way with words and structure (by no means a very easy task, with such a "fuzzy" topic). Loved the video, as always! Looking out for more related content.
Awesome video Johnny, after this video, i can really see how photography, drone usage and music come together so well to show ur true talents as the person you are, keep up the great work.
Plus you make and explain things so simple and in a informative manner that everyone watching gets what your tryng to explain, many thanks.
Thank you so much. This will definitely be very helpful.
Making videos for work and finding Nuggets of gold in this video. Thanks Johnny!
This is AMAZING ! Thank you for sharing your inspiration ❤🎉
You are an AWESOME PERSON! I WATCH ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS, AND I ALSO MESSAGED YOU REGARDING MUSIC, AND YOU REPLIED AND HELPED ME OUT!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU ARE AWESOME!
Great stuff! Please do another of these vids. I’d love it if you do one for edutainment channels.
Justin
It was interesting to watch this video as a musician! It is nice to see how others perceive and use music.
Other than that really shitty kick sample in the beginning. Damn that was a really shitty sample, like the default one shot sample kick that comes in Fl studio
If you have a university, I would love to be one of your students 👏
New to the channel. Your international date line video brought me in and I been bingeing. As a music producer I found this video super fascinating!
That was amazing. Thank you so much for this. Now I can improve my running videos. I always fall in to the same mistake of using soooooo much feeling music.
Gosh dang it, even playing the “emotional music” outside of an emotional context hit me 😂
Johnny Harris you're the fucking MAN! Your videos and work ethic are tremendously inspiring!
Thank you so much for this. You are so intelligent and articulate. I learned so much from you and your instruction.
Thanks bro, thats exactly what I was looking for! 👍
Its all about absorving and make conections with all ur memory contents and feellings , when u get inspired some times by any music u must start to ask ur self about whats the similer princples inside me which
make me feel that way ?
Why this music is badass and epic to me ? It expres what inside me ?
By the way im an artist , i make all the time connections between the visuals and music , when idraw istart to think about the rethem and story and force behind my project and including music effect of speed or fustrations or celebrating or sadistic all of that in my imagination !
Great videos, i have ever watched about principate about using music,
Johnny Harris is great video journalist
Johnny, PLEASE! You and I are about the same age, and work in the same profession--but you're also a father, husband, world traveler, video editor, musician, After Effects master, Vox God...please, leave something for us mortal men to do too!
I needed this
Good stuff. Music is extremely powerful
I always enjoy your technical stuff 🙂 super helpful and informative! .
I'm watching your videos like its fresh bread man. Hats off! Hopefully at some point I'll start doing this as well... What do I need to do in order to make myself start doing videos? You talked at some point about how you began but... As you probably know the hardest thing to do when it comes to passion is to just start doing it and follow through...
I have literally went to the music license provider I use for my videos and added to my collection 31 songs which sounded like Thinking ones 😂
Thinking vs feeling music, love it!
I understand you bro 👍
Awesome tips, thank you! Loved the part about switching between moods, will think about how I could incorporate that in my own videos.
Make a video on “how you write your script” ?
This is really awesome!
Thankyou for making these videos
Thanks for sharing your wonderful knowledge!
"I've done a million times" haha so sincere
listen to Colorbox> Cyanid, ive yet to find a more powerful motivational or inspirational tune to get up and just do something productive, just gives you tons of energy.
Honestly, all of the tips that i learned from you and Iz have helped me a lot in creating my own video projects for school. Thank you so much for that. But--
Is it alright to ask about the West Philippine Sea borders video disappearing from the Vox playlist?
Haunting drive scene....🤔
100% same. Im currently making a documentary and it's taking longer then i had planned but there are segments which requires the right music to 'inspire' the scene and emotions that will be felt by the viewer have to be right. The right music transcends the story from then screen into the viewers own experience. But it has to be the right music.
this video inspired me to be inspired!
thank you :)
Ya boi!! New vid
Welcome to Perú 😊. I like your channel and I would like to do something like yours😉👍👍
i thought you would’ve used splice when considering percs/drum loops for your videos
10:50 So tender and yet... his serious face. lololol
Share your music!!
Great video
this felt like a masterclass
Motivation > Inspiration!
u r so legendary
Whats the program that you're using to make sheet music from what you're playing?
Musicbed is only cheap for UA-camrs (some of whom earn millions!), but I have to pay $90/month to use their music for the short social media ads I make! And I'm lucky to get one client a month...
Whats your music gear and hiw often do you use it???? I notice the op1. It so complete but kind of expensive and i dont know if I would use it that much
Suggestion to change "thinking music" to "vibe music"
you don`t have a chair when work?
It is a way to work, like film riot or other director and editor. It helps you understand how much time you spent on the editing and to find the better time to have a break
What software and gears is he using to create his music?
I want to download uR opening song johnny...
i like the original song
is there is anything you hate to do?
Am I watching a Udemy Master Class right now? Great Video
WHAT??? YOU MAKE YOUR OWN MUSIC??? WOW!
It is the most hight level of skill for s filmmaker
@@FrancescoPaggiaro i know right!
No - Johnny is constantly thanking and linking to the musicians who write the music for his travel pieces! So this was weird - I know he makes music for himself (from previous videos) but - so far anyway - he picks/buys/contracts music from other musicians. If it wasn't the middle of the night I'd go get examples but just look at the descriptions under all his (and Iz too) videos and see his music credits. Maybe he's changing - who knows?
No one:
Me:the orange jacket😍🥰😍🤩
Hehe, it is waiting in the background
😂😂😂
cmon, it's like the first thing I noticed :)
"I approached Uniqlo for this video..."
Me: instantly notices OP-1 and thinks "oh... he really does make music"
same xD
Holy shit Totally missed it until I saw this comment
samee dood, i was kinda surprised ^-^
well ok yeah, but he seems to download other folks' music more, so i'm confused
This guy is very brilliant. One of the best in his field.
This video is brilliant! So cool watching the layers build. Makes me want to learn more about recording my own tracks
Just noticed you’d left a comment about music on my film untethered, appreciate it. I of course now wish I’d done some better tone matching, but always space to grow.
Great video! Something I need to do more of
The amount of research you do for your videos is enough..
An Atlas Pro comment with 14 likes and one reply? That feels like a sin.
only 2 replies and 21 likes?! make it +1!
you should make podcasts. i think u’d be great and i would definetly listen
Videos - Beautiful
Music - Dope
Style - On Point
Goodness Bro!
Tom Fox your music is awesome! Love it!
God damn it. Is there anything you're not perfect at!
I enjoy your videos a lot! Each has a perfect balance between the speaking part, visuals, and the piece of music you have selected. As a video editor, I know how important music is, and also, I know how hard it is sometimes to find a good piece of music! Everything in your videos is on point! Besides the learning part, I’m always inspired after watching!
I started using musicbed because of this video. I use to spend hours and hours trying to find the right music for my videos, in all sorts of different places. This just makes my editing life so much easier!
A video on how you learned to make music? Is it online /offline? Software? Gear?
Oh wow that’s so cool! Love to see your entire process 🙌🏼
I love this video!!! I drive myself crazy searching for music for scenes in my videos and I feel like I’ve ran through every song on Epidemic sound. Tone matching is important to me and I enjoy storytelling. I love your videos, music choices and storytelling from Vox to your personal videos. Thank you!!
You’re an amazing multimedia journalist ! What stuck with me was the back and forth between thinking and feeling music
I feel kinda guilty of liking this video before it even starts🤣🤣 but I mean u know it’s gon be a good video 🥵🥵🥵
I always like videos before watching & if I don’t like it, I Change it to a dislike. Liking videos helps out the creators so I always try to leave one.
Thanks for sharing and teaching the community. This is insightful, and it offers me an opportunity to reflect and make adjustments. Also, it inspires me to go and mess around with stuff and just see what happens! Thanks!
0 dislikes, can we maintain ?
Let me call Thanos .
22 people disagree. 😅
Who else wants the title of the that song ?
4:16
Meee
some version of Ave Maria
I think it's Jackie Evancho
Libera Ave Maria, i think.
Ave Maria by Caccini
Thanks for these tips Johnny! Filipino Dyslexic Architect fan here from London
The first track that you played on abstract beats is exactly what opens my latest explainer about Singapore’s rapid growth, and I felt all the same things you just described when I chose it.
Great video man I love that more people are spending time on thinking about how music draws out emotions in UA-cam videos!
Andy Burgess yeah it’s pretty cool to understand what’s behind a video!
That jacket has to have something to do with it, right? Even with this video....there it is.
The red jacket instantly made me think of the space suits in the movie "2001:A Space Odessy"
Johnny you're a huge source of inspiration. You really gave away the special sauce that makes your videos feel so balanced. Love your work.
I think you just have put words (and provided a basic framework) on what I was trying to achieve intuitively with music in my own editing. In the past I watched one of your video and I tough to myself that you used music in a way that propelled the story and I said to myself I must try to emulate that. And now you give us some of the keys to it, thanks.
I am not even the whole video through, but i will for sure, please continue uploading such videos I hope this inspires you, to inspire us.
Dude you inspired me so much! Thank you for this!
Please do a video about libraries where you can download background music and talk about copyright rules. Moving pictures combined with music, what we call media, is something many of us want to be "masters" of, to evoke strong emotions etc and create an audience to our stories.
This was awesome!! I’ve always enjoyed how melodic your videos are and getting a glimpse into work thought pattern when making a video.
Thank you Johnny!
