If the news of Ananya Pandey's involvement wasn't a let down enough, the trailer itself was disappointing, so my excitement had died right then. Ayushman is a very good actor. I loved his roles that pushed boundaries, doing what no other actor in his position was daring to. An Action Hero was such a good one that went under appreciated. He's very talented, so I know he'll make a comeback with really good roles again. I just hope the audience is receptive to movies outside of mass commercial ones and rewards him for a job well done.

@@raja-jl9os it depends on who is being cast.... In the 90s, you can see Karishma Kapoor and Kajol always crying in films and wait for actors to save them and they only in films to romance actors. ( I agree Kajol did Gupt, which was good and she got what she deserved).
During the early 2000s, we got Amisha Patel and Katrina Kaif to starred in movies only to play love interest and nothing more.. It's like a story is written, the actor will do anything but we need a female lead for romance and song so let's cast her and she will be seen only in songs and some unnecessary romantic scenes.
From 2010 till now you've got, Sonakshi( Rowdy Rathore, Dabangg, action Jackson, ) Ananya, Sara (Simmba), and Katrina again (Even in Dhoom 3 she was there for songs only).

I think due to his failures of his past 4-5 films. Ayushmann has not announced even a single film post Dream girl 2 😢 Hope, his choices is not affected due to those failures 🤞 An Action Hero was such a fantastic film.. I wholeheartedly agree with your takr on Action Hero. It was a really breath of fresh air. But not only Ayushmann many other actors are also chasing BO numbers. Most prominent example rn is SRK. Just like Ayushmann, SRK was also experimenting with movies like Fan, Zero etc. But when they failed he decided to give people what they want hence we have movies like Pathaan and Jawan now. Honestly my only hope for a legitimate SRK movies is Dunki. Hope Ayushmann also starts experimenting again

Apart from everything, Like Jammy said, I always wondered why the female lead has to change in the sequel when the male lead remains the same. You spent an entire movie to set the leads up and then suddenly you change them without any explanation. In one part the "Hero" is head over heals for the "Heroine" and then in the sequel she's been forgotten without any traces. There are many sequels where I wanted the leads to have a more detailed story of their own. I wanted the director to explore more. I hope we see some story explored like "Ek tha Tiger" series but better.

Contrary to your review many friends of mine from Mumbai told me that they were constantly laughing throughout the movie. They told me the climax was a big letdown bcoz it took a serious turn and people intended it to be funny as it should have been. And as far the plot is concerned, you can’t expect every movie of Ayushman’s to be a gem/cinematic marvel. Some films are meant to give you a good time and help you skip the reality for 3 hrs. Will watch it here in Canberra.

As for the male leads being unchanged and female leads being changed in some successful franchise films, its a no brainer as SINGHAM didn't work becos of Kaajal Agarwal and neither did DREAM GIRL work because of Nushrratt Bharucha....their presence or absence doesn't really dent the next film in the franchise in any way given how little they brought to the table in the first film itself. In fact, even a supporting actor like Annu Kapoor and Manjyot Singh had a lot more to do in DREAM GIRL which is why they are retained and reprise their characters in DREAM GIRL 2 as well. It's a fair call.

Kareena over Kaajal Agarwal is one thing but Ananya over Nushratt is quiet another. When you change a lead you do so for either wider reach, dance numbers, larger role in sequel, etc. Ananya doesn't fit the bill in any regard.

Blame average writing for the failure. Paresh Rawal and Seema Pahwa were also a big let down, Abhishek Bannerjee and Vijay Raaz weren't given much to work with. Only Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav were mildly entertaining.

DREAM GIRL 2 VERDICT - Overall, paisa vasool entertaining comedy, 3.5/5, 8/10 ( on a scale where welcome and golmaal are 10/10 )
Brilliant acting by Ayushmann Khurrana , just brilliant, one of the best renditions of a female character
Most jokes are landing, comedy is much much better than Bhool Bhualiaya 2
Just need to switch your brain off and not look for logic everywhere, but most jokes are landing
First Half is better than Second Half, There is a dip in some of the comedy sequences in second half
Biggest negative is that the plot motivations of Abhishek Banerjee are not easily understandable or explored that much
Comic performances by Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Annu Kapoor, Seema Pahwa, Manjot Singh ,most of them OG legends of comedy is very good, Raaj Shandilya has good comic dialogues for most of the time in the film.
Ananya Pandey is only present in 20% of the movie , more of a special guest appearance than a main character in the plot
The Songs also were very good
