Yes, you can do a free file on irs.gov. Or just file on turbo tax and fill out the return with zero income. Just make sure to claim the rebate and say your can’t be claimed as an independent.
Ummm you don't have to pay taxes on it but it is actually just an early tax refund. So what ever ur getting for taxes this year is actually a early tax rebate for next year, which they will just deduct off your next tax return for what ever u get in stimulus for this year. So they will loan your money to you a year in advance which they will takeout the next following year in your taxes. So ur not getting anything extra. For example my sister 18 filed taxes she's only getting 250 from working in 2020. Added the 1800 for stimulus rebate so a total of 2050 in her tax return, but next year in her taxes she's actually going to have to "payback" 1800 or they or take it out your taxes return until u r caught up. So if u really don't need it don't get it. It isn't extra money its just a early refund ur BURROWING. Or a cash advance program for ur tax money they owe yearly regardless.
@@TheBizyB I understand what u r saying its non-taxable because it is ur tax return in advance. I will definitely let them know to pay it off asap so no interest and other issues to deal with.

I really appreciate this video, I have a few questions myself. I just turned 20 and I filed for 2019 for myself but didn't get any stimulus what so ever for both, on 2020 filing do you do anything different for the credit rebate?

My son never received either check. He believes the first one might have gone to Child Support. The second one still hasn't come. He didn't file 2019 because he only made about $200.00. When he files his taxes this year for the Rebate Credit will he get it as a direct deposit since he now has bank information? Will he get both? If he owes for his 2020 taxes will he still get it since it's noted the Stimulus wasn't supposed to go towards any taxes owed or child support? It's so confusing.
The rebate credit will be part of his taxes. So depends if he chooses to receive his tax refund as a check or direct deposit. If he received the first one he won’t be able to claim the credit for the first stimulus on his 2020 taxes. If he owes taxes the recovery rebate credit will cancel out what he owes. For ex: He owes 1000 in taxes if he qualifies for both stimulus checks (1800) he will receive a refund for 800. So the credit isn’t separate from taxes.

You would have to file an amended tax return.
Get a new accountant too.
Where is it on turbo tax?
It should ask you if you received the stimulus checks. Put no and it will automatically add it to your return if you qualify.
Hi, can you show us how to file it step by step? My tax preparer insisted that I’m not qualified for the stimulus last year Bcs it was based on 2019 tax return when I was a dependent. However this 2020 I filed as independent and wanted to claim the recovery rebate credit but I’m not sure if he did that.

You should be getting both checks based on that info. Make sure to put you can’t be claimed as a dependent.
What if u are outside the United States of America can u still apply? Am stuck in Trinidad and Tobago due to closer of boaders me and my 3year old son we are both citizen
Yes if you meet all the qualifications (ssn, us citizen, income) and you file US taxes.
I got the 1200 but didnt get my 600 or 1400 and i file taxes
Hi. I’m claim my parents at 2019 tax they both retirement and they not get any from stimulus check. They not get it. Because I claim them? Please help
Yes, I believe because they are technically “dependents” they do not get the stimulus checks.
What if you are under 21 and want to file independent, will you get the $1800?
Yes, just put no one can claim can claim you as a dependent.
Ok thanks ... am going to file tomorrow... so it doesn’t really matter if you are 18 or 19?
@@emmanuelejueyitchie2488 Just tell them you want to file as independent and want to claim the recovery rebate credit. If you are going to school full time your parents can still claim you.
What if you didn’t file any taxes in 2020 and didn’t get the 600? Do you fill out only line 30 on a 1040? I don’t understand the form
IRS said i owed 600. I told them i could not understand how i owed them $600. They asked me to file the Recovery Rebate Credit. I am not sure what is going on. Can anyone know?
Did you get unemployment last year?
@@TheBizyB I did not. I received only the $1200 for pandemic fund which was distributed to every tax payer.
@@leetomlee7265 it’s possible you owe 600 tax liability based off your taxable income. And you did not receive your 2nd stimulus check for 600 so they’re saying to file the credit so they cancel out. Did you receive the 2nd one?
@@TheBizyB Thanks so much for replying me.
No I did not get the second stimulus check. However, I could not figure out how i owe them $600. I rechecked my income tax calculation several times. I am sure i did not owe them anything at all. And I did not know how they came up with the $600.
So I called them. They said the Recovery Rebate Credit is not allowed because social security number is missing or incomplete.
Should i call them again?
I did not even get the pandemic unemployment money at all. They kept saying my identity is not verified.
@@leetomlee7265 Yea you will need to have a valid social security number to claim it. I’d def call them or maybe it’s possible to do it on irs.gov
Can a 17 year old turning 18 be independent if made more than 10k?
Unfortunately I don’t think so unless no one can claim you as a dependent.
So, i got the first stimulus check, but not the second one. Im 20, and im claimed as a dependant. I was told i either wasnt supposed to get the first one or since im over the age of 17 im...sol...
You weren’t suppose to get the first one if you were claimed dependent for both 2018 and 2019.
Okay. Thanks for the info
