Lovit when young folks take senior around to remember the good old days ed was happy.
Aww I love the pure pleasure on Ed's face seeing that beauty. He will be greeting you at pearly gates many years down the road.
@@IowaClassicCars so many times youth tend to forget about our elderly and sometimes forget to appreciate them for who they are and were. So great to see you see HIM. Since I was a child I enjoyed hanging out with elderly; they taught me so much of eras I never got to live. Ed and you are blessed to have each other.
Fond memories of late daddy's 56! Tu-Tone black/red with red interior. I still see her like it was yesterday! Bought new, he traded in 64 for a new Wildcat 4dr hardtop.
Fell in love with these watching California Highway Patrol in the 50's
I learned to drive in a ‘56 Special 4-door sedan. It’s great to see this one brought to life.
Good for you taking Ed for a ride. Loved it and him. I’m 73 and still remember that “Special” sound.
I love these tri-five Buicks. Beautiful trim with many two-tone color possibilities. Nice find 👍
What a great car!!! 50s cars are really wonderful. Glad you saved it. This one is worth restoring if you have the skills to do it.
I had a friend with one of these in the '80s. It was the most dependable car he had. It always started. I think his was a 4 door sedan Special though. You got lucky with this one not having to take much apart like Mortski always has to do.
This is awesome Ryan! Loved the ride along with Ed. I was smiling the whole time!
I had one of these here in New Zealand, it was a 4 door 56 Super with 4 portholes in the fenders, and had the Nailhead and an old carter 4 barrel carb. She was old-school pink and white. Awesome cars.
My first car was a 1956 buick super, two door hardtop model 56r. It was the same color as yours, but the official color was tahiti coral and dover white. I also had the Carter 4bbl type WCFB. SPLIT PRODUCTION ON 4BBL SOME BUICKS used the Rochester 4gc 4bbl
A stunning design, especially the dash!
My Dad used to own a '55 Buick. I think the interior was the same color. Solid black outside. It was a 2 door hardtop. Seeing this video brought back memories !!
👍Thanks for taking Ed for a drive, nice extra in your video. Great work, Great Buick!
Great car, this is worth fixing up!!!
You have really great taste in automobiles. I'm glad you're saving these old cars and finding them homes. There's nothing like driving one of these old classics. My daily driver is a 1959 Chevy 1 ton panel truck that I've had for 37 years.
I really dig post war cars especially 1950 -69. Mid 50s to mid 60s are the best. Have fun with it, looks like a candidate for a restoration.
Ryan, YOU are a CLASS act; ED, you are THE COOLEST!!! LONG LIVE ICC!!!
I love Ed! If he’s 89, he’s probably a Korean War veteran. Much respect. And your video, along with the Buick, was done well. I’m subbing.
He is. I recorded a video with him about 3 months back, check it out! Called memories of the past
All you need now is a "Sonomatic" radio to go in the dash. I had a customer that had one of these and dad told me to drive it in the shop. After I couldn't get it started, he came out and said to push on the accelerator. I was almost as humbled when a customer with a '64 Plymouth Fury came in and I couldn't find the gears. Great video!
@@IowaClassicCars Really? You have good luck! I don't remember if Buick has "all transistor" radios like Chevrolet's "Wonder Bar" radio did. You'll need to let it "warm up" if it has tubes. Great video!
@@lvsqcsl The radio has tubes. Change all the paper and electrolytic capacitors- especially the "buffer" cap and the audio output coupling cap. If not, you risk burning out difficult-to-replace parts.
Oh man Ryan. Great car! Turn the key, push the accelerator starter and GO! What a great catch. Big Al.
Very nice find on the '56 Buick it's rare to find a four-door hardtop and if you want to make that horn louder there's usually a screw on the horn itself the horn under the hood that you could adjust, to make it louder or lower it's possible somebody turned it down because it was too loud but they're usually a adjustment screw on the horn to change the sound thought I'd let you know, again great find 👍🏼
To get the Jay Leno "Now THAT'S a horn!" seal of approval, gotta have both horns online.
Nice to see the old Buick back on the road. Just almost to good to be true, that it was that easy to get it going after it sat that long.
How sweet of you to take Ed for a ride. That brought tears to my eyes. So sweet!
What a beautiful old Buick! Absolutely love it!
*Wow* ...what a beautiful sight to see....and hear this gorgeous automobile run! Great to see her come to life again and up and running. So sweet of you to treat Ed to a spin...it really took him back in time. Whoever eventually owns this beaut, will be very fortunate and it would be great to see it when she is all restored and back in black (sorry AC/DC, couldn't resist)! You're an Awesome guy Ryan and thanks for another interesting and fun video...and really good quality video to boot! Cheers from British Columbia, Canada :D ....Loved the car horn sound and that red & black interior!
@@IowaClassicCars Did you change the oil and filter in this before running it or did it look pretty clean?
@@mikesamra9126 it looked clean, but changed the oil again once it was finally running
@@IowaClassicCars Excellent. This car would be worth restoring. Four door classics are catching on more and more.
Pretty clean '56 Buick!
I hit the like before watching, my grandfather had a '56 Special in orange and white and was the 4dr hard top, I remember riding in it when I was around 6yrs so late 60s and remembering how big it was on the inside wow what a car, thanks so much for sharing, looking forward to more videos and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!
Love the car! I looked at a 53 Special with the inline 8. Those are great cars! Might be interested in something like that!
Really nice Ride ,,worth fixing up !! 4dr Hardtop ,,Nice find.! Looks like Ed enjoyed the cruise !
I have had one of these Buick Specials for 36 years. I still enjoy driving it, even after all these years.
You are a totally cool macho guy. I keep my cars too! I own a '73 I bought new in '73.
Thanks ICC for the nice video and the honorable fun with Ed. Make sure you let him know how YOU are having fun with him, shooting the sh!t, going for a ride, having ice cream, etc. Make sure he knows that you enjoy him and his wife. Friendships like that are precious and mean alot to all. Keep on posting - we'll keep on watching. Chuck in NE Kansas
Black and White, Baby! Love it!
I've had old cars all my life and I can tell you, it's always about the people more than the cars! The most fun I ever had with old cars was sitting under a shade tree in a small Iowa town shooting the breeze with my relatives waiting for the parade to start!
What a beautiful original car
My Grandad had one of these, red & white. He used to let me sit in his lap and steer it, which I loved as a little tyke. He drove that thing all over the country staying in touch with family and being an itinerant Baptist preacher up and down the Ohio River valley. I loved how you took old Ed out for that ride. A great piece for restoration!
Nice! That's a rare FACTORY A/C car.
I see you're running the small carb...
The two bbl was standard, the 4 barrel was optional and made those things SCREAMERS.
Also optional on the Special was dual exhaust.
NICE FIND!
Oh!
When you go to service it for the first time, drain the old oil and refill it with cheap ATF... Start it up, but DO NOT REV IT... Let it idle for an hour or so.
The ATF will loosen up all of the crud that's accumulated and also free up your rings and valves.
After it's good and warm, drain it and THEN replace your oil filter and add new engine oil.
Cheers again on a great find!
Should be restored & sent to a good home where she'll be loved, cared for, & driven.
In the early 80's my friend bought 1 for 2500 bucks. Still had the original spare. Only had 40,000 original miles. What a sweet ride.!!
In the early 70s I bought one exactly like this for $25. Hopped in it and drive it home then sold it for $75 and felt like I hit the lottery.
Couldn;t he hear the noisy lifter(s) going tap tap tap? Awee, such a nice sweet old man. He loved riding in that Buick.
Great looking old car... I used to have a 53 Buick with a straight 8, I miss that car..
,
My favorite uncle had one of these. I remember riding in it many times when I was 5-7 years old. Love the dynaflow. The Special was the entry level Buick, hence the rubber floor mats and manual steering. I could tell a Buick because the engine speed had nothing to do with the street speed. I am from "Buick-city", Flint, Michigan, so lots of these babies around town in the day.
My friend Marty has the 4-dr post version of this '56 Special. Not only is it manual steering but also manual brakes, and a manual transmission (I believe only 2% came that way from the factory). Imagine what a beast THAT is to drive!
For 1956, 4 door hardtop is the most popular body style for all GM cars.
@@davidtosh7200 As it happens, I myself once had a '56 Olds that was a 4-dr hardtop!
YET, if you noticed, he wasn't having to strongarm that steering wheel tho either even though its a manual steer. Not too bad when you can handle the camera n steer it to.
@@jamesthompson8008 The secret? Check out that giant steering wheel!
@@bombasticanimal1853 Lol, not necessarily a secret, but yes that's part of it...also has to do design of front suspension at the time. Buicks were known for being very driver friendly as opposed to other makes in the same era. Some cars were ungodly to drive without power steering then.
While I have no recollection of it, my very first car ride was in a 56 Buick, being brought home as a newborn. My dad kept his until he got a 59 that he kept for 14 years.
Great that you stop by Ed’s and gave him a ride.
I would love to have that old Buick I've always loved the 55 and 56 Buick special great Ole car's
Good looking old Buick. Great job getting her running. Had 54. 2 door hardtop when I was in high sch.
The ‘54 Buick is such a simple, classy design. Would love to own one myself.
In 1959 my Grandmother took me on a road trip from Illinois to Denver to see her Daughter (my Aunt) and their family. She drove us out in her nearly new 57 Buick Special, Power steering, brakes, windows and AC. We had a great time and saw the sights along the way. She was a wonderful Grannie and the car was beautiful dark green and smooth V8. Your car reminded of that trip. Good restart and should be a nice cruiser. Thank You, Dennis
Excellent Ryan. So glad you got a Buick back on the road. Iowa Buick Club member.
its cool to see a younger person interested in these old cars....dont lose your passion and be sure to pass it on
My grandmother bought a '57 Special 4 dr hardtop new off the showroom floor. Pink & copper paint with a pink, black & white interior. Typical '50's color scheme. It was also a factory a/c car. Traded it in '62 for a new Electra 225.
Pretty nice for an auction car. It didn't fight you at all ! Glad you got a hold of it ! Ed really enjoyed the ride !
Sweet! Thanks for just making it run and keeping it real. Love these videos.
Funny, my best friend next door had that model and color when we were in high school in 1963. I had a 56 Pontiac and could never beat him ! LOL
I will be 64 in April, I grew up on Buick’s.my 3 favorite 50’s model Buick’s were the 57, 58, and 59. Especially the 58, my father had 2 of them, he did have a 57 but never a 59 although I still Love my Buick’s.
Gotta love the sound of them old nailhead V8s, nothing else sounded like it
Beautiful Buick Special 4dr Riviera! Buick named all of their four and two door no post cars Rivieras,
I have always loved that style of Buick wish I had one today beautiful car
I think it's a good looking car! When I was in 2nd grade, someone in the neighborhood had a similar car. I always saw it as I was walking to school, and admired it! I just love it when I see people driving old cars. Which, of course, is rather rare these days!
I rescued a 56 Buick special 2 door several years back. Black on white with power seats and windows. I didn’t have it long but was fun while I did. The “blood” speedometer and dynoflow transmission was so cool. Great find Ryan!
Really impressed with how well preserved the interior of that car is. The headliner is in phenomenal shape.
G'day mate well done to you man your a good young bloke .still have respect for your elders you can see you were brought up well and continued to be a great person should be more videos like yours today thanks mate respect 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
could you do a part 2? like a pressure wash and a vacuuming maybe the trunk and floor id watch it.
I had a 53 Special with the floor starter. Sold it in 20001. it was a model 48D which was the equivalent of a two door post, or they called it a two door sedan.
A good friend of mine has a 1956 Buick Century with Dynaflow transmission ... Fantastic car! I went cruising with him a couple of times and it's always a thrill to hear the sound of the V8!
He uses it little because it consumes a lot of fuel and here in Italy gasoline has reached crazy prices!
Nice find man! 👍😎
That would be the perfect candidate for Buicks famous 1956 tri-tone paint. White roof, red body and black below the check mark with red Wheels.
Amazing how after sitting for 23-24 years the power steering works effortlessly and it has brakes are stopping it without issue.
Very nice car. Clean it up, enhance the patina, new tires, minor maintenance, and keep it.
Love the car! I own a 55 2dr hardtop. Seems the trans is not working quite right. I don’t think you need that many rpm’s to get her moving and up to speed but awesome car none the less!❤️
That was mighty nice of you Ryan to take the old Buick by and let that old fellar see it and take him for a ride in it too! I like those old tri5 Buick’s!
Nice job of taking Ed for a ride. 😎
Yeah the black and red really do look good on them it's pretty nice car looks like you're having fun just keep it up
Good looking car. It would really look good restored.
Hello, I was on Google
& searched for Buick, then I found this video.
I own that car now 😝 Got it home to Sweden in March 2022.
Glad I found your video🤗
@@IowaClassicCars Yes, I was happy when I brought it home. 😃
But the sad thing was that I didn't get the key to the car. So had to buy a new ignition lock and luggage lock. Now I just have to fix the door lock too 🙈 but it's not that important right now.
I still have a bit to do on it before I can registration inspection it 😊
Hope you understand my english 😂
Nice car, I've got a 56 2 Dr special.
Such a great find. 1956 is a unique year because all of the American manufacturers were on point with a four door HT in their lineups.
Very noble of you to share the day with Ed as well.
Hi, this is my first time watching your channel and I really enjoyed it ! I grew up in Minnesota by the way where cars do get a bit of rust. I clicked on this as I remember well as a child this was my Dad's car. It was light yellow with a black interior and I remember well riding in the back seat. What a Cool car ! With our growing family Dad traded it in for a 1964 Chevy Impala station wagon, also a very Cool car !
The Joy is I am now at the age where I can probably start thinking about owning one or two classic cars myself ! Thank you for reading and I will keep an eye on your channel for more Classic car videos !
for those that can weld replace the rust or encapsulate areas and repaint ya got a good one.
Love this car,,
Just a helpful hint for you, whenever you need to prime a carburetor with fuel from a bottle always put a cap on the bottle with a small hole in it, it's far easier to control the fuel flow amount when your squirting it in ( it's also far safer ) ....keep the videos coming !
Great find!
Cool 😎
I am wanting to say the parking lights go off when the headlights come on. I had a '61 Pontiac Ventura that did that.
Great Car, glad you picked old boy up he sure enjoys it. I kinda hope you keep it and Fix it up.
Reminds me of the Woody Allen movie Sleeper and the VW starting right up. Great find. 👍
Mate you are the luckiest man I have seen I want one of these so bad damn!!!
That’s a sweet ride! Worth doing body and paint back to black, drop a couple inches and roll, fix anything else as you go!
I love your videos! I restored a 1968 Barracuda and a Mustang 30 years ago here in Germany. But I also like the 50s/60s GM cars. Best wishes ! Michael
You are a true Gentleman taking Ed for a drive...Priceless.
thanks CJ!
Ed is a treasure what an old school Gentleman
