The first time we sold a house that we REALLY LOVED, we wrote a letter to the new owners and hid it on a shelf. They found it three months after the closing. Their letter to us is one of our most precious possessions. When building our new home, we asked the builder to let us know before closing in the walls. We wrote a Bible verse for each house room and hid them in the walls. We moved from that home too, but the blessings are still there with the new owners. Both of these things. Leaving a note behind AND being covered in scripture literally as you write verses on the framing. My friend wrote a message on the beam in the attic of the home they raised their kids in. Another friend had their family and friends give them a bible verse that they wrote on the framing of their new place. ❤
I find the hardest part of leaving a home is the day we leave for good. It's the moment of looking around as I close the door that last time, and thinking of all the loving times we experienced as I glance the space. 😭 I don't think we realize how attached we families become to our home until that moment.
I’m going to have a hard time leaving our home when the time comes to move. We live in town now, but my daughter was born here. It’s our first home, and as excited as I am to someday have our home in the country, this is also where I learned to be a mom and I finally started my business. I feel like we’ve really grown with this home. It’ll always have a special place in my heart!

My third daughter was born at home, my second took her first steps, first daughter slept all by herself for the first time ever in her own room on the first night. So many family meals and memories. Walking through the house for the last time was one of the hardest things I'd done in awhile! Just hit a year on Halloween since we moved, and sometimes we still get a little sad! Yes! We lived in the same home for 17 years before moving. Both of my kids were brought home to that house. Memories of my mom in that house who passed away before she could see our new home. When we packed up our house and my husband and I were doing a final clean, I just started crying while vacuuming my daughters room. At the time, she was 12 years old and she had always been a tornado and her room always a mess. She would have art supplies and crafts, shoes, clothes, etc all laying around. To see that room completely empty really did something to me. We have moved on now, took 3 years living with my inlaws to find something in this market. We found an older home that needs some updates but it's on almost an acre in a nice neighborhood. We dreamed of land and a home that didn't need updating, but that's not how it worked out. I still miss that first little house of ours, though. All 960 sq feet of it. So many memories.
I agree, but i then try imagining a nee family, maybe a little baby and another on the way, coming in and imaging their future in that home. Cooking at the stove i made my daughters breakfasts at, sweeping up the same squeaky spot in the floor, playing with their dog where we did ours❤

Bittersweetness is an emotion I know all too well. Over our 35 years of marriage & tours of duty we are now settled in our 33rd home. It overwhelms me to even say those words. My advice to your family & encouragement for the new beginning is this. Keep an open mind & heart for the new house. You & the new home will have to get to know one another, learn her quirks & let her embrace you as you find her comfy spots where you can relax in. Fond memories of the home you're leaving will always be yours & ours because you so generously shared her with us. God Bless You.

We just moved into our forever home. Packing I thought was going well till the packing of the last things. Moving with farm animals closing in one day on both houses was a dreadful experience. We didn't get to our new house till 7pm and I'm so glad Lird willing I'll never move again. I have such calm and love for this house like no other. I thank God for it everyday. And while moving was a dreadful experience I thank God everyday it's behind us and this wonderful blessing he gave us. Prayers for this journey until you will one day be sitting with a cup of tea and babies asleep thinking how wild the journey was and in awe of the blessing you have.

3 years ago we moved from our farm where we lived for 8 years and I birthed 4 of our 7 children. I still miss the memories of that wonderful place. BUT, it is bittersweet because we moved to our dream farm, our forever home. I’m so excited for the new memories you will build ❤
I feel like I’m somewhat where you’ll be. We lived in our house for 6 years and brought 2 babies home to it. We have been in our in between the last year. Finding a place with more land for our kiddos. But you are the one that taught me not to wait for the perfect place to start your “farm” living. I will tell you though, there’s nothing like moving into a new house that you have designed just for your own family. Every family is different with unique needs and desires. We built our house 28 years ago with 4 children. It was quite a process and not an easy task but our children are all grown of course, and I still love it. Good luck on your new adventure. While I cannot relate with still baking right before the move (my SDS has been sitting in the fridge for months); we did just move out of our beautiful Victorian house after 5 years there for a place with more land. Definitely bitter sweet. I assume you'll be staying in the same general area though, which helps. Whoever buys your house will benefit from all the loving updates you have done. To this day I occasionally look up my previous homes or drive by if I'm in the neighborhood. It's like a punch in the gut sometimes. But so much of life is changes and moving on where new memories will be made. At least you have a video diary of these years. Reminds me of the song "If These Walls Could Speak."

We just moved into our forever home. Packing I thought was going well till the packing of the last things. Moving with farm animals closing in one day on both houses was a dreadful experience. We didn't get to our new house till 7pm and I'm so glad Lird willing I'll never move again. I have such calm and love for this house like no other. I thank God for it everyday. And while moving was a dreadful experience I thank God everyday it's behind us and this wonderful blessing he gave us. Prayers for this journey until you will one day be sitting with a cup of tea and babies asleep thinking how wild the journey was and in awe of the blessing you have.
So so amazing to end this chapter in the cozy kitchen as you prepare delicious treats! The music, the candle …. It was quite spiritual…. So lovely.

3 years ago we moved from our farm where we lived for 8 years and I birthed 4 of our 7 children. I still miss the memories of that wonderful place. BUT, it is bittersweet because we moved to our dream farm, our forever home.

I feel like I’m somewhat where you’ll be. We lived in our house for 6 years and brought 2 babies home to it. We have been in our in between the last year. Finding a place with more land for our kiddos. But you are the one that taught me not to wait for the perfect place to start your “farm” living. You bring peaceful longing thoughts of times pasted, and sad thoughts of my future that was lost a year ago when my husband was killed & I was injured for life by a reckless head on driver who broke the law multiple times that day, we were just heading home. I’m a nurse & tried to save him, he saved me that day with how he maneuver the car to put me out of danger, but doing this got him killed. I’ll never recover this loss of my trusted best friend.

Thanks, for sharing. It's sad for all of us. Were selling our farm after 17 yrs.(we have been farm 30+ yrs.) & moving to something smaller(were on 130+ acres). We will miss the grass fed-beef etc.

Sure going to miss seeing this beautiful old house and all of your homemaking in it. You styled it perfectly with beautiful antiques. I will tell you though, there’s nothing like moving into a new house that you have designed just for your own family. Every family is different with unique needs and desires. We built our house 28 years ago with 4 children. It was quite a process and not an easy task but our children are all grown of course, and I still love it. Good luck on your new adventure. I can’t wait to see what is ahead for all of you.

While I cannot relate with still baking right before the move (my SDS has been sitting in the fridge for months); we did just move out of our beautiful Victorian house after 5 years there for a place with more land. Definitely bitter sweet.
I assume you'll be staying in the same general area though, which helps.

I'm very sentimental about memories made in all the places I've lived, especially where my son is concerned. To this day I occasionally look up my previous homes or drive by if I'm in the neighborhood. It's like a punch in the gut sometimes.
But so much of life is changes and moving on where new memories will be made. At least you have a video diary of these years.
