Little does she know, her crush is also rocking upstairs to it, dancing around just like she is. So its basically like they are there together and rocking out to their favorite music. But her roommate is pissed off at her crush, and forwards many noise complaints to the building manager, who after some time, decides to kick them out of the apartment. The girl is crushed, knowing that her crush is leaving and that she won't have those through roof dance parties anymore. So when her crush is leaving the apartment for the final time, she stands by their car with her speakers and blasts the one song that her crush always listened to, Mr.Brightside. When her crush gets to their car, they see her and are confused. She tells them the whole story, and they smile. Before they leave, they hand her the Hot Fuss CD. She is confused because she always thought that they just used their phone. Before she could ask them, they drive off. She opens the CD case and inside, the CD is signed and there is a note that says: "I had lived in that apartment for 2 years before you moved in. The first night I heard you move in, I also heard you play Mr.Brightside on blast. But it was only that night. After that, I never heard you play any music again. It is Friday night. The couple in the next apartment told you earlier they were having a party, said the music would be loud and late, but they didn't invite you. All evening a mix of early 2000s recapture-the-glory-of-college rock bleeds through the shared sheetrock and too thin insulation, accompanied at times by the random titter and exclamation bending around the balcony divider, bouncing off the parking lot below into your closed bedroom window. Just about the time when you are on your fourth glass of wine, trying to find answers to question of why you are feeling left out at the bottom of your wine glass, the crest of midnight approaching, this exact sound comes through the living room wall. And you feel like an answer has been revealed to you, not the answer of the question you seek but of something else that was important to you once, though now no longer.

Was it even fair that you had to experience the feeling of taunting like that. Tears were your only instinct that would register to you. The floor was cold and you didn't care. You wept with warm tears that tried their best to warm your face a your blood couldn't do it since it drained from your face over these past minutes. You hear knocking and you lie motionless. I thought about sharing my prom experience with you all and maybe it'll shed light on how much I love/hate this song. Here you go:
I want to go home. It's prom night. My friends are all having fun inside, and I just need a goddamn breath. I step outside because I can't take it anymore. Seeing everyone dancing so damn happily without a single worry or care is nauseating. And I see her. Dancing with him. I can't take it. My breathing is getting harder and I can barely walk straight. I step outside for a while but my friends trace me down and find me in front of the fountain. They ask me what's wrong but I just tell them I needed some fresh air. They know I'm lying. They tell me I'll be alright, and to come back inside when I'm ready. But I'm not alright. I'm far from alright. I haven't been for two fucking months. Moments later, I hear a familiar tune playing behind me. I know what song it is. As the opening guitar riff rips through the night, I hear teenage voices yell out loud in unison as they began to all sing along.
" None of them even understand it," I tell myself," they don't even know what this song's about. They've never felt this way before and they never will."
I continue to judge the others from the outside, as the song continues on. I can't stand it. This whole night has gone to shit. I show up an hour late, I'm super underdressed, and now my ex is happily having the best night of her teenage life with someone else. I can't fucking stand it. But I need to face the facts. This is my last chance to make someone of myself. I run back inside as the vocalist gets ready for his last lines of the song.

As I rush back in through the open doors, I rush towards the center of the dancefloor, where I see them on the side. They're arm in arm, happily smiling and gazing into each other's eyes. The neon lights are flashing over my face, but I don't blink or even bother looking away. And as the voices around me sing me out, I realize that this is the worst night of my life.

Little does she know, her crush is also rocking upstairs to it, dancing around just like she is. So its basically like they are there together and rocking out to their favorite music. But her roommate is pissed off at her crush, and forwards many noise complaints to the building manager, who after some time, decides to kick them out of the apartment. The girl is crushed, knowing that her crush is leaving and that she won't have those through roof dance parties anymore. So when her crush is leaving the apartment for the final time, she stands by their car with her speakers and blasts the one song that her crush always listened to, Mr.Brightside. When her crush gets to their car, they see her and are confused. She tells them the whole story, and they smile. Before they leave, they hand her the Hot Fuss CD. She is confused because she always thought that they just used their phone. Before she could ask them, they drive off. She opens the CD case and inside, the CD is signed and there is a note that says: "I had lived in that apartment for 2 years before you moved in. The first night I heard you move in, I also heard you play Mr.Brightside on blast. But it was only that night. After that, I never heard you play any music again. I was never one to blast songs out of my speakers, but after that night, I did. And I made sure to always play Mr.Brightside whenever I did it.

You’ve never felt like this before. You get a stomachache from the butterflies. It’s sickening but you love it. You rewind what happened in your head. You can’t get them off of your mind. You hear the song coming to an end. It’s satisfying but you’re sad. The moment you had is over and you’ll never experience it again. You look at them, you both smile. You feel better. You’re in love.
