There’s this abandoned mall in my town that I guess, now that I think about it, is not completely abandoned. There’s a small section on the ground floor used for getting your permit and license. My family and I went one time while my brothers were getting their permit but it was taking forever so we all explored the mall. It was basically empty, most stores were chained up or just completely empty, and the only reason we could see was because there were these skyview windows, much like the ones in this picture of the video. We got to a booth and my mom said it was a hotdog shop and she worked there when she was a teenager. My dad even came by that shop every day to see my mom.She said back then, it was a super popular mall. We then went to this to this gaming room they used to go to with their friends every weekend and Friday night. The picture from this video looked so much like the mall I visited so it just reminded me of this. I’m glad to live in times now, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to actually live in the 70s and 80s.

@@JustwaitNwatch-w Sure. I worked at a Hot Topic in Junior and Sophomore years for extra money in the 2010's. At the time I was working weekend morning shifts and on the specific day that this event happened I had gotten high off pot and was browsing the /mu/ board on 4chan super late the day before. During the whole shift I was just out of it like crazy. When I had finally gotten off work I went to the storage area in the back which my coworkers and I treated as a break room kinda thing. I sat on the metal folding chair just doing whatever on my phone when I decided to rest my eyes and accidentally fell asleep. When I was awoken by the guy on the later shift it was 9 or something and just left. While I was walking out of the mall it was dead silent except for radios quietly playing Somebody that I Used to Know. Nothing too exciting but it won't be forgotten.
Ok but at more or less the start of corona I went grocery shopping in my local mall, wearing a mask, the mall was completely empty and "heaven is a place on earth" was playing over the speakers. That was the most 'dystopian movie' Ive ever felt

I absolutely adore these kind of videos and the feeling that they give, it’s not..the surrealism but something else entirely I can’t quite pin down. Either way they always keep me calm, even staring at the still image and listening intently
I was graduating high school a couple days after in 2017 and i was in a small mall like this but it was closing and the sound quality of the music and me walking alone in a mall made it so special and I’ll never forget it. It was the INTRO to “kiss me” by sixpence none the the richer. Those 10 seconds replay in my head forever now. 😢
grew up in a town where a lot of stuff was just starting to really hit its “dying” phase at the time. the mall that looked basically dead like this had my karate class in it and was one of the last few things in there. I could hear the quiet music still playing in the hall if I focused on it enough. The smell of gym mats in my nose… used to go to this Kmart which was in a building with a long pointless empty hallway. Liked this dollar theatre that was always empty and had no working heater so mom always had me bring a soft blanket. It was condemned years later. It always smelt like an unfinished wet basement. The laundromat we went to had a kids area, a living room, a pool table and plain metal chairs/tables next to snack machines. Always weirdly vacant despite looking like it should’ve been occupied. I was about 7-8 having no idea what nostalgia was yet I felt that “chill” ALL the time. My parents and I used to have fables about mysterious creatures living in the “back” and out of sight in some of these places. I had a mild fixation on the idea of friendly ghosts, and I’ve loved the scent of wet basements and empty spaces ever since.
POV: You are a ghost who had been killed recently due to your Ex’s inability to get over you and you eventually getting cut out abruptly and they was the only who could have saved you since they was the security. You were filled with vengeance and wanted to get to pay, even if you were in the after life. One day your ex comes after 4. It was your chance. As they walked through the mall, you started to sing the song as well as having lightbulbs blowing up as the song continued. Your Ex was terrified, and started to sing back to you, but to no avail. You were too far gone. As the song continued, pieces of the roof started crashing down. At the last line, one final pillar hit them.
Well this is a mood. Ever just zone out and look blankly forward at nothing, you see everything in font of you but you're not really taking any of it in maybe you hear a song on the radio if you're on an car trip or something but don't think about it as it softly plays, all other sounds blocked out as you gaze into what might as well be the void of space til someone rudely snaps you out of your peaceful daze.
imagine going in a deserted mall, hearing something play out music while moving, you find the music player and realize it's just a roomba on which a musicplayer has been ducktaped
As if the song wasn't creepy sounding enough. This is perfect for a psychological thriller as the protagonist is walking around and the antagonist is right after them, hiding and waiting to be in their sight.
In a beginning I thought this was kinda funny but by the end I started crying idk why, it made me so nostalgic. A lot of things have happened these years, I'm a little older now and my youth is not like it used to be, there's so much behind now, so many things I can't take back, so many people I used to love and I never got to see them again. I became really lonely these years and many of those friends probably don't even remember me anymore. So many moments that will be forgoten. I was so happy back then, I was smiling and making friends all the time. I can't understand why everything had to change so much. Now I can't stop crying. I was never a fan of this song really but certainly was part of an era, an era that I truly lived. I existed then, way more then I do now. How crazy it is to come up with these thoughts as I'm working my night shift rn. Good night people. See you in 10 years.
"you watch this video in the mall" "you close the video" "the song still playing" "now you look around and find out you are alone" "the song gets louder" you tried to find the exit but the light turns off and it gets dark" "you screams for help but nobody could hear you" "and then you realize that you work as a security and your friend plays the song bc he's bored"
There are two realistic reactions I could give 1. Yes finally a place to call my own hangout where no one can bother me 2. Who on earth started playing this music and what are they planning to do to me
It's an apocalyptic world. You are struggling through the wreckage of the earth. And you hear this. "BUT YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO CUT ME OFFFFFF" is the only sound heard for miles.
Imagine you the last person in a shopping mall, and as the doors lock, the guards forget you. All the sudden, this song starts playing, and you see your crazy ex girlfriend/boyfriend in the corner of your eye, and they star screaming and chasing you!
This one hits me hard especially because the mall I used to go to a lot, it’s still open now, they always used to play this whenever most people would leave at night, and I always stayed there with my parents for ages to where they would just play this exact same song on repeat.
I guess I'm pretty lucky to live near a shopping center that has a mall there that's been built in the 60's. This shopping area is very popular and growing, ever since I've been going to this mall, there's just been a few empty stores, and in a year or two all these empty stores in the mall are filled in with modern businesses and stores, makes me happy to see a mall that's still alive that I can go to instead of shopping online or going to Walmart
Imagine Im running away from a group of bandits in a post apocalyptic world. I run into an abandoned mall, then this song starts playing. I dont have anything but a knife...😭
Fun fact: when I was younger I was terrified of the music video for this song. The reason? I thought the guy would get in trouble for drawing on the walls.
I remember disliking this song when it was super popular cause it was just so overplayed but now I have a nostalgic fondness for it, especially since it fits the liminal space vibe of this that I love, and so well too.
This made me miss going to Mall... Even though i mostly came there for food and just follows my family around buying whatever the hell they were there for. Now i lived in a more country area, away from the city and it's modern life.
This reminds me of something. Almost like a nostalgic shopping experience when I was a kid in a shopping centre. The shopping centre is getting demolished this year and it makes me feel kinda sad. But this video makes me feel nostalgic.
just imagine you and your crush are walking through the mall on a saturday night... then you ask your crush if they like anyone. your crush responds with nothing... you ask them again, this time, they kiss you
That's so sweet! But the lyrics of the song don't really fit with the situation since it's about losing touch with a lover after a seemingly friendly break-up
i love this kind of place because ur all alone but u dont know if someone is actually there. if they was you'd end up chatting about the place and being friends.
Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love, and it's an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well, you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad it was over But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough No, you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that, though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done And I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing (aah-ooh) And I don't even need your love (ooh) But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough (aah) No, you didn't have to stoop so low (ooh) Have your friends collect your records and then change your number (aah) I guess that I don't need that, though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know) Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know) I used to know That I used to know I used to know Somebody
The first time I heard this time I was in love with this wierd lil quirky tune. I told my best friend as we listened "Welcome to hearing the record of the year". And it won the grammy introduced to Gotye by none other than Prince!
Imagine walking through a mall during a post-apocaliptic time and this starts playing
pretty much now....
We actually would be like somebody that I used to know before they wore a zombie

I always feel like this would be a map on cod zombies
When no one is online.
Facts
A lot of people seem to find this creepy, but I could find myself vibing in this situation. A good song starts playing, and I have a whole mall to myself to dance around??? Sign me up!!
I'm with you
Same but i got creeped out on that room thing on the right of the images feels like "Something is watching me" and i've also seen this image on my dream except with no interior design plant/trees
Just got done watching hey there Delilah in an empty toys r us with moderate traffic in the background 😅
Now here I'll definitely have an overnight party by myself, cook my own fries, burger and get a drink at the vending machine. Right after, I look for the furniture store, find a bed or couch, move it to the tv section, and enjoy my life while listening to the music in loop.
This is how you feel like a story protagonist
i love both malls, and this song. Putting two and two together make it amazing. i was born just a few months before this song released so it gives off nostalgia from my era
*for some reason, everyone suddenly a profesional horror story writer*
Like lol
It oddly has the same energy as the song by itself
imagine walking through here in a zombie apocalypse, everything overgorwn. all thats left are the rusty speakers booming this song, and bodies of people.
I literally had this happen to me when I fell asleep on break in the back room of the Hot Topic. I woke up to this and the amount of vibes was unholy.
Can u please elaborate more
@@JustwaitNwatch-w Sure.
@@Grass-seedling sounds wierd ... So how did it gave you unholy vibes what made feel that way
@@JustwaitNwatch-w it's just an expression it's not that deep.
@@Grass-seedling oh okay 🤣🤣 i actually take things seriously , so it was deep for me ..
Ok but at more or less the start of corona I went grocery shopping in my local mall, wearing a mask, the mall was completely empty and "heaven is a place on earth" was playing over the speakers. That was the most 'dystopian movie' Ive ever felt
This song is so strong it's not even creepy, it's just mood
If there's a ghost playing it you should ask who hurt it
This could be a series! The tune in different locations...Under water...In a bathroom....in the forest....DO IT!
**Song name** but it's in the room next door
**Song name** but your under water
**Song name** but your at a party bathroom
**Song name** but your at a abandoned mall
**Song name** but sad
**Song name** but your in a empty room
**Song name** but it's in a empty parking lot
For some reason I'm imagining myself roaming through the empty mall in roller skates and singing along
cool
So do I!
Ok but this is actually aesthetic
This is so soothing omg, childhood songs are the best. but in different situations, this would help calm me down if i were being chased by someone
I absolutely adore these kind of videos and the feeling that they give, it’s not..the surrealism but something else entirely I can’t quite pin down. Either way they always keep me calm, even staring at the still image and listening intently
when the youtubers "overnight challenge" starts to get creepy
Hiding from the Corona Virus.....feels nice
Finally...a place I can sing this song loudly and no one will hear me!
Is there a playlist for these "Song X, but it is playing over the speakers of a large empty building" videos? I'm obsessed with them
You can easily do this with all music. Just look up ways to add "reverb" to audio.

This reminds me of something, not a show, not a movie, but something I felt years ago, and I felt it again
That's not scary, that's a vibe 🔥
imagine going in a deserted mall, hearing something play out music while moving, you find the music player and realize it's just a roomba on which a musicplayer has been ducktaped
As if the song wasn't creepy sounding enough. This is perfect for a psychological thriller as the protagonist is walking around and the antagonist is right after them, hiding and waiting to be in their sight.
Why does this make my heart hurt? Idk why but It just gives off this strange but lonely vibe qwq
Jessi Cartoons oof same
Somehow every time I hear this song it feels like I'm back to 1950-1960. And it made me feel like I was living in that time
This would be terrifying for me, the instrumental of this gives me chills sometimes, especially 2:18
Worked at a movie theater for my first job. This reminds me of working late, dead weeknights while movie trailers played in the lobby.
I love the chills and vibe it gives me
Ive heard this song blasted in a half dead mall, thanks for finding the vibe for me.
I can still remember how life was when this song first was popular
"you watch this video in the mall"
"you close the video"
"the song still playing"
"now you look around and find out you are alone"
"the song gets louder"
you tried to find the exit but the light turns off and it gets dark"
"you screams for help but nobody could hear you"
"and then you realize that you work as a security and your friend plays the song bc he's bored"
Just dance since no one is watching
Cameras are filming
"Now you're just somebody that l used to know"
*Damn that hits hard in this vid*
There are two realistic reactions I could give
1. Yes finally a place to call my own hangout where no one can bother me
2. Who on earth started playing this music and what are they planning to do to me
Came here for the title, recieved exactly what I was promised. 10/10 narration, amazing storyline and I loved the character development
Imagine playing hide and seek in an empty mall with the love of your life, then this song suddenly plays
Something about a popular song playing in a liminal space makes it less scary
I guess I'm pretty lucky to live near a shopping center that has a mall there that's been built in the 60's. This shopping area is very popular and growing, ever since I've been going to this mall, there's just been a few empty stores, and in a year or two all these empty stores in the mall are filled in with modern businesses and stores, makes me happy to see a mall that's still alive that I can go to instead of shopping online or going to Walmart
Same I love malls
This popped up my recommendations at 4:23am anx and bro if i heard this at a mall at 3am I'd think I'm getting chased by the beat
Imagine Im running away from a group of bandits in a post apocalyptic world. I run into an abandoned mall, then this song starts playing. I dont have anything but a knife...😭
U have my cousins name wtf
Focusing the song when he starts singing at 1:33 till 2:18 and then back again at 3:03 really brings it to another level.
Fun fact: when I was younger I was terrified of the music video for this song. The reason? I thought the guy would get in trouble for drawing on the walls.
Hahah that’s cute
I remember disliking this song when it was super popular cause it was just so overplayed but now I have a nostalgic fondness for it, especially since it fits the liminal space vibe of this that I love, and so well too.
I feel like I’m in a mall and all of my imaginations just come alive
HELP IM ADDICTED TO THIS
supermarket lore:
Imagine hearing this song while you're getting chased by a nextbot in gmod. Probably the most terrifying shit to ever happen
I know we are all making jokes and everything but can we also talk about how good this song is so relaxing in the beginning
This made me miss going to Mall... Even though i mostly came there for food and just follows my family around buying whatever the hell they were there for. Now i lived in a more country area, away from the city and it's modern life.
I’m just imagining myself singing this with the ghosts that reside in the mall
This reminds me of something. Almost like a nostalgic shopping experience when I was a kid in a shopping centre. The shopping centre is getting demolished this year and it makes me feel kinda sad. But this video makes me feel nostalgic.
Imagine that you were locked in a shopping center and put this song at full volume, an incredible show 💜💜😄
Scary
The bum sleeping in the mall ceiling waking up thinking he got caught:
Exactly what I was looking for
Not sure why this was recommended but I’m glad it was! 😂
just imagine you and your crush are walking through the mall on a saturday night...
then you ask your crush if they like anyone. your crush responds with nothing...
you ask them again, this time, they kiss you
That's so sweet! But the lyrics of the song don't really fit with the situation since it's about losing touch with a lover after a seemingly friendly break-up
i love this kind of place because ur all alone but u dont know if someone is actually there. if they was you'd end up chatting about the place and being friends.
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love, and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well, you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that, though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
And I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing (aah-ooh)
And I don't even need your love (ooh)
But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough (aah)
No, you didn't have to stoop so low (ooh)
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number (aah)
I guess that I don't need that, though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know)
Somebody (I used to know)
Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know)
I used to know
That I used to know
I used to know
Somebody
YES THANK YOU
The first time I heard this time I was in love with this wierd lil quirky tune. I told my best friend as we listened "Welcome to hearing the record of the year". And it won the grammy introduced to Gotye by none other than Prince!
Imagine you and your homies walking in a empty hall and this song start playing
This gives an eerie nostalgic feeling
Making the time 4:13 brought up intense flashbacks
sharpie bath
