When playing as a Samurai, I like to think my tarnished's backstory involves seeking revenge against Okina and the Inaba for slaughtering you and your clan in the Land of Reeds, and eventually tracking down Mohg to sever the connection to the formless mother, the source of the blood-crazed madness that has consumed your homeland. Taking up Moonveil, you ally with Lady Ranni to end the meddling of outer gods once and for all.
@@robertpayne6781moonveil is also created in the Land of Reeds by a master smith. You can couple moonveil with the formless invisibility spell, Haima Hammer and Haima Cannon all created by a land of reeds scholars. Seems like the Samurai had a sect to f astrologers in their lands
It's so sad they cut some of Yura's dialogue. The voice actor is simply a master. When you get invaded by the bloody finger and then Yura helps you, those lines he delivers still ring in my brain and give me chills.
It always rubbed me the wrong way when Shabriri gives his dialogue in the Mountaintops - like flesh is something to be borrowed, or taken. “I hope you can make peace with that.” No, no I actually can’t and won’t.
I actually missed Yura's questline most of my playthroughs so I didn't even get what he was talking about but once I did it I felt the same as you. Poor Yura 😭
It truly hurt me when Shabriri showed up puppeteering Yura's body. After hearing what he had to say, I drew my blade and put Yura to a proper rest. I hate Shabriri so much ;-;
Another curious detail about Eleonora is that every other Bloody finger’s player model has the Mogh Tattoo on their forehead to show their devotion to him. However, if you remove Eleonora’s helmet, she is curiously lacking it, adding to the theory that she was never fully into being a proud bloody finger like the rest… also adds to the fact she has the purifying crystal tear, maybe as a way to fight back against Mogh, or maybe saving it for if Mogh decides to double cross her at any point. She is definitely unlike the others in that aspect which makes her very interesting.
I'd guess Yura and Eleonora were partners of some kind... either in crime or in love. Funnily enough she drops the blood tear to tank Mohgs nihil, seems like both her and Yura led to his defeat, either hunting Mohgs bloody fingers or holding a key against his combat abilities
I have to wonder - given the multiple connections between blood, Mohg, and the Land of Reeds, is it possible that Mohg actually traveled there at some point prior to returning to the Mausoleum and attempting to found his Dynasty? It would explain why Okina left without talking to his followers, why Yura was having trouble keeping up with Eleonora (she left ahead of him and he was having to follow breadcrumbs to find her), and why Okina fought Mohg in the first place. It also makes sense given Mohg's abilities with teleportation magic - given his abilities to travel through puddles of blood (which he shares with his nobles), a land soaked in bloody conflict seems like a likely place to travel.

The way I see Yura's dialogue about Eleanora and slicing off the finger would be that he chose (at some point before that fight) to become a Bloody Finger himself. We know that Varré slices off our finger, and that's sort of our initiation into the cult of the Bloody Finger. We also know that Yura has dabbled in Dragon Communion, but he preaches its dangers to the Tarnished, though from his dialogue near Agheel we can infer that his relationship to Dragon Communion is one of infatuation coupled with trepidation. He's amazed by the Dragons, calling Agheel majestic, but he's also very wary of their power. He also seems to warn against partaking in Dargon Communion (if I recall correctly, someone please correct me if I'm just misremembering this). Likewise, we know from day one that he is hunting Bloody Fingers, it's in his name. Yet he loves Eleanora, and does not want her to fall victim to the blood lust. So I see him saying "But I've learned a thing or two myself, you see, I've sliced the finger off..." as meaning that he knows first hand what it's like to be seduced by the blood, and has chosen to travel down that path - but only a few meters. He isn't pursuing being a Bloody Finger, but he got himself in the door to see what it was like on the inside. He's scared of it, but he's also curious and awe-struck. His hesitation and wariness show that he is wise, choosing to tempt fate but stay on the righteous path (not giving in to the Blood all the way (similar perhaps to dragon communion). However, his willingness to dabble, but unwillingness to commit to one of these paths is very interesting to me. I'm not sure what to make of it. I don't think it makes him a coward, necessarily, because he's choosing not to commit out of wisdom about what happens to those who do, but it also feels kind of dishonorable. Whatever these choices and opinions tell us about his character might better inform *why* he was chosen by Shabriri as the latter's new vessel. Perhaps it was because he had finally lost everything, and given up - a living Yura would almost certainly abhor the idea of succumbing to the Flame of Frenzy. Maybe it was unwilling? Maybe he agreed because of his curiosity, but didn't realize how deep the rabbit hole would go. If I remember correctly, Shabriri tells the Tarnished that Yura basically let him use his body, but I don't know if we can trust him at all. And again, this is something I might be misremembering.

People need to simply realize that "the Land of Reeds" and the "eastern location" mentioned in Elden Ring and Dark Souls merely reference Sekiro. Dark Souls 1 had a Bloodborne NPC. FromSoft absolutely has an interconnected universe, even if Miyazaki tries to convince us otherwise. He they didn't all take place on the same planet, in the same universe/timeline, they wouldn't all have these references everywhere. The Moonlight Greatsword is the most obvious one. On the "middle" part, it's maybe interesting to know that China in both english and chinese is often referred to as "The middle kingdom". This is probably not what FS are hinting at tho. The Gemans/Norse did it to, calling our earth "Midgard/Miðgarðr", although that was the name for earth itself, and not one of the various German/Norse kingdoms.
my thoughts on the dialogue yura spoke is that he managed to cut off Yura's bloody finger, in the item description, unlike most fingers in the game, the bloody finger has not been cut off, so Yura cutting it off could possibly mean he tried to sever the connection between Elenora and mohg via cutting off the tainted finger. But she kept fighting him, I think she may have been truly loyal to mohg which is why she was trusted with the purifying crystal tear.
i always thought Yura cutting off his bloody finger was to keep the summoning sign active into Eleonoras world for us to invade. Given he knows were a bad ass demi-god crushing tarnished whos also his friend, we would find his body, her sign and finish his job for him. But by cutting off his finger that opened him up to being possessed by shabriri, kind of like our western version of selling our soul to a devil.
Im soo looking forward to this dlc. Especially since the Nagakiba is by far my all time favorite wepon in elden ring. Not just the fact that its made to figjt malenia for. Also the combination of speedband reafh are unmatched.
To be fair that's because they are a Japanese company, meaning they don't really touch too much on the mainland cultures. You see it a lot when stuff like Korean comics gets adapted by Japanese studios, and the first thing they want to do is change the country to japan
I mean Celestial Dew, the item to be used there is explicitly linked to the Eternal City. Like out of 15 tears only 3 are found overground. 1 in Caria Manor (also closely tied to Nokstella), 1 in Raya Lucaria (maybe a Carian Sorcerer or Albinauric left it there), 1 in Leyndell (brought back by Radagon? he has used it himself)
i wasn't ready for that badassery unfolding per 10:46 but you short-circuited a want with a need in ways i neither knew was possible nor necessary. you did that, Zayf 🚬🍄💜
Ya know, after hearing this theory and doing a playthrough of Sekiro, it really makes you wish that it had a connection to Elden Ring. I mean, Scarlot Rot and Dragon Rot are identical. Hell, I could easily believe that Sekiro trained a young Melania. It just fits so perfectly that it's a crime to see Fromsoft not connect the two games.
So the Odachi and Nodachi were katana like greatswords that was primarily used against people on horseback. They would decapitate the horse with 1 swing throwing the rider which they would charge to and kill before they were able to get up. At least in my 20+ years of studying various forms of Kenjutsu, that's what I have learned about these 2 types of swords.
In my opinion, Nodachi means great field sword, while Odachi it means big great sword... Nodachis have a Blade length around 90-110, Odachis are around beyond 110 cm, but sometimes Nodachi and Odachi can be interchangeable
Just found you, but your stories are super well done! And super interesting! Your Japanese pronunciation is phenomenal. Makes me wonder if you speak Japanese
In a land that is about 1/10 the size of New York City, the better question might be why are any of the races in the Land Between? The Land Between might be the connecting point in some way of all the other "souls" games. Be it a random island on a massive planet, or some transcendental plane accessed in a way that isn't just sailing, it seems to be a merging point between many vastly different regions with varied cultures over many years.
The sizing Is more a contrivance for gameplay. So in my head the continent is a lot bigger or at least used to be a lot bigger. Since at the moment there isn't really much space for all the people you find all over the place
What if Yura and Eleonora were two of Okina's followers and came together to the lands between to seek for their master and proper death. Eleonora fell for the Dragon communion wich gave her a power thirst that Yura saw grow more and more ovre the time. When they learned that their master fought Mogh they went to see him and Mogh offered them the same deal that he offered Okina. Driven by power lust, Eleonora took the offer while Yura, willing to keep his humanity, declined. The bloodlust erased the will of finding her master from Eleonora, only to be replaced by the will to hunt for tarnished. This could be why he knows so much about the dangers that Dragon communion comes with. He hunts for bloody finders, sawing what it did to her. And he would have to look for his companion to give her the only other thing she came to seek in the land between, a proper death.
What I don't get is whay Yuri's connection to Ymir is🤔 were they both from the Land of Reeds? Was he Ymirs son? I'm so confused after finding Yuri's tombstone at Manis Metyr

Forgot one more. Another samurai possibly. The Blue Dnacer defeated the outer god of rot and halted the Scarlett rot long ago. Samurai was my first and favorite class. @@NordicVigilante That idea for defending the cocoon against invaders is SO GOOD! They'll never do it, but it's probably cooler than anything they actually end up doing in terms of multiplayer.
Bruh, this video is so well done, thanks for the cool research and effort you put into editing :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and leave nice comments @cjson!
For me I’d like to see a eochaid dlc over reeds seems more interesting in my opinion I like the whole dancing blade stuff
Okina sounds most likely an allegory for Miyamoto Musashi, and a reason why we don't get much more info.
I agree, I mean Okina used an Rivers of Blood Katana and a short Wakizashi
Sekiro's final boss scene is in a field full of plants.
A quick google image search reveals those plants to be, infact, reeds.
This video makes me plays samurai in my new playthrough! On another topic, what is the music that you use at 10:47?
イントロが良すぎてガチ泣きそうになった😭
Your videos are incredible! Also, your japanese is insanely good 👏🏻 keep up the amazing work!
さくやまさん、ありがとうございます!日本語でのコメント嬉しいです!I don't get very many comments from other Japanese speakers so I'm stoked. Appreciate the kind words as well!
That fight sequence and music was fire 🔥 🔥 🔥
Sekiro 2 should have a crossover with Elden Ring. Something to do with the dragon rot and the land of reeds.
beautiful video.. keep up the great work
Thank you so much!
my thoughts on the dialogue yura spoke is that he managed to cut off Yura's bloody finger, in the item description, unlike most fingers in the game, the bloody finger has not been cut off, so Yura cutting it off could possibly mean he tried to sever the connection between Elenora and mohg via cutting off the tainted finger.
But she kept fighting him, I think she may have been truly loyal to mohg which is why she was trusted with the purifying crystal tear.
Honestly elden ring in general is freaken beautiful. The land of reeds would be a freaken spectacular visual treat.
great video , keep up the good work
Love the content and the voice, keep it up!
Thanks man! Very encouraging 🙏
Having a samurai build and not using the cross guard naginata is a crime
i always thought Yura cutting off his bloody finger was to keep the summoning sign active into Eleonoras world for us to invade.
Given he knows were a bad ass demi-god crushing tarnished whos also his friend, we would find his body, her sign and finish his job for him.
But by cutting off his finger that opened him up to being possessed by shabriri, kind of like our western version of selling our soul to a devil.
This is really well made
Well now i need to spend a larval tear and go full dex bleed build. Thanks.
Have fun with the elden beast lmao
@@WhyisitBEARS 6th play through shouldn't be too bad but its Elden Ring so dying or not fun shall be had haha!!
Great fight scene editing. Very Tarantino and Spaghetti Western
Thank you @stanronn!
I have no clue why but this intro made me want to make an edit of radahn with the demons souls intro music
Im soo looking forward to this dlc. Especially since the Nagakiba is by far my all time favorite wepon in elden ring. Not just the fact that its made to figjt malenia for. Also the combination of speedband reafh are unmatched.
2:14 Couldn't help but imagine somebody getting heated at getting the armor wet.
Have you noticed from software never had any other asian cultures for example chinese and Vietnamese except japanese.
To be fair that's because they are a Japanese company, meaning they don't really touch too much on the mainland cultures. You see it a lot when stuff like Korean comics gets adapted by Japanese studios, and the first thing they want to do is change the country to japan
Subbed, keep up the interesting work
Much appreciated!
W vid, W Information, and Entertaining ahh gameplay. say no less i’ll sub.
9:36 That sounds kinda like real life figure, Miyamoto Musashi
10:02 Okay. No, that IS Miyamoto Musashi (or at least inspired by him)
I totally agree with you
Anyone else notice how the statue at the center of the church of vows is a nox? Weird...
Yeah I have been thinking about that lately actually...
Sick editing and storytelling! Subscribed 🎉
land of reeds, that is clearly Ashina. Malenia's Mentor was described very similar to ishin, owner of rivers of blood was "Shura"
i wasn't ready for that badassery unfolding per 10:46 but you short-circuited a want with a need in ways i neither knew was possible nor necessary. you did that, Zayf 🚬🍄💜
Glad you enjoyed it LSP!
*The real answer:* Cause the developers thought it was cool as hell
If youd be willing to share your knowledge could you please tell me the difference between odachi and nodachi?
In my opinion, Nodachi means great field sword, while Odachi it means big great sword... Nodachis have a Blade length around 90-110, Odachis are around beyond 110 cm, but sometimes Nodachi and Odachi can be interchangeable
Thats crazy theyre adding samurai and samoodai
Love this video, subscribed
First time viewer, what a great video ❤
Just found you, but your stories are super well done! And super interesting! Your Japanese pronunciation is phenomenal. Makes me wonder if you speak Japanese
Imagine if Sekiro spawned and you had to kill him 3 times against the mortal blade 😂
I think it's over for our tarnished if Sekiro shows up 😭
In a land that is about 1/10 the size of New York City, the better question might be why are any of the races in the Land Between?
Im hoping we get some new Japanese armor types in the upcoming expansion to go with the Oadachi. Maybe also a Yumi bow.
What I don't get is whay Yuri's connection to Ymir is🤔 were they both from the Land of Reeds? Was he Ymirs son? I'm so confused after finding Yuri's tombstone at Manis Metyr
Bro gotta have that duel track between tarnished and okina for my gym playlist. That was fire. Nope sorry it was clearly nuclear power in that tract
I liked what I saw, tho I could only catch the bits related to samurai.
I'm working on something related to this, hope to get it done before dlc launch, but there's so much more...
I used to think that these samurai were isekaid from Sekiro's world
Pointing out that the Samurai class is explicitly Japanese is kinda like pointing out that Europeans had Knights. That said, overall really well laid out thoughts.
Forgot one more. Another samurai possibly. The Blue Dnacer defeated the outer god of rot and halted the Scarlett rot long ago. Samurai was my first and favorite class. I have a dragon communication ancient dragon lightning samurai build set for the DLC.
I also have a blood samurai that in my head canon is here for revenge against the Formless Mother who most likely has dominon over the Land of Reeds like the Greater Will has over the Lands Between.
Ive always wanted to know no more bout the other areas of the souls game that we only hear of but never see
I do have to say this Okina fights better then most players I run into online. And he's only running on an ai.
you're probably not going to see the land of reeds; the best bet is probably of seeing it is sekiro.
Yeah, you're probably right...I really hope we get a Sekiro sequel at some point!
half a video in, yeah he got me. i'm subbing. lol
The land of reeds is connecting sekiro with elden ring and the souls series in general
I think mohg and his dynasty weren't a bad thing, since ansbach is a really good guy! I think after miquella basically took over mohg, the dynasty fell out of grace and became what we see now.
The editing in the video had no right going so hard... especially during that duel with Okina.
Aw appreciate the kind words @c-master109!
Love the intro
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment @TheSpectralForce! Looking at the comments it seems like it's a love it or hate it situation 😅
wtf is the music playing at the start? I want it on my playlist lol
Lol super creative editing
Thanks @d.robinson6262! Lol
Need the track from min.11
An you make one for the Hero class, they’re my favorite.
Watching your channel's progress with great interest. I'm liking what I see a lot. I never knew there was so much depth to Yura, but I respected him from the first time I saw him.
One thing, if you don't mind criticism: I think we could do without the minute-long intro. Also the rapidly flashing light cuts were not pleasant to look at, at least for me. Other than that, your videos are really high quality, even better than some big mainstream channels. Keep it up :)
I appreciate the feedback @deutschesinferno3078! Tried out some new stuff with this one so its great to hear your thoughts.
