My dad passed away a few weeks ago and I have great memories of riding in his truck that was like this one when I was little. It was a green color and he used to always go up these hills near our house because I enjoyed that so much. I can't wait to see this truck you're working on all fixed up. I have really enjoyed your videos. Keep up the great work.
Just as a suggestion you can pretty easily convert it from the ram assist style steering to the later style steering setup. Love these old Fords, thank you for rescuing this one!
This reminds me of my late grandfathers old truck. It was a 79 f250 that same baby blue as the cab on this one. It had the 351M with 4 speed and 4x4. He always claimed that newer trucks were getting too comfy and his 79 ford was when they still built trucks lol.. He had trucks after that, but the 79 was always our favorite and will always be "Grandpa's truck". Us kids rode in it with him while pulling the camper to our yearly camping trip with the grandparents and cousins. I still smell his cigars and pipe tobacco smoke. Some people just don't understand the connection us car enthusiasts make with these vehicles. Its like a song that takes you back to a better time and place. I miss that man and that truck.
I want to get a long bed crew cab version of an old Ford F-250 or Ford F-350 (the non-dually versions) and turn it into a one of a kind super luxury SUV.
I’d love to see a cheap “resto” to show some of us we don’t need Sema quality work to have a great rig! Here are my suggestions: Fresh tires Fix power steering Alternator Fix 4x4 yoke Minor bodywork (fix hole in roof and spritz with some Turbo cans) Retrofit some non-moldy seats Big ass bumper! Winch? Shazam, badass offroad rig! Make it the Mcool Recov Rig!
Right after high school (graduated in may of 1980) my best friend bought a new 1980 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 300 six cylinder and four speed bulldog transmission. We took that thing in places the majority of people wouldn’t believe. With a lot of parts and work you can turn that old rig into something that will go almost anywhere you point it. I really enjoyed this episode!
You are one the bravest off roaders I ever saw. Time bomb tires, low fuel, shitty alternator, part time power steering and degrading engine performance. You got it done 👍🏻
I love this truck. A word of advice, though, speaking from experience, when you were backing up and looking around, your hand was out the window a bit and I've done that to the extent of nearly breaking my hand when the truck slid into a tree. Thanks for the video.
That truck is a great platform for a trail rig. Dont give up on it yet. Dont waste your time on the front drum brakes or factory ram assist power steering. Swap both out for late 70's components. Slap a cheap spool in the rear axle for a huge boost in traction. That transfer case looks to be a 208-not original but not a terrible case either. Not as syrong as a 205, but much lower low range. I am a lifelong Ford wheeler so let me know if you need assistance with it.
I drove a truck exactly like this with unmatching colored panels on it for a few years. It had a 460 Big block it was a factory high boy. It had a motor knock in it from the day I bought it. I drove it for 2 years this way. It never left me stranded it never got stuck it went through every mud hole and crushed everything I ever ran over. I truly miss this old beater amd parking it next to the brand new truck in parking lot. It sure is a special thing driving a paid for truck that you know you can beat on with zero remorse. I will never underestimate an old ugly Ford because I have experience with them.
I was one of the few to have the honor of seeing the green charger in person the day you got it and this truck is still my favorite out of what you own I know it would take alot in time and money but I personally would blow it apart and build it right nice paint and all keep up the good work
Hi Dylan. With a little work, that truck would be a pretty capable off road rig. Definitely would like to see whatever progress you make on it. Thanks for the video!
Love this old truck, hope to see a lot more videos about it. It is in about the same condition as my 65' Land Cruiser,,, well, mine has a blown engine, but the rest is about the same.
36 and had a 1964 jeep pickup that was a jalopy like this about 10 years ago. Used to coax her into living to drive out of gary indiana to my moms house 2 hours away every 6 weeks or so when I wasn't in the semi. Seeing your "oh god please run" face made me smile.
My sides hurt! You don't know how much fun I'm having watching you struggle with not ranting about Fords 🤣Then you notice that repair loop in the front line, heck yea! Then you strip a fitting, and lock up the ps pump, but look at that adjustment! It's a love/hate thing, man, plus FIRE! and a tiny fire extinguisher for 3 counties of dry leaves, FORD! I love 'em. Love your channel, too, thx!
That rig got you through a little trail sesh after sitting since Clinton was in office with just basic work. I'd say it's worthy of a few parts to live again (and upgrade that power steering set up).
Dude that trucks a beast. Way more capable of offroading that your willing to take. It's a tank. Put a good carb on it adjusted right and put a timing light on it and that thing will drag anything you got on the property..
As beat up of an hodgepodge Ford truck as it is, I absolutely love it! I get a feeling that it wants to live again, but also wants some love and attention. Also, it kinda reminds me of Bob Chandler's first iteration of BigFoot!!! In keeping with the cheap nature of that truck, I'd get some bright blue paint, throw in some metal shavings in, and give it a couple of licks of paint to mimick BigFoot's metallic blue paint!!!
Back in the early 80s my buddy had a 79 F150 4x4, 6" lift, 44" ground hog mudders, 351, 4:10 gears and positraction in both axles and a 4 spd. Also had the roll bar in the bed. If that truck could go through it nothing would. It was dark green metallic. Your video brings back some pretty crazy memories. Nice job!!!
I think this rig could be a bunch of fun. You could take her out in the woods or muddin' and you don't have to worry about scratches. 4WD and a little more reliability and you got it!
I think I like this old truck as much as just about all the commenters. But I really do believe, just because it sat neglected and unloved for such a long time, that it's going to take a lot of hard work and tlc to get it to where it's dependable.
Good to see it out on trail . I've seen Mortske have some fires but I think you beat him that was quite a fireball like to channel keep up the good work
All things considered the ol ferd did ok! That fireball was epic, nearly caught the tree's on 🔥! The creepy woods is givin off an evil dead vibe...just pull up to an old cabin and your set!!! Gretta Thunberg must be screamin....HOW DARE U!!!!! Fun times Dylan!
I saw that on yours, the power steering pump is driven directly from the crank. On some of the later 70s Fords, the water pump and power steering are driven from the same belt. So, replacing the power steering is kinda necessary in those cases unless you get a shorter belt. I hope you do more 4-wheel drive vehicles in the futures. Yes, please do more to that truck, it has a lot of potential. Even if it never leaves your property, it looks like it would be a lot of fun on the trails you have.
Wont lie I have fallen in love with this truck. That yellow hood should tell you where u need to go. 119 dollar yellow paint job for that beast. I'd love a chance at making that truck my own. Had a 78 f 150 when I was a kid and man that truck showed me the world
Love how these old Fords sound just so beastly and rowdy these old Ford sure are one of the best body styles to put big massive tires on for offroading makes them look so mean @Dylan McCool
Brings back memories of my midsize 76 Ford lifted 390 435 new process 4-speed and 205 transfer case Dana Dana 44 front and a 9-inch rear end, wish I could go back in time and get that truck back !!!! Late teenager had nowhere else to live had to sell it!!! Lived in the back of an 83 Isuzu diesel in 96 in wasilla Alaska.
Need more of this old girl. Deserves another chance at the trails with brakes , charging system , power steering and 4 wheel drive. Maybe a tune up and carb swap. Just a trail rig. No body work just a hood repair or find a way to put the bump side hood on it.
Dylan, God's blessings and peace upon you and the family. I say this playfully...those woods wanted to consume the ole girl. She fought back with fire and power. LOL! It was an epic video with lotsa smiles and fun. TY for all your hard work!
Dylan this vid reminded me of the first time I went wheeling in the first truck I ever bought, an 80 k10 with the 250 i6. Was before I was as knowledgeable as I am now and carb loaded up and couldn't figure out how to get it cranked again. Ended up sitting in the woods for 2 hours till the truck cooled off enough for it to start again and hauled out. Would love to see the Ford hit a mudbog in a future video, keep it up brother.
I love these 74-79 fords. I had a 79 f150 with a 460 5 speed in it, sitting on 40’s. It was the best truck I ever owned. Wish I’d never of sold it now.
The fireball that shot out even surprised me. I tracked definitely needs more attention Dylan. I was a nice leisurely stroll through the woods, keep up the good work and the cool videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
With some love, that truck would be a beast. It's had a hard life and has been very neglected but it definitely deserves some attention. Especially since it's a straight axle short bed dentside.
I would absolutely love to see more on this truck it reminds of my uncles 1977 ford f100 with a built 460 it was a mud truck it has a set of turbine wheels on it there just cool old trucks.
I'm working on the international space station and was wandering what was that gigantic flash I seen on your property that I seen from up here out our window.
Although I totally understand that bringing this beast of a pickup truck fully to its former glory sounds like an expensive fool's errand, still I'll bet ya that this is exactly what most of us want and think. Thanks, Dylan, for bringing her back to live for us, please consider fixing her more ;)
Wow Brother! That was getting REALLY hairy out there, that was a one of a kind video with this kind of stuff the way you nursed it back to the shop!. Very good!
That track didn't look like you needed 4x4 that Ford went through there without it 😅🤣looks like fun though, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
With power steering you can loop the two hoses to the pump together and use the steering a lot easier, they use power steering boxes and racks without the pump for Dirt Circuit racing, great save, you'll get at least two rips down the road, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Use to have a 78 and a 79. One was a 400m with c6 and the other was a 460 4-speed truck. Wish I hadn’t ever gotten rid of them. Maybe I need to keep my eyes out for another to fix up.
She was saying 'no' when you got to the trail head. But she got you back home (under protest). I vote that she deserves a second lease on life. Keep it going, do something more with it. I would go for sorting out a new alt, then maybe a new front drive shaft? Then she would be more usable but then only with some standard issues to fix, like not wanting to stay running, etc. But there is some fun potential there, so I think she needs her time to shine.
Love to see more on this truck. Feel like just a handful of fixes could make it even more fun. Can't help but feel that the timing could be the cause of the backfire and fireball.
Excellent video Dylan :) reminds of old farmer from my area had 1984 Ford F350, 351 V8 4 barrel carb, Daul exhaust, with Manual transmission think 5 speed & 4×4 with tires like this one and amazing too! His was Black body and interior to !
Years ago I had a 75 For that the power steering was a issue as well. If you used power steering fluid it leaks out about as fast as you poured it in. But using brake fluid kept you having having power steering for a few days.
40:50 to 41:20 insert "Dumb Ways To Die" I wasn't expecting that like holy hell. Luckily it wasn't worse than that. Keep up the great work Dylan hope to see more videos soon
Dylan it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. I pray God's many blessings. I see this as your Ministery. You reach out and touch so many lives. Praise God. One side note can you PLEASE fix the exhaust . it sounds awful but I do love the truck. My uncle was nuts about those year fords before he passed away. Lots of great memories. Thank you.
I'd love to see more of this truck! Maybe just the basics like brakes, power steering, charging, and not stalling or requiring starting fluid.
2nd that
I can only give one like on this comment. It deserves a 📌
New tires too
tend to agree with you there i would like to see it done up a bit more
Find the correct front clip also. The one on the truck is from a 78 or 79 model.
My dad passed away a few weeks ago and I have great memories of riding in his truck that was like this one when I was little. Id love to see more of this truck
I agree like to see you do more to it,I didn't know that Ford made a 360 big block so that makes it more cool about this truck for me
I’d love to see a cheap “resto” to show some of us we don’t need Sema quality work to have a great rig!
Here are my suggestions:
Fresh tires
Fix power steering
Alternator
Fix 4x4 yoke
Minor bodywork (fix hole in roof and spritz with some Turbo cans)
Retrofit some non-moldy seats
Big ass bumper!
Winch?
Shazam, badass offroad rig!
Make it the Mcool Recov Rig!
i love seeing guys reviving these old gems
This beast deserves some TLC! Even just enough to keep it going as an off road truck.
Great video as always Dylan.
Cheers Pat
That poor old 360 is tired but I think with a little bit of work you’ll see why so many people love the 70s ford trucks
Right after high school (graduated in may of 1980) my best friend bought a new 1980 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 300 six cylinder and four speed bulldog transmission. I live in Alaska the Ford's and the almighty 300 straight 6 ran under water at Jim Creek best inline 6!

Thanks for not scratching what's left of the paint.
Love to see this truck get a complete going over. She's got loads of potential.
It's a he.
That truck is way more solid than anything we have up here in the rusty rusty north east lol
36 and had a 1964 jeep pickup that was a jalopy like this about 10 years ago. Used to coax her into living to drive out of gary indiana to my moms house 2 hours away every 6 weeks or so when I wasn't in the semi. Seeing your "oh god please run" face made me smile.
That fireball was unreal, never saw nothing like that! And towards the end when you were ghost riding the whip 😂
Cosmetically this truck is absolutely PERFECT!
I have anxiously waited for this episode!
Edit: please continue this build, I think this truck has great potential.
My sides hurt! You don't know how much fun I'm having watching you struggle with not ranting about Fords 🤣Then you notice that repair loop in the front line, heck yea! Please! Keep this series going. Make a whole series of taking a truck like this and making it a reasonable driver and trail rig. This is awesome.
That rig got you through a little trail sesh after sitting since Clinton was in office with just basic work. I'd say it's worthy of a few parts to live again (and upgrade that power steering set up).

Please, more videos of the BEAST! I love this truck! We got abandoned vehicles like this all over the Koots/Kaslo! What a Dragon!

I love this… you’re living my dream of finding old clunkers and playing with them!!!
LMFAO Listening to that bad boy run made me wonder which end the cement comes out🤣
Wow this truck is very cool. I can't wait to see what you get in the future. This is a very very awesome truck.
Brings back memories of my midsize 76 Ford lifted 390 435 new process 4-speed and 205 transfer case Dana Dana 44 front and a 9-inch rear end, wish I could go back in time and get that truck back !!!! this is a great build....am really enjoying it
This truck could be an awesome farm beater, keep at it...I love it! 😁
Wow, what a "giveaway truck" can't wait to buy raffle tickets for it ! Dylan, you're the best !!
A couple times, I thought "that's it. It done". But fired back up. I rebuilt my 302 and if given the chance, I'd rebuild that engine too.
Dylan, God's blessings and peace upon you and the family. I say this playfully...those woods wanted to consume the ole girl. She fought back with fire and power. LOL! It was an epic video with lotsa smiles and fun. TY for all your hard work!
Love that old truck, I wish it was mine. Please fix it up and make some more cool videos with it.
Dylan this vid reminded me of the first time I went wheeling in the first truck I ever bought, an 80 k10 with the 250 i6. You had me and my wife in stitches laughing. I know you were just testing it. But it was cool 😎. Keep up the great work
I DEFINITELY WANT TO SEE MORE OF THIS TRUCK!!! PLEASE DYLAN!!
I'd love to see more of this beast. Good thing is there's plenty of parts trucks and used parts everywhere and tons of aftermarket.
All for it! Cheap Bigfoot. Fix a few things and use it for a woods rig or something to pull around the vehicle's laying around
you gotta fix the steering and put a front driveshaft in. you will have a blast with this truck
That fireball was awesome! 🤣 Keep at it Dylan.
Definitely wanna see more of this truck. Gotta love seeing an old truck brought back to life!!!
Please please please put more into this truck let it be the canvas for this platform!!!! This truck is McCool to the core!!!!
With some love, that truck would be a beast. It's had a hard life and has been very neglected but it definitely deserves some attention. Especially since it's a straight axle short bed dentside.
Reminds me of Chickamauga. Same foliage. Lucky for you there was no mud.
Man, this truck is awesome 👌
Cool truck. Keep working on it. Thanks for the good entertainment
When the tree branch smacked you in the mouth I felt that lol.
I love this truck! We want to see more! Get it running right, brakes, tires, power steering, and let's go wheeling!!!
That mold and moss on that seat is driving me crazy!...Excellent video, tuff truck.
Looks like your driving to the cabin from Evil Dead.
I could easily watch a whole series on fixin this one up.
I'm in love with this truck. Please make it road worthy and reliable ❤.
Would love to see it all done over like new again I love these old ford trucks 👍
@DylanMcCool1 hey what’s up
Please show more man. I’m inspired!!!! I cant wait to see more on this rig
its like a post apocalypse scenery with a dying old car.. Robert Rodriguez movie maybe hahha.. keep it uppp :)
Loved it ,I truly believe you had a blast by the look on your face ,great video look forward to more of the old Ford
Very fun to watch! Would really love to see more of this truck!
That's a cool old truck, maybe do some mudding in it as well 🤙🏻
Use to have a 78 and a 79. One was a 400m with c6 and the other was a 460 4-speed truck. Wish I hadn’t ever gotten rid of them. Maybe I need to keep my eyes out for another to fix up.
Great video. I'm glad you posted. Keep them coming, thanks
I love that truck you should seriously check into getting a front drive shaft and fix the power steering
Would love to see more of this old Ford!
So Cool Jed! Happy 😊 for you and the family!
Good video content on the future changes of the barn and other buildings!
best part is i had one in my late teens loved it with the 20 miles of play in the steering wheel lol
Love to see you fix it up a little more, that truck is so cool
40:50 to 41:20 insert "Dumb Ways To Die" I wasn't expecting that like holy hell. Luckily it wasn't worse than that. Keep up the great work Dylan hope to see more videos soon
It’s cool seeing you work with a Ford! I always thought those were sharp! We have an ‘80 F350 that id like to get running soon!
Always want to see more Ford from a Mopar Maniac. Love the video Dylan and still have a Ford steering wheel (used) from my 68 F250 if you want it.
Thank you.
I really dig the truck, but man talk about not being prepared Dylan your nuts 😂
fun little big truck and that surprise in the middle there glad you are okay
