  • On this day we make our way to the Binh Tay Market in Saigon, Vietnam where they had tons of shopping and some fun Vietnamese snacks, drinks and more. Chase found a new treasure that he plans to wear all around the country. It wouldn’t by be a proper video without indulging in some food so we had to try the most popular Vietnamese dessert and obviously end with a coffee!

    Loved the video. I cannot wait to go Vietnam next month. The first drink you had, the yellow thing is mung bean paste. I am glad you liked it. The 2nd drink is a herbal artichoke grass jelly with basil seed. The basil seed is very similar to chia seeds. Finally the dehydrated fruits and veggies. I love those. I get them here in the states and they are imported from Vietnam. The beets and okras are my favorite. Thank for sharing your adventure with us. Chase is always so positive with his laughs and Shelby is adventurous and optimistic with the food. Keep up with the amazing contents.

    When you ask if “Chè” has coconut in it, the lady thought you ask for “dứa”, not “dừa” (which means coconut), that’s why she points at the green jelly because that jelly was made from a kind of leaf called “dứa” 🤣 but most of Chè in Vietnam have coconut cream in them, so don’t worry 😂

    • @KatieN77
      @KatieN77 5 місяців тому

      Yes, the lady thought you meant "dứa", which is pandan, a green leaf that gives a flavour and fragrance similar to vanilla, but with a slightly different taste. I agree with @kimqui9083 that they usually have coconut milk/cream in "chè".
      The dark drink Chase bought looks like Chè Sâm Bổ Lượng, which is a healthy and refreshing dessert drink. Usually, but not always, comes with seaweed, barley, lotus seeds, and a variety of dried fruits, such as jujubes, gogi berries, and longan.
      Also the red jelly looking thing with the white in the centre is water chestnut that's been immersed in a jelly, then they cut it up to mimic pomegranate seeds. This is what they call it hạt lựu, meaning pomegranate seed.

    Everyone explained most of everything, I just want to add.....The first desert with the red jelly, that water chestnut coated with coloured flour.....the second drink is the Chinese desert-drink , the black strings are seaweed, this drink is meant to cool down the body, especially if you ate greasy food and had pimples.
    Most places shut down during noon from 12pm to 2pm for siesta, avoiding the stream heat, so the food area probably went to sleep LOL

    Hey guys, I think you should know that the letter d in Vietnamese is pronounced as a "y" like in "yoyo". It's only pronounced like a normal English d when you see it written with a line across the top that looks like this > đ. This is so you're not confused why locals might not understand what you mean if you're trying to say coconut in the future. 😊
