I got one of the last 2023 X5 45e as soon as I saw the specs for the 2024 50e. With slightly less power from the electric motor, I got to keep the manual controls including the split screen set up and the classic gear selector which I like better. For the EV range, I have already passed 55miles/ charge sometimes. Though this heavy and large, the X5 can easily pass 3m/kwh with adaptive coasting/ regen. I have only 1400 miles in hybrid mode out of 7k miles on my odometer now, rest of it on pure EV. The best thing was the price, even with upgrades including premium seats and 360 camera packages, I managed a $59K cost for 2023 after a 7.5K tax rebate and 7K over market value for my older BMW X1 trade-in.
I did the same, picked the last stock available (carbon-black M Sport packegae wit premium package), got 6K doscount. I bought on April 29, 2023. I think i will not be eligible for tax rebate, can some one confirm?
I thought I would hate missing the tactile button but after a month owning the 50e I’m used to it already. Granted I still feel touchscreen are more dangerous to operate while driving but I guess that’s the way car manufacturers think the future is. Also the learning curve is high for Idrive 8.5. Def confusing for technology challenged people.
Great review! Why does it bother me so much when people hold the starter button? Just push it and move on, not like your providing a current to the starter like an old key
Hey great channel guys! Very comprehensive review! I just bought my x5 50e here in switzerland and I actually used your review to make my mind up to not wait for the macan ev 😊
Thanks for the review guys. Have a 24 X5 50e being built soon for delivery as a custom order. Looking forward to it! Coming out of many EVs (Rivian, Hummer, Teslas) and this is going to be nice to get back to more luxury/ICE at times.
As soon as I started this video I skipped right to your sound measurements, then posted a comment asking what the state of IconicSounds was during the test. Then I went back and watched from the beginning and found that I had just missed your saying that IconicSounds was in the default state of "on". Perhaps sometime you'll get an opportunity to test it with IconicSounds turned off. People who really care about a quiet car would probably keep it in that state.
Nah, iDrive 8.5 added climate to the screen that is similar to old buttons, but you won't really miss them in the X5. It has a great auto functionality, with fan speed, and passenger climate rules/preferences that really just let you set a temp and not worry about it.
The 50e battery takes up the space for a spare tire so it has run flat tires. That one of the reasons for the increased noise vs the 40 which has non run flats.
I am going to replace my run flats when i hit 30k miles with reglular tires. Did that on my last 3 series and the drive was so much better. My X50e has air suspension and is really comfortable now, so i can't wait to feel the ride without run flats in this...
What I love about Bmw, it gives you so much confidence in front of the wheel and you don’t feel those bumps in your wheel it gives you absolute comfort big difference between Tesla and BMW
Please do a comparison between the x5 50e and Cayenne E Hybrid. Both 3.0 big battery hybrids. Does the Porsche Cayenne warrant the 20% extra $ or is it just brand tax?
I drove the BMW X5 50e, Not M model, over the Thanksgiving weekend and really liked it. Not a fan of the sun reflecting on my eyes at certain times of the day, from the shiny surfaces on the dashboard, all the way from the passenger side. I noticed some issues with the charger and the Bluetooth applications. Overall a nice car for about $84K.
Enjoyed the video, well done. And, being in Lexington, KY at Don Jacobs…Kudos. I live there and have the iX 50 from Don Jacobs, and it’s a fabulous EV. I’m ready to order the X5 50e as I’m sometimes driving to NC mountains these days, out in areas that charging is not abundant, so the Plug in Hybrid seems the way to go. Working with Don Jacobs now. However, I would miss the fabulous iX 50 EV.
My 2024 X5 50e is in the “quality check” phase now at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, SC (15 miles from me!). Hopefully will take delivery in a week or two. Have it fully loaded with all options except the “self-driving” option - I want to drive the car, myself! :)
@@charleshyatt7312 That was not a smart move. My x50e has the full self driving and it is amazing. I set it the other day on the highway and it drove me for 2 hours just sitting there listening to music, and it did it in heavy traffic with huge curves dead center in the lane. It also lets you take over as soon as you touch the wheel and when you let go it goes right back to full self driving. It's not an either or, and on long long road trips it's a must or if you are tires, drank too much etc
Hey guys, thanks for reviewing this vehicle - it's on my wish list. Did you have any issue with glare &/or reflections off the MID (gauge cluster)? This is a big concern for me, since on most vehicles, there is cowling around the MID to make it more legible in all kinds of weather. Thank a lot. Great review as usual.
None whatsoever. As you know, we have a BMW with the same screen arrangement and it doesn't give us any trouble. The brightness and coating they have on it make it to where you don't get many glares on it. Hope that helps!

@@KeeptendvirBecause the current public EV charging infrastructure is hopeless to put it generously. This is particularly a problem if you live in an apartment (most people do these days) and don’t have the opportunities to charge at home.
I love my 2021 BMW and was thinking about a 2024e but since they have removed a lot of the buttons, I am having second thoughts. What a shame that they removed these and you now have to access them on the screen. Taking this into account, I probably won't buy one unless they change back to these buttons down the road.
I have both. The new X5 50e and a `23 850 GC. They both work fine. You get used to it quickly. Only thing I`m missing are the shortcut buttons. Ohter than that, they are both fine.
Is BMW going to upgrade the EV range on the X5 like they did with the new 330e in Europe for 2025? If they can get 60 miles from a 330e...I would hope they can do similar in the X5 50e......thoughts?
Thank you for reviewing the X5e!!! Why so many reviewers skip comparisons to Audi Q7? I’m cross shopping and have Q7 due to bigger back seats and truck space in 2 row config. But looking forward to X5e being the next ride, knowingly giving up adjustable backseat angle and some knee/car seat room. X7 is just too big and bulky.
I too was surprised at your sound level test result - I'm guessing this M model has wider tires (and perhaps different tires) than the base 40i? That could easily make the difference.
I'd prefer physical buttons, but I have one, and the virtual buttons really aren't too bad in practice - I don't even think about it any more. It's a very nice car overall.
Since the braking is largely performed by reversing the electric motors, the M calipers (while beautiful) are unnecessary, no? Our 4xe has 15k on it and it doesn't look like the pads have ever made contact w/ the rotors.
Great review on a low-spec car!! I actually think this was one of your best reviews. somehow, you made a basically stripped car seem still exciting. And I loved the pants!! 😜
If you are in sport or sport plus, will this run the engine the whole time or will it still start out in electric until it needs the engine? Just curious if you don’t care about economy and just want to have some fun. Thanks for the great review.
I was initially interested, but researching it looks like the 50e has some serious issues. I'm ordering the 40i in carbon black, that gray is a horrible color, we used to call that primer.

If I was in the market for a German SUV, I’d go Porsche Cayenne.. better driving dynamics and screens that are integrated, with PHYSICAL buttons!

Test drove a model x in Sept 2023 and still bought the x5 50e. Deal breaker for me was the hard seats on the model x likely from the cooling seats as model y/3 felt fine when I test drove. The X5 over the Tesla S/X is superior in luxury tech and build quality, by far. My Tesla was so crappy in rattles/cracking (2022 model), and previous X was even worse quality, heck the driver seat came unbolted on the first drive home, the seals don't last, etc. On top of that Tesla Vision for parking/proximity, etc. is bad, flat out bad as they remove radar, ultrasonics, and more...
