    Lots of companies make 50 Beowulf uppers, but I think they're not allowed to call it that. Its always The 12.7x42mm that's 50 Beowulf though

      @juarezderrick9647 I think that was what kept 50 Beowulf from being chambered in bolt action rifles for straight wall states. It would have been the "king" of straight wall rounds, instead its no different then 458 socom. I remember when that rule change happened in Ohio, at the time both 450 bushmaster and 50 Beowulf were only chambered in AR 15 rifles. Now every gun company has a bolt action or single shot 450 bushmaster.

    • @brandiwynter
      @brandiwynter 9 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, that's what I was going to say. It lost the popularity war because of that but it's still an awesome cartridge. I love mine.

      @brandiwynter I've thought about buying a 50 beowulf upper, but there are so many bolt action 450bm rifles I could get. And I already reload 450bm. So I think 50 beowulf will kinda die out for that reason.

      @@kevinfidler8074except it takes a really long time for cartridges to die.
      And Starline will always make brass. So I’m not worried about it.

    I've now owned mine for years and hundreds of rounds (Hornady XTP 350 grain) which I load myself. Don't be daunted by recoil commentary. The recoil is exactly the same as a 12 gauge over/under shotgun. The muzzle blast is extraordinary. The compression from the muzzle blast is extraordinary (and yes, use a muzzle brake). The down-range effect is extraordinary. NOW ... its drawback is the point-of-aim versus point-of-impact (bullet drop). At 100 yards you can absolutely drive tacks. At 200 yards (with a 100 yard zero) the bullet drop is 11.5 inches with my ammunition. The good news ... it's 11.5" every single time. Whatever you hit ... it's on the ground and won't be getting up (short of a Cape Buffalo).

      I apologize for the response to a very long ago post. I was just reminiscing. I actually was one of the 1st to “test” this actual platform in combat “Kuwait 91’ ODS”. I HAD to have one for civilian life. (Even though Uncle Sugar passed on them). I found the max lethal penetration was no more than 150yrds out!!
      Anyway, this round was an absolute BEAST (its actual military nickname). I fired so many different types of rounds (250-500 gr). Including prototype AP, APHE etc.
      1st no matter what round you prefer a “tank” compensator is mandatory. Even with hearing protection I STILL was getting chewed up ringing BUT the “effect” was incredible!! Oh anyone within 10ft around me would also be ringing!!
      2nd after maybe 3 (5) round mags the “targets” were starting to freak out, run, back up etc.. “techs” were no problem stopping anything that came in range with 1-3 shots to the hood and with the recoil (advantageously) rising up made follow up rounds perfectly placed!! NO “target” regardless where hit made it!!
      Lastly.. on reloads and years of tweaking I settled on the 350gr XTP solid core and was able to get it to 2500ish fsp. But the OTC rounds work just as well.
      This round is NASTY!! It just didn’t have the distance needed.. for civilian life I’d take this platform over anything out there as no needed shot in real life will exceed 50-100yds.
      Great video!!

    I bought a Radical 12.7x42mm upper and built out a lower for it a long long time ago. I call it a giggle gun, because after you shoot it, you can't help but giggle like a kid. It kicks like a 12ga and fire balls like a flame thrower. Expensive to plink with at first but i reload so that helps. The lack of good load data made that interesting. But I have loads from with 300gr FTXs to 350gr hollow points and 500gr XTPs, also some factory 385gr solid brass HPs.
    I haven't taken her out to the range in a while, it usually just breaks everything you point it at, so like to target large rocks on the berms. It turns them into dust.

There's a video on you tube where he takes 3 guns to Ted Nugent's ranch and they shoot em up, a 50, a 458, and a 450. Mine came in a hard case and is a black and silver beauty. Cost me $900 shipped. Thanks for the video.
    The answer to the original question is that the .50 Beowulf is not a good caliber for self-defense against people because the bullet is going to over-penetrate so severely that it will create downrange risks.
    I didn't know that this caliber was developed for stopping vehicles, but I've always thought of this caliber as one for stopping large animals. If one is going into bear or moose country and needs a stopper against aggressive examples of either species, this kind of firearm would be a pretty good choice.

    • @VroomNBoom

      Yeah the 50 beowulf was designed to penetrate and hit vital components in an engine block and also to penetrate through the whole cab,persons,seats and exit out the tailgate of a truck at military check points (you might be able to find the future weapons clip of it on UA-cam) ... And depends on where you live if your worried about over penetration if you live in the country it's probably fine however if you live in an apartment building probably would stick with a standard ar chambering or handgun

    I had been told when it first came out that it was called the door knocker and was intended for the entry guy to use instead of a shotgun since it could not just do the same job, but gave him enough extra shots to deal with anyone waiting on the other side in addition to being able to penetrate furniture and other semi-hard cover.

      @beenschmokin 8 місяців тому

      Velocity determines penetration when other variables are equal. Larger calibers typically penetrate less. 45ACP much less than 9mm. These big bore guns are very slow and don't penetrate steel worth a crap. Short of Lehigh Defense solid copper penetrator. which still goes through much less than say a tiny little 7mm Magnum FMJ.

    we will need something to fight drones and androids, the fast ones will require something with high rate of fire /like 5-6 round bursts of the P90/ and for the slower moving tough ones something like this, or even tougher but more portable with a moderate operational kickbacks like the antimaterial rifles /.50 cal berret/ ....

    Very odd question for ya.
    Are the fake bone fragments plastic or something biodegradable ?
    If the gel get moldy I can see it deteriorating over time but lets jump a head in time and a few land owners down the road. Finding bone type fragments everywhere in that area might turn into something interesting.
