Something about the snare bed cut. It really decides the crisp sensitivety. Try a ludwig old brass, press strokes near the rim. Then do same to gretch. Different sound.
My first teacher had a 14x5 Jasper shell snare from the 70s that was very sensitive and sounded great. He put 40-strand wires on it though. Not sure if he had the beds done. For more recent snares, I actually really like this one and the Brooklyn 12x6 steel, and they're among the cheapest snares Gretsch makes. I wish Stanton had played some press rolls so we could get a better idea though, and I think maybe a coated Ambassador batter head would sound a bit better. But yeah, I'd kill to get my hands on a 1920s Ludwig in good condition. It doesn't even have to be a Deluxe/BB, just a Universal would do.

Would've been nice to hear the low tuning without the BFSD. Sometimes that really changes the character of the drum altogether.
Short and sweet!

That mid tuning is pure tone...
High Tuning was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would definitely stick to the high tuning, sounds great 🤗
I have mine cranked up with an Evans G 12 coated, perfect for James Brown style funk.

Oh word, that's why I'm looking at this thing.
The mid tuneing is nice Stanton… or maybe in between the high and the middle tuning. Thanks man

Can you shoot this again with out the Giant muffler on top? Not the obvious low tuning piece , the high and mid.
Mid-tuning for the win.

What is the make/model of that clip on muffler?
Shines at Mid tuning , like most of their snare drums.

Quite inexpensive for a great sounding Gretsch snare..
Been playing gretch for 45 years. Why they can not get there snaredrums right. I studyed with Tony and even his snare was funny. No buss sensitivety.
I have loved all of my Gretsch snare drums. Not sure why some say they can't make snare drums right.

This guy could play a dead cat and would still sound good. 🐈⬛
