Wow … you have such beautiful collections of journals!! Who said a junk journal has to be something one can write on?? The small journals about the pig, rabbit are just adorable and gives me an idea of what I can do as I get immersed further into the “Junk Journal World”.😂😂. There’s no going back … I’m addicted!!😮😮😮😮 Thank you for your inspiring video Tina!❤❤❤❤
I'm glad you said the word "collage" Ive been intrigued by junk journaling. I keep hearing that "there are no rules" and that hasn't helped. My brain needs some kind of purpose or I'll be too lost to start something. If im told that it's a collage to help me express my creativity, then i "get it" and can start But then i get intimidated by secret, fancy terns like "signatures"
You do beautiful work! I don't "junk journal" but I use the same techniques in making story books. A story book is a book in which there is a story (duh) and the story has graphics to support it. The first story book I created was a diary of a young girl graduating from high school in 1918. She narrated events in her life from the graduation until Armistice of 1918. She wrote of friends, potential boyfriends, how World War I impacted her life and the lives of the people in her town as well as the Spanish flu. It was my first real attempt at making what my interpretation of a junk journal was. Of all the books that have followed, the 1918 diary is my favorite. I just got through working on a book about a young man who was born in the tenements of New York City at the turn of the last century. It was the most story intensive of anything I've created so far. Looking at the journals you have created, I am envious of your gift for interesting and unique design. You craft each page as an individual entity rather than a mass making project. And, in the books you flipped through, I could tell you give thought to being unique rather than learning a system and creating according to it without veering from the system. Keep up the great work!!
What a fun video! Love your journals. I have also done several small “ gratitude journals”; a “journal of favorites” (fav. Books, poems, songs, sights, gifts, vacations); and a “ journal of memories”.
Thank you for sharing your ideas about junk journals..I see lots of videos on how to make one, but not that many on what to actually do with one. And thank you for doing the folded page video too.🌹💐🌸
I have been scrapbooking for over 20 years, I have done over 100 books, plus over 20 for my brother. Because I am recording our lives in rhe scrapbooks, I dont feel any need to journal. The word journal really throws me off from junk journals, though I do watch lots of videos of junk journal makers, and they are beautiful. About 7 years ago, I got caught up with the scrapbooking and discovered glue books which have been a perfect fit for me. I have made over 40 gluebooks by filling up vintage scrapbooks, or binding my own 8.5x11 pages and Ihave recently started filling up composition books, they get so fat and chunky and so much fun.
I think "junk journal" are the new scrapbooks... lol, but I love gluebooks as well. There's just something about glueing things to paper that is calming for me.
I love the ones like your little cotton tail one, that arent meant to be written in, but almost like curated interactive treasure picture books for grown ups (and kids too). But its a tactile and visual book of pleasures for our hearts.
Thank you for all the glimpses into the journals! I have an altered book for card ideas. That was my first foray into junk journals. I have a journal I made and cataloged my last year in a foreign country. I also have a granddaughter journal (she's 2) that I add to as I spend time w/her or write a memory or a prayer for her. I want to make one like you described for "working in" rather than a theme or mission to get it done in a set time frame. I like Luisa and Barbara, too.
Of all the videos that I have watched on junk journaling and it's purpose, your video has explained so much and completely freed my mind. I love the idea of theme books. I can now see all sorts of possibilities for my journals. To me, journaling is about expressing thoughts and ideas in ways that are meaningful to the creator through words and pictures. Sort of like an interactive art piece. I don't expect others to understand my junk journal's purpose. I also love your private journal. Great idea. I appreciate your point of view and am so thankful that I stumbled across your video. Well done! Thank you!
I'm not a journaler and have always had a bit of a problem with "junk journals" as everyone seems to emphasise books for writing stuff in! I found your video super-interesting and quite liberating as it has shown me that I am OK doing what I'm doing - mostly books with a theme, and as you said, just because you like it. I love the idea of you doing a book about pigs because you happen to like pigs!! Brilliant! I did separate books about my mum and dad after they died, and I am currently working on an Oriental-themed book. I've done teabag books, and most of all I like making books with interactive elements like pop-ups and other surprises. I have been collecting a lot of material for making junk journals which I haven't tried yet - I don't like the name as it sounds really off-putting, and I'm not a fan of the fashionable messy look - I prefer my books to be neater, but I'm all in favour of using recycled materials. Anyway your video was super-helpful and reassuring!!
@@ideas_n_embellishments Thanks Tina - I'll look her up. I've already found loads of different interactive and pop-up instructions bu she may have some I haven't yet come across! Edit - just found her channel and it's awesome - loads to explore there! Thank you for the recommendation!

Love "Charlotte's Web." I received a copy when I was elementary school age. I was born in 1953 and the book was originally published in 1952....I may have a first printing! I keep meaning to find a book store that deals in vintage books but haven't found one yet.
I have just found you and subscribed 🥰 I have little time so when I junk journal it’s precious ‘me’ time so I don’t care what goes in it because it’s really all about the joy of creating.
I'm currently working on TN style inserts to document the Month's events or base it on Seasonal theme. I also work on Commonplace junk journal to test out new ideas or store modern found ephemera. I have Dephemember 22 junk journal but took until January to complete it because I was ill for few weeks. I planning to work on journal to document my travels abroad, art journal or make another using more collected modern ephemera. I do following Barbara and Luise they are great inspiration. Before I took junk journaling seriously I was doing Smash scrapbook style it's the same thing really. I love flipping through the old ones they bring such joy.
Thank you for all the inspirational ideas. I have been paper crafting since ages (and have tons of supplies), but am new to the junk journal world. I really don't want to write personal things in my books, but like that one can use them to fill with "treasures" and make them to "play with". I made 2 junk journal books recently and cannot wait to work on them. One is with various pages from different sources and the other is with Christmas and winter themed pages from diffrent sources.

Loved the video! I have done little journals that document memories I have of a City where I lived for years... So, I actually wrote memories and comments and impressions of places at the time. I currently have a journal where I occasionally write about contemporary experiences, but it's original purpose was to be a repository for neat journal ideas and experimentation. My view of a junk journal is that it is yours to do whatever strikes your fancy! Add watercolor pages, reuse a cool collage for a card? Etc, etc 😂
Journaling is like a personal diary, junk theme or bible journal, scrapbooking, a collection of cool stuff, travel journal, drawing journal. We love them all. Pop up page tutorial please.
I would tell you that yes, I would like to see a tutorial on how to make that fold, but you've already made such a vid. Thanks! 😺 so instead, I would tell you some other stuff. First: I love the idea of the pigs journal. It would make a wonderful plaything with your grandkids. And moreover: I work with developmentally challenged youth, and to make a little booklet like that, on whatever subject they choose, would not only be a very industrious project, that would keep them occupied for a whole semester, if not the whole year; but more importantly, would give them a lot of power: to choose the subject, to direct the planning, to gather the materials. thank you so much for sharing that! secondly, I love the idea of the cooking journal! it may not be what I'm looking for - I need a way to be able to link one recipe to more than one category, like they are organized on my computer - but will undoubtedly be fun to make. and it would undoubtedly be something my artistic daughters would jump at the idea to make together. thanks for this vid! is very instructive and also inspirational 🙏
Thank you for doing this video it really helped me understand what it is and how to use it. I feel much more confident in making one now than I did before.
I have junk journals. I typically use mine for writing and documenting my everyday life, but I also include ephemera as well, such as my wrist bands from the hospital where I had to have some procedure done, or the parking permit from mine and my husband's recent get way. I will be making an idea journal and a journal for Gi Kerr's Friday Freebies.
I made a journal from junk mail. It became an “Ode to Spring”. I painted the pages with different scenes and copied in poems about Spring. I just had lots of fun with it. Another junk journal was dedicated to coffee. I love all the memes I see about coffee - so I began collecting them for my journal. I have another one dedicated to Texas. I have a composition notebook for collage. Magazine books where I folded all the pages in half - then cut the book in half to make 2 smaller books (4x5). Envelope books. I simply enjoy creating the books. A purpose for them will develop or not. It’s okay.
I love your map fold page.I learned to make those years ago for a travel journal. I would love ideas for a recipe junk journal. I have never made a junk journal and want to try to make one. My older sister has made them for year and she started to keep junk out of the land fill.
It is so much fun and helps recycle things! The foldout page tutorial is entitled "How to add an AMAZING Antiquarian Fold out to a Junk Journal!" Enjoy and happy crafting!
Wow, you are so talented. Your journals are so fun and beautiful. I would love to watch you make that page or any other page you would share! Thank you! 😍😄👏🫶

Would love to see the fold-out paper idea! Thanks for giving so many ideas for what to do with your journal. It was vi fusing to me, but now I have lots of ideas!

That was so helpful. I have not made a complete journal as yet. Have made lots of toppers ECT to add to journals but did not know exactly where I was going. I have a Xmas recipe journal I am working on at the moment but wondered where I would go from there thank you so much 😊
Beautiful journal! I’m new to junk journaling and I’ve yet to decorate any of them I’ve made. Seems I just get overwhelmed when I sit down to work in one. 😟. Thank you for sharing, there were lots of great tips ❤️❤️❤️😊
Hi Tina I just found your channel and subbed ya! I will go check out your other videos after I finish this one. I too have been asked so many times by family and friends what a junk journal is. They are so very fun to make. I have been making them since last November and I have learned so much just from watching other crafters. I like making the journals to store my memories in and a place to write down things I want to remember. This is a great video, really enjoyed it. Have a beautiful day and Happy Mother's day to you!
I suppose the real original junk journal was made by the Victorians, from young girls to ladies would collect snippets of things from circulars, magazines, pictures, you could buy paper dolls on a sheet with various outfits they could cut them out and stick them into “scrapbooks”. Once sending cards became popular then many would keep cards or letter or bits and pieces off packaging maybe a sprig of wax flowers, some pretty lace or ribbon. Others pressed flowers and would name them like a botanical print. There was/is no right or wrong way of doing them really. The Victorians’ Scrapbook morphed into Scrapbooking or Memory Albums in the 1990’s this in turn has morphed into junk journals. Although all three mediums are different their reasoning behind them is somewhat the same. They are all a collection of precious memories whether it be of things, people or nature. I’ve made several Scrapbooks in my time and they seem a cmore structured way of collecting where as a junk journal can be quite random and “messy” …in a good way.
Just found you from the title to this video. I am going to try and make a junk journal and that folded page is very interesting Looking forward to more of your videos
Each journal was a gem and I loved seeing actual writing and photos in them. Great to be reminded that they're to be used!
I have a journal that I made for my mother...and she passed in February. So now I put items, pictures, writing in it that reminds me of her.
That's a wonderful memory journal idea. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a mother is hard.
So very sorry for your loss. Hope you're doing as well as possible.

It’s okay.
I LOVE the idea of Spring and Coffee journals. Such a great idea. I might steal the coffee idea. :)
I love your map fold page.I learned to make those years ago for a travel journal. I would love ideas for a recipe junk journal. I have never made a junk journal and want to try to make one. My older sister has made them for year and she started to keep junk out of the land fill.

Thank you!
There is probably a lot of truth to that. I also used to scrapbook and have only been making junk journals for about a year. It's addictive!
Enjoyed your flip throughs. Don’t see this very often anymore. Would love to see how to do that cool fold!
