    Love the upgrades you've been making to your brewery! Great collab and delicious sounding beer! I just tried mecca grade malts for the first time and I was very impressed!

      Ha thanks! First time with those malts as well! Really good beer, got a lot of complements on it that I cant even take credit for. LOL

    elementary brewing co. sent me your way. thought id check it out. looks good. i struggle sometimes as well making beer clear. perhaps if i skim the protein and use whirlfloc i think id be golden. i bought some finings so ill use it on my next beer. light lager is my next to brew but not sure when ill get around to it. have a few recipes that im going to flip a coin and see which one will be next

      Thanks for checking out the video! I find that time is always the best thing to get beers clear! Most of my lagers need a few weeks. I also skip the lagering phase because im lazy so that also doesnt help lol.

    I find a dinner plate works awesome in the clawhammer system for pressing grains. Obviously I am not putting tons of pressure/weight so I don't break the grain basket but the plate has a large surface area and works well.

    It would be nice to have a basement here in Phoenix. We can barely dig a hole in the ground to plant a tree 😁😎. Love brewing, 120 degrees in Summer does not stop me from brewing outside in my outdoor kitchen. I have 6 taps and Im always on the hunt for new ideas. Cheers from Phoenix 💯🍻💯🍻🤙 will have to try both.

    Matt, can you please explain why you do a sparge with the Clawhammer system? And I notice that you do it without hot water. Why? My understanding is that the Clawhammmer is a BIAB system and, so a sparge isn’t necessary, right? And why do you sparge with room temperatures water. Is there a benefit to that? Thanks for doing these videos. I’m very interested in getting a Clawhammer system, so your videos help me understand it better. Take care.

      Hey! Sorry for the late reply, my notifications were turned off. Need to look into that... I sparge because I have found that my efficiency has increased ( I actually have a sparging video on my channel that goes over this ). I do not use hot water because I dont have a quick and easy way to heat it and I found that heating it does not make a massive impact on efficiency compared to just room temperature. Sparging is never necessary with BIAB but it never hurts.

    Great collab! Do you factor in how the sparge water might change the pH? Just curious if you take another reading after it’s added to see if there’s a difference. Also curious if you’ve noted a difference in efficiency by sparging? Thanks and cheers 🍻

      Good Question! Yea since I just add distilled the pH may change a bit, but its only a gallon and its done after the mash is completed so it shouldn't make any impact on efficiency. Im sure it makes a small impact on overall final pH but I couldn't tell you by how much. If I was sparging with like 2-3 gallons I would probably adjust that. Regarding efficiency by sparging I did see a bump. I have a video on my channel talking about sparging that I also link to in the video while im sparging were I talk about it if your interested.

    Why room temp water for sparging?

    • @TroubleBrewing
      @TroubleBrewing  Рік тому +1

      Honestly it’s just more convenient, I also have a video on sparging on my channel we’re I don’t see a major efficiency change when heating up.
