    I just purchased the same sink/faucet and am curious why you initially clean off the Clawhammer outside as opposed the sink. Because of all the hop debris? Are there some things you’re not comfortable pouring down the drain? Thanks!

    I got my most efficient lauter and sparge by accident. My mash tun is a cooler with a steel braid strainer. I cleaned out my mash tun, dumped in the strike water, stirred in the grains, then realized I left the strainer out. Rather than messing up my temperature at that point, I let the mash sit for two hours. Then I scooped the grain out of the cooler into buckets, cleaned out the spigot so it wouldn't clog, put the strainer back in, put the mash back into the cooler, and rinsed the scoop and the buckets with sparge water. I ended up with a higher gravity than I was shooting for. That extended mash coupled with the extra handling must have squeezed more of the goodies out of the grain.

    Very helpful video, thanks for that. I saw that the bottling/canning pressure is 6 psi, but what is the pressure, temperature and for how long do you carbonate the beer? Thank you!

    • @TroubleBrewing

      I typically do 35psi for 1 day and then go down to serving pressure (10 psi), Its fine after one day but after a few more days the carb level is perfect.

    How do you avoid over filing the keg (which I'm assuming will just spill out the gas disconnect)? Could you use a check valve gas disconnect which I'm thinking will just stop the flow when liquid hits it? My brew batches are normally a couple of litres more than the 19 litre corny and i transfer into a purged but open corny so I see when it's full and i just bottle the extra.

    Great video! When you note that you aren't going to use glycol or a fan for your lines because they are less than 6 feet, are you referring to the length of the lines outside of the keezer? Or the total length of the lines? I'm looking to move my beer taps to the top of my bar and I am going to need to run my lines outside of my kegerator. The length from kegerator to tower is probably about 3 feet and the last thing I want is foamy beer! Thanks!

    • @TroubleBrewing
      @TroubleBrewing 4 місяці тому

      There is probably about 3 feet of line outside my keezer. Regarding the foam, the first pour every day is a bit foamy but after that it pours just like normal for the day. That first pour gets the line cold enough where it is not a problem. Up to you though!

    Everyone should really understand the Beer coming from the Keg to the Taps MUST be relatively COLD and it's a shame, but I would have liked to see him pour beer. Because it would be a ton of foam beer. He doesn't have a true method or proper insulation to keep the Beer at a cold temp to avoid foaming. Let me know if anyone has built something like he has shown and it worked. I'd be VERY surprised to see no foam. Especially if the beer sits in the line for more than 10 minutes then pour from the Tap. ANYONE'S Thoughts???

    • @TroubleBrewing
      @TroubleBrewing 6 місяців тому

      Hello! The first pour of the day I would say the glass is half foam and if you let it settle for about 5 minutes you just top it back off. You mention that it would take 10 minutes for you to have another foam issue, this is just not the case unless you have a very warm place were the lines would be. After the first pour there are no issues for the day. You can go through the trouble of keeping the lines cold; which I do link to a resource on how to do that, but I find that just waiting 5 minutes after the first pour of the day is not significant enough of an issue to set this up. Up to you though! Let me know if you have questions.

    Something to be cognizant of is that you're pulling a vacuum on the inside of your house. Air will need to come back in from the outside to replenish what you're exhausting. Those big fans move a lot of air. This can be dangerous if you're also running a natural gas furnace or water heater as the exhaust can be caused to back up into your house and lead to carbon monoxide issues.

    • @TroubleBrewing

      Thanks for checking out the video! Overall I wouldn't change a thing. I do find that the first pour pours more foam then subsequent ones (im assuming this is because the lines above the freezer are room temperature?) So maybe implement some system to keep the lines cold above the freezer. But this really is not a big deal and I only would consider this if I'm really bored one day... The only other thing I can think of is I find that you really need to torque down on the handles so they don't move around on ya and you may need 2 people to tighten those down. Cheers!

    Hi Matt. Thanks for the video, I'm likely to create a fermentation chamber similar to yours, given I'm in a colder climate (Tasmania, Australia). Now that you've had this chamber for a few years, have you found that it works perfectly every time, or is there anything that you'd do differently? i.e. extra heating elements? Does it stay cool enough on it's own during Summer to not require a cooling system? Thanks in advance.

      I have not had an issue with it! Kept it warm enough for lagers.

    Brewtools have a "Heating Element, 2" 500W" that fits into a Unitank

    Welp, you meant "under $100 as long as you already have all you need" right? 😅 Regardless, nice video!

      Thanks for checking out the video! So in my case I built it for under 50 but if you source a cheep used/free ac on facebook marketplace you can prob build around that $100 price tag.

    Thanks! My only question is, how do you dry the plate chiller? It’s been a few days and I still hear some sloshing. I’ve had it on its side, fittings facing down, but no luck. Is the water a concern? Miss your videos but I get that content creation is a real tough thing to do, especially in a hobby as tiring and niche as ours. Cheers!

      Hey thanks! Yea I had to stop when we had our second kid. I do plan on revisiting UA-cam at some point but honestly was getting burnt out as well. So to answer your question, its going to be pretty impossible to 100% get it dry because of how they are designed. There is probably always a bit of water in mine. As long as its just water and not chemicals/wort or anything there should not be a problem.

    I purchased the 20 gallon 230vac system 4 years ago. I gave up on using the brewing basket as mashing was too inaccurate. Temps would be out by 5f. Also way to heavy to lift and drain when doing 20 pounds of grain. I now use a separate mash kettle and I fly sparge. Also I don't use the kettle anymore because I had to purchase a Spike condensation lid because my new brew space has no window to exhaust the steam. The condensation lid is 1/4" to big to fit on the Claw hammer kettle - Not happy about that! This forced me to buy a 20 gallon Spike Kettle. I still use the pump and controller built by Claw Hammer and love it. If I could do it all over, I would purchase the Claw Hammer controller and build the system to surround it. Cheers!

    Thanks for this reminder video! I actually own the older version and mostly keg and use it very rarely now and needed a refresher. I remember having the beer line issue and solved it with microwaved water. I'd microwave some water for a minute, pour it over the connected beer hose and beer tube, and the hose end became just soft enough for me to use my thumbnail to easily remove it from the beer tube. Thanks for this video! 👍🏾

    How about cutting it back to 1gal batch. I am just a beginner so 1gal batches are all I do. Thank You

      You can definitely scale recipes to 1 gallon if you want, but depending on your hardware there may be a minimum batch size.
