To be fair the Persians really spanked the Persians. Love how every other unit was being slaughtered and Savars still have half left until Persian elephants showed up.
+3 vs archers, in addition to +2 team bonus vs archers. Longbowmen die in 2 hits, imperial skirmishers die in 3 hits. They're like a better version of Tarkans.
cataphract are still fearsome, they are just meant for different role. They destroy all infantries and camels while Savar suffer badly against the same counter units.

@@EagleTopGaming If I counted right, it's 15 Centurions vs 18 or 19 Savars. Seems like a classical case of Lancaster's law, where a small number advantage snowballs over the course of a fight. The Centurion has slightly better stats, but only marginally, so having 3-4 more units is way more effective. The Savar also has a slightly faster attack speed at 1.8 compared to the Centurions 1.9.
Centurions are good as stand alone cavalry and as a buffer for the legionaries…..cents are designed for limited use more cause are more expensive but have more uses then other heavy cav in my opinion thats why are more expensive
persian rework "revived" 1 heroes unit (savar who got replaced by sogdian cataphract on india updates) as unique upgrade and 1 UT (boiling oil revived as citadel)
I don't care if people say this was an unnecessary and pointless change, I still fucking love that they went for it. War Elephants are hard to use well in online matches, so giving the Persian Paladin a reskin helps give the civ more aesthetic uniqueness.
Would be nice to get more Paladin replacements, the Paladin's aesthetic is so out of place in most civilisations in the game, the Paladin would fit much better as a Frank unique unit rather than a generic one.

i'm going on a limp here as i'm just on the chu ko nu, but Japanese samurai due to their bonus against unique unit, all the anti-cavalry unique unit and the viking berserker(if with the chieftain tech) that might give the savar a better match up(thats on top of my head)

Aside from that, you are better than any unique Cavalier and not FU Paladins, and at least on par with generic FU Paladins in most cases. You die in the same amount of hits against Halbs and Camels and take 23 additional Arb shots, have +5 Attack against archers, a cheaper upgrade, retain the 1.8 Attack speed from knights and generate gold while killing enemy military units. The new Persian Eco also seems pretty nutty, so there's that.
it's not much of a bonus compared to the high base attack, only makes a difference of 1 less hit to kill if even that, and being more tuned towards anti-archer than the Paladin is literally what the Savar's niche is supposed to be in the first place. Take that away and it's basically just a reskinned Paladin.

All I'm saying is, this game had a dedicated fanbase for 20+ years who just loved the game, but I'm not sure it'll survive more than a couple more with "support" from the company reformatting it into a live service model.
