Diamond Dave is one of my favorite ppl! He’s so intelligent, funny, kind (bc I met him, he offered me cookies and walked with me his arm around my shoulders!!!) and someone that makes me feel better about just being myself love you DLR!!!

You have always been my favorite rock superstar. I have been to every concert you ever did in Cincinnati. I was at the Riverfront Coliseum one time where a record label friend got me and my girlfriend back stage passes to finally meet my favorite band in the world. We were told to attach a special adhesive patch to our right thigh and take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Once the doors opened we were escorted down the hallway into a large room. The room was filled with about 60 beautiful young women and maybe 2 dudes other than myself. I was having the best time of my life looking around the room at all these women and getting the opportunity of a lifetime to finally meet my band. There were double doors that the band was supposed to come into the room. Everyone hovered around those doors because they knew the Van was right behind them. Some bouncer looking dude opened a door and said the Van will be with you in 5 minutes. About 7 minutes went by and the same bouncer dude said it will be another 5 minutes. About 6 minutes later the same bouncer dude comes out and said I am very sorry to inform you all but Van Halen has left the building! He said we have our jerk Cincinnati police chief to blame because he is after David for lighting up a joint on stage. I was never more disappointed in my life not to finally meet Diamond Dave. I could have bonded and been the third Picasso brother if I would have met him.

Dave Lee Roth is highly intelligent. I have always loved the Van Halen Albums up to 1984, all of which have him as the lead singer. I respect him even more now for being inquisitive, historical, and ethnographic. I look forward to the Van Halen show in Osaka!

Japanese tattooing as we know it today, really began in the Edo period following the success of Ukiyo-e artists such a Kuniyoshi, who depicted warriors with elaborate tattoos covering different parts of the body if not the whole body. Tattooing in Japan does go back thousands of years, but not in form you see today, this was started primarily in the 19th century

Very informative on the tattoos.
I started getting tattoos LONG before they were a fashion statement. And living in the VERY VERY VERY conservative Cincinnati Ohio area and being a house painter my clients were VERY wealthy doctors and lawyers local celebrities. SO nothing below the the sleeve of a short sleeve Tee shirt. My first professional tattoo was done by doctor Who after he retired from his Sunset Stripe shop and returned to his home area of Newport News Virginia. That tattoo is now 35+ yrs old. I returned back to the Cinninatti area but the tattoo bug had bitten I wanted a quarter sleeve chest plates quarter sleeve down the other arm. BUT I wanted a hybred tattoo combining Japanese/jail house free hand.
I tried Dana the waiting list was JUST TOO long. I found a guy who had done his apprenticeship for the State of Ohio corrections 😂Explained my idea he was down. He broke out the sharpies and got to work LONG story short he got in over his head. We had differing views of what I wanted and what he was capable of achieving. I ended that tattoo relationship. I FINALLY got one side completed and traditional koi on the left side of my chest cherry blossoms wind bars so on. It didnt work out with that particular scratcher niether.
Flash forward to about 5 years ago I was living with a young woman of Asian ancestry her grand mother who was living in Japan during WW II. We had a nice holiday dinner after which we were going out to Lexington Kentucky for some fun. In the process of changing she seen me without a shirt on her whole demeanor changed towards me.
Her sister is missing her pinky as the story goes. You youself understand that. I apologize for the txt but you touched on a subject very near and dear to my heart. And thanks for advancing my knowledge of Japanese tattooing.

Last week I was into The Beach Boys. God only knows and Sail on Sailor. Saw a snippet of the guys trying to drag Brian surfing and him saying know way I'll get sand in my hair. Hilarious. Now I have Just a Giggalo stuck in my head 24/7. My 3 year old wanted some magic words the other day I think I'll teach him the scat from Just a Giggalo. I could listen to Dave talk all day. David, It wasn't that we couldn't get into heaven (wherever that is); it's that we couldn't be buried in Jewish sacred ground. Mostly the orthodox held that tradition. Now that's lightened up and we're allowed tattoos.
