Great overview of all the necessary steps, especially using the check bolt, washers, and importance of torque specs. Saw a recent video of a Honda tech not doing the check valve step, was getting critique’d big time. Keep up the good work!

This is the proper procedure, many fail to verify the levels by opening the check bolt. You can’t just go by replacing the exact amount that comes out because levels may be off to begin with- either improperly serviced from before or maybe even having a leak.
Thanks for the detailed video. I saved myself a $309 Brake Masters shop. Thought they would “flush it out” for that price but it’s just a DRAIN N POUR service. My ATF replacement went well but the only thing is that I should have removed the front driver wheel to allow more space and to catch the fluid into the container I got the HONDA CVT oil at the Honda dealership for $13.55 per quart. Great deal.
According to a Honda tech, the filter only needs to be changed if there is a problem, or a suspected problem. I changed the filter once when I first got the car and will probably change it again soon because I’m approaching 190k. I will put up a video when I change the filter.
Thanks! I was trying to get rid of some left over connectors and silicone elbows. Definitely makes fluid changes easier, and maybe better throttle response?
@EverydayPhysio I'm sure it gives a nice sound atleast. Unfortunately aftermarket intakes have been tested multiple times, and have shown to do very little if anything. However on modern cars they need a tune to get full advantage of them. I'm sure it's getting cooler air, and helping your mpg and probably yeah...helping throttle response.
I've been trying to get everyone I know to check their transmission vent. They clog all the time , especially honda. Mine was clogged up at 18,000 miles on my 2019 civic coupe ex-t. I check it once a month now, and like you said, point it towards the battery. Factory has it facing forwards to the grill. Which is what causes the clogging.
Good question! Washer, Drain Plug (18MM) - Honda (90471-PX4-000) Bolt, Drain Plug (20MM) - Honda (92800-20000) I can’t believe I forgot to include that! I added to the comments
If you have a lower splash guard like he has, you might get lucky and find it laying down there somewhere. The part is easy to replace, part# 25615-5DL-003 at any local dealer. It's about $25.00
I asked a Honda service advisor about that and he said that they never change the filter unless it is over 50,000 miles and it looks like the transmission fluid has never been changed (or if there has been a problem with the transmission). I changed my filter at 100,000 miles and it still looked pretty clean (but I change my transmission fluid every 8 - 10,000 miles). I plan to change the filter again at 200,000 and will post a video.
I WATCHED YOUR WHOLE VIDEO 👍👍👍👍👍👍YOU DID PERFECT JOB👍👍👍👍BUT YOU MADE TOO COMPLICATED 😰😒😢😥I DID THE SAME JOB 😱😱😱😱ALL I DID DRAIN OUT FLUID 👍👍👍👍👍THEN CLOSE BOLT ON THE TOP LIKE YOU SHOWED 👍👍👍I HAVE SPECIAL PUMP 😱👍👍😱KEEP PUMPING TILL FLUID COMING OUT FROM THE WHOLE 👍👍👍👍STOP 😱😱😱😱JOB DONE
You actually need to cycle the transmission twice after doing that. Fill it until it overflows, then seal it up and start the engine cycling through all the gears, pausing for at least 3 seconds in each position. Then fill again with CVT fluid until it overflows. THEN you are done.
Great observation! The part of the vehicle in question is commonly called a gear selector or gear select lever (to indicate the positions of park, reverse, neutral, and drive). Of course there are no gears in the actual assembly, but the term is still used

Excellent Video - Thank You! I appreciate your attention to the details.
Glad it was helpful! I tried to get everything in and keep it short and sweet
Thanks for sharing. It's really appreciated. So, no filter needs to be changed?

Thanks man. Much appreciated. I want to do this, but I'm worried since my driveway is not level.
Great video, thank you and appreciate the humor
Great Video .. very informative and detailed.. good job.!

the transmission vent arrow should point to the battery not forward as the factory installed it.

Excelente trabajo en casa.

Great video , I like the drain spout hack with the old bottle. What size were the new washers?
Good question!

Is this the same procedure on a 2023 Honda HRV with the 2.0L and the CVT?
Yes, I believe pre 2024 it is the same CVT. Honda Fluid type is HCF -2
After how many miles should it be done?
30K , but I do it every 8-10k because I’m in Florida where it’s 80+ degrees 10 months of the year 😆
You said the cap can pop off??? So mine is missing did I leave on the highway some ware???

Concidero que el aceite tiene que ser el original
I can’t believe they didn’t put in a dipstick!!
Which engine oil do you use in your hrv?
Amsoil 0w20 High mileage… Occasionally I will use Royal Purple because it’s easier to find
How much oil in HRV 2018
3.9 qt
I don’t see any plug on the top to fill my 2022
The fill plug is a black rubber plug situated beneath the airbox

You used the wrong fluid which voids the Honda warranty.

Anyway, it’s a moot point as the vehicle has been out of warranty for over 50k miles.

CVT has no gears

And in fact. If you have a sport stand with spoon on thé stearingwheel ten you have a cvt that gives you 7 fictional gears.
