I don't really think that he is Mykel and Carli's brother because if not he would have a weezer hat and also he would probably be have the last name Allen and also I think that he would be listed as Mykel and Carli brother. Also Fertility rate decreases by year so its not very likely that Mykel and Carli and Trista's mom had enough fertility to give birth one more time.
I love how river is trying to get them all to shut the fuck up with his harmonica when there’s screaming requests him. he’s like stfu i’m playing a song i wrote for my two best friends
It’s not drugs, earlier in the concert he started crying towards the end of Pink Triangle, and I guarantee he teared up during playing this, as you can hear unsteadiness in Rivers’ voice.
One of the very few instances when you can hear Rivers sing out of tune to an extent and who can blame him!. He was litteraly choked up. At 6:35 I think he's on the verge of crying. That little sound he's exhaling I don't think was controlled/intentional.
Depressing describes this performance. Rivers was best friends with Mykel and Carli Allen. Them dying in a crash on the way to a show shows their devotion to the band, which eventually ended in a tragedy. Rivers Cuomo… we remember this…
Wow that was really sad. This song was written before they died, but it was certainly recontextulized through the prism of this tragedy. Genuinely really sad.
I ordered one of those green Weezer hats from Mykel & Carli. They ran the fan club back in the day. They died in a car accident on the way to a weezer show in Salt Lake I believe. Still have that hat somewhere - I also ordered that raddest black long sleeve shirt with a red& yellow weezer W that striped across the front. Wish I still had that one cause I’ve never seen another one since & I bought it right after Pinkerton came out in 96. On the Pinkerton CD was an address you could send a SASE for a hand written lyric booklet that was really awesome and they also sent with it a tiny postcard sized black & white advertisement with different merchandise you could order by snail mail. Different times. Better times. Best Weezer
This song gets to me every single time. This is the first time I have ever heard it live, and it got to me even more, especially due to the circumstances in which it was played. I may be wrong, but Rivers seemed to have a look on his face as he walked up to the mic that made it even more painful.
The end of an era. This was Weezer’s last show before going on hiatus and also their last show with Matt Sharp on bass before he left a year later. This was also That Dog’s last show before they spilt up.
I can't even imagine what those parents were going through. Not only is losing one kid bad enough, but three at one time... I don't think I could go on after that.
Are you talking about the screaming at the very beginning? I would agree with that. But I was at this show, and I felt like, in general, we, the audience, were trying to be really supportive of the family and show them as much love as possible. I was wearing a homemade button in tribute to Mykel and Carli. It was an amazing night. Still one of the five best shows I've ever attended.
Mykel and Carli were two Weezer's friends and early supporters. They died in a car accident in '97, the two persons who talk at the very first part of the video are their parents. Since this video is from 1997 too, it could be the first time they played this song after Mykel and Carli's death
Mykel and Carli were two close friend's of everyone in Weezer. I believe they made the fan club and traveled to nearly all Weezer shows. They died in a car accident.
@jdugmar Mykel and Carli were a bit less involved in the writing of the song than that. It was mostly Rivers' idea, as he originally wrote the song back in 1993 (which can be found on UA-cam, surprisingly enough) and he kept it a secret until it was finished. He called them off and on during the day he wrote it to ask them the high school they went to, their address, and a few other details, and when they asked him he wouldn't tell. Rivers and the rest of the band stressed to come to the show they first played it at in particular (though they usually went to all of their shows, anyhow, but obviously this one was pretty important). So it was moreso a surprise for both of them, and then a studio version was recorded for the Blue Album sometime later that year. However, none of them really liked any of the finished mixes, so the last one they did ended up on the Sweater Song single, like you had mentioned. Just a tad bit of trivia from a Weezer fan :)
This song was written years before their deaths. JME"s song was written in response to their deaths which is why it is a much better eulogy to the sisters whereas Weezer's song was written as as shoutout to bestfriends
@@radoverpink YEAH I USED TO LISTEN TO ELLIOTT SMITH ETC BUT THEN I REALIZED I WAS JUST REINFORCING BEING A PUSSY/LOSER. IT'S FUN TO NOT BE THAT ANYMORE

The best version of Mykel And Carli. So unfortunate it happened in these circumstances. RIP Mykel, Carli and Trysta.

This is really sad but amazing
It truly is and was. I could really feel the kind of emotion that Rivers was conveying, that performance was extremely heartfelt and incredible.

That’s nuts
2:47 Rivers looks absolutely distraught.
He looks so distraught that I actually didn't even recognize him as Rivers
rivers used to drink a ton back in the pinkerton days to cope with performing, so he was definitely completely trashed drunk to play that song
I remember when this tragic event happened. Broke a lot of peoples hearts. Difficult to believe it was almost 26 years ago.
Tears running down my face. I look at this song in a whole new light now. Such a raw, tender performance from Rivers. RIP girls.
I can't even imagine what those parents were going through. Not only is losing one kid bad enough, but three at one time... I don't think I could go on after that.
Thank god i packed a lunch, didn't know I was going on a feel trip
This sad performance video is no place for bad jokes duder
The fact that there are actually people in this world that will dislike this video makes me furious but this is still beautiful
This just owned me out of nowhere... I'm crying. Very human; very beautiful.
The real Weezer.
The pain of their parents. No parent should have to bury their child.
God Rivers' face, he looks so...lost.
Truly heart breaking and amazing at the same time!
Great performance! Holy crap Rivers had long hair
I see you everywhere. Like seriously lol.
his hair here is godly
Rivers used to have even longer hair, like lower-than-his-shoulders long hair. Check out The Kitchen Tapes Cover.
The feels :(
I just found out that they wrote this song because of them. Got me right in the feels.
They actually wrote the song before they died, strangely
Dawson Lee It's not really that strange. They were their absolute number one fans, and Weezer appreciated them enough to write a song about them.

Aw that is so cool! Fair enough.
SirHatchporch weren't Mykel and Carli friends with the Jimmy Eat World singer too? Man, that's pretty cool that you got to experience this.
