  • Alrighty y'all, here's a less glamorous video of me getting my wisdom teeth extracted (sorta nervous to post this lol)! I got all 4 out, 3 of which were very impacted. My surgery involved me getting sedated through anesthesia emitted through an IV so I don't remember a thing. I was terrified before the surgery, so felt it would be helpful to film the process. It took me around 4 days to recover and go back to work. I still am experiencing some pain since the gaps in the back of my mouth are still healing (can take around 1 month), but I'm pretty much back to my normal routine.
    Some essentials:
    - Ice Pack (similar to the one my Dr. gave me): amzn.to/3Ode87V
    - Liquid foods (soups, smoothies, mashed potatoes, etc.)
    - Gauze & mouthwash (received from Dr.)
    - Lots of Netflix!

    Tips:
    1) Have extra gauze and some tea bags (tannic acid in tea helps form blood clots) for after surgery.
    2) Rest your head elevated the first night.
    3) Start brushing your teeth again on day two and remove as much blood stain from your teeth. Use the mouthwash as directed on the bottle.
    4) Eat room-temperature soup and mashed potatoes the first 2-4 days. On day 3 if you feel comfortable opening and closing your mouth start chewing smaller pieces of soft-to-solid food with your front teeth.
    5) Avoid touching the areas of teeth extraction with your tongue.
    6) Don't freak out if your stitches come loose or undone after the 2nd day.
    7) Use an ice pack on and off every 15 minutes for the 1st day. On 2nd day start doing some mouth opening/closing exercises by placing two warmed wet towels on either side of your cheeks.
    8) Drink your antibiotics as directed and keep yourself well hydrated.
Pretty sure I have others, but that's all I can think of for right now. Currently, 4 days post op and pain has gone immensely, if not fully. Hopefully, I won't experience any dry socket going forward.

I just got mine out, and I'm more annoyed and irritated than in pain LOL. 1) I can't eat any delicious solid foods and I'm a huge foodie 2) the extraction site feels more like an annoying type of pain than actual "ouch" pain if that makes sense 3) I work out daily and now I feel so useless in bed resting (which I know is what I need to do to heal but still) 4) I WANT FOOOOOOOD :(

i just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out 3 days ago and i’m here to tell you, if you are afraid PLEASE dont be! i have major anxiety, and chose anesthesia. it’s nerve wracking i wont lie, but it’s definitely not as bad as i originally thought. first day was ehh, i was very tired from the drugs. pain was wild, it’s not really a PAIN way more of a “soreness” i would say. second day has definitely been the worst, pain wise. i felt much better but my teeth hurt quite badly. again, “sore”. today i’m doing LOADS better, i can even wait an hour or two before taking another dose of pain medicine. still hurts but definitely less. i’ve swelled a little bit, but not like others so i dont have much advice on that part. i MISS FOOD SO BAD!! im sick of mash potatoes ☹️

I wish I never heard of this until after my procedure which is in a couple weeks but I’ve heard of anesthesia awareness is when you’re awake during anesthesia like your mind is awake but you can’t move talk or open your eyes so they don’t know you’re awake, that’s what scares me the most. I’m also scared of the fact of the pain afterwards especially if the pain is it medicine is only Tylenol. I’ve watched videos on how the wisdom teeth removal is done they literally cut into your gum. It just looks so gruesome I don’t understand how Tylenol can help that pain.

Get a a very good oral surgeon if you’re wisdom teeths are complicated. I’m on day 4 and I’m recovering very well, only experience minor swelling now. Mine was complicated cause they had to do a coronectomy on the lower jaw tooths as they were pretty much in my jaw and too close to the nerve. The upper ones were all impacted, but I decided to get them removed to avoid complications in the future. The surgery and recovery for myself went very well. I didn’t have any major pains, except stiffness and swelling mainly. Day 3 was the worst for swelling, but today I feel pretty much back to my normal self and not taking any medication except for the antibiotics. Throughout my recovery I pretty much took regular ibuprofen and I was fine. I’m 28 and freaked out, but this has been overall a very good recovery and you’ll be fine too. Just make sure you do your reviews on dentists and oral surgeons and you’ll be fine, at least that was my experience.

I couldn't talk because of all the gauze in my mouth and I was in pain. They woke me up and wanted me out of there as fast as they can as if there was another patient behind me waiting to get there wisdom teeth remove. It's been 4 days and it hurts and hard to swallow. I’m 5 days post-op and I’m FINALLY starting to feel like myself. I had two uppers and one lower removed. I was lucky and only the lower one was slightly impacted. The healing process went really well (DONT SUCK ON ANYTHING. SERIOUSLY.) since I followed the directions religiously, but I had horrible dizziness and head spins like I have never had before.
I’m prone to migraines and TMJ and I think the trauma to my jaw caused a major tension headache. I had a pulsating migraine that lasted for three days. It’s only began to alleviate today and I’m still on Advil and Excedrin. If you can, don’t take the pain killers they give you. I had a horrible narcotics headache from taking one of the hydros and again, was even MORE dizzy from it.
Also the antibiotics can make you feel fatigued and dizzy. So yeah. Feeling dizzy and headaches have been the biggest factors for me. If it wasn’t for those, I honestly would have few complaints.
    DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!!!

  • @rikkunikay

Had mine taken out last friday, watching these kind of videos helps me reassure a bit of the healing process.
Luckily my case has been really good so far, had 3 pulled out. I can't really chew food only with my front teeth. It's been a bit shitty because I loveeeeee eating cookies and stuff and now I have to stick to liquid-ish foods.
No pain though, but my surgeon prescribed painkillers in the form of powder that you put into water and drink.
For anyone reading, I recommend eating soups, mashed potatoes, ice cream, scrambled eggs, avocado, banana, chocolate (melts on the tongue if you do want something sweet) etc. just generally things that don't get lodged into your sockets easily and are really soft. I would prevent hard stuff such as cookies, nuts, seeds and any other little or hard thing.
Started rinsing after day 3 to prevent any food being left in the mouth that could cause infection. And just very carefully brush the teeth, trust me, I'm also very afraid to get a dry socket. Something you will WANT to avoid.
Before you know it it'll be over. Healing process can take up to a month/6 weeks I've heard, 4th day for me only so far so I have a long way to go, but I hope to eat bread again after 7 days.

I know you left this comment a long time ago but do you have anything to add for your recovery process? I get mine out in 2 days and I’m only worried for the recovery (when you can workout again, when you can eat normally again and how long swelling lasted !)

    • @rikkunikay
      @rikkunikay 3 роки тому

@@maevehourihane188 Well it's been half a year ago now and it's healed very nicely. I definitely think everyone has a different healing process. For me tje swelling lasted about a week. On the 3rd day after my wisdom teeth got pulled the swelling was the worst, on the 7th day you almost didn't even notice anything. It's the lower wisdom teeth that caused most swelling since it's near a lot of sensitive nerves.
I wouldn't recommend working out in the first week, taking a stroll and such is fine but when you do push ups or anything that could put too much pressure on the head area, causing a bleeding or popping out the blood cloth that you really want to keep for a good healing progress. After the blood cloths feel strong enough usually 8th, 9th or 10th day (for some) you can pick up working out again but still not putting a lot of pressure on it like lifting heavy weights, I would do that later in the 2nd week just to be sure.
As for food, after 5 days I could eat bread almost normally again but still had to be careful with nuts or other sharper stuff or tiny stuff. Cleaning is key, do not forget it, you don't want any food in the holes or it could cause infection.
I had a mouth wash that I had to use after the 3rd day (blood cloths need 3 days to tighten properly), they advised me to not put pressure on it, aka swishing or pushing the mouth wash around harshly. Let it sit in your mouth for a bit and tilt your head and tongue slightly to get it where it needs to be. After 10 days you can use the mouth was normally again.
I hope this helps, if you have more questions i'd happoly answer them.

I just got my 4 wisdom teeth out on Monday, as well as two premolars! The most important thing is just to take the medication as directed, but there were some times when I noticed that they were wearing off and could feel pain so I took them as soon as I felt this! The first two days are hard in terms of your mouth being super swollen and not being able to chew food, so maybe have smoothies, soup, ice cream etc. Also, I found it best to sleep sitting up at night because it allows the fluids to drain correctly and not drool everything all over your bed. Good luck with your surgery, everything will be okay! 🤗

Omg I am getting mines out on Tuesday. I’m so nervous!! 😅
1 hour mark: im done!! I honestly feel discomfort and strange numbness. No pain. I had laughing gas which was.... an experience... I wouldn't suggest it to those who are VERY scared of needles as I did feel the pain of them sticking the needles through. I squirmed a bit in the seat. I didn't feel them tearing my gums but I felt them cutting and removing the teeth fragments. Again, not too painful. Just mild pain here and there. The laughing gas made me feel slower but other than that, i felt normal and aware of everything. And I survived!
24 hour mark: i am actually doing better than I thought. There's barely any pain which makes me nervous 😅. I expected I will be in a lot of pain like how it was after my tonsillectomy but I only feel slight discomfort. Sometimes i forget i even had the surgery until I move my jaw.
48 hour mark: Still no serious pain! Once i felt it, i took my prescribed pain medicine and im fine. Recovery has been more of an inconvenience than pain. Im super nervous of dry socket so I barely move my jaw now. Im so glad I stocked up on broths.
96 hour mark: I feel so much better. Just a little soreness here and there but I can finally open and close my jaw normally. I can finally eat (tediously slow, however) solid food now which shocked me (it could be because it's Thanksgiving and i dont care anymore....👀). The biggest problem at this point is not getting food stuck near my wisdom teeth. So much food is stuck there and I can't get it out no matter what I do😭. I hope it doesn't cause anything tho.

Omg. This is so me. I'm getting mine out in 5 days and I'm going under a general. The anesthesia is what I'm nervous about but I'd rather be asleep then awake! I don't like needles either, but I actually pass out cold when I get even the tiniest amount of blood drawn. And yes, I am terrified of saying stupid things after lol. And the whole losing time thing freaks me out too. And my friend's gf is driving an hour to drive me, so I am so grateful to her! But I will be alone during recovery since my family lives in Canada, and due to the pandemic, the border is closed. Ugh!

    • @jennifergrove2368
      @jennifergrove2368 3 роки тому

So I'm on day 5 of recovery and I think mine would have gone a lot more smoothly if it weren't for developing two massive canker sores on the inside of my lower lip a few days ago! Like directly where my top tooth meets my bottom lip so it's constantly being prodded at so it's basically torture. If anyone is prone to canker sores, (I think it runs in my family.) just be mindful that this could happen. My theory is that when they put me under with the IV, they probably weren't as careful where they were working as when if I were awake and just had a local/freezing done, they would probably be much more mindful of how rough they were being. (Not that my surgeon wasn't great. I luckily had a really great surgeon with nice bedside manner. But anyone would psychologically lower their carefulness when the patient is put under. So totally not his fault. Just a theory I'm throwing out there.) Also, I'm wondering if maybe ibuprofen would make you more susceptible to them as these are technically ulcers and I know ibuprofen lends a risk to stomach ulcers too..

My doctor prescribed amoxicillin. Some don’t prescribe antibiotics unless there is an infection. If it’s still feeling moderately-severely bad after a week I would def contact your surgeon.

“Anxiety has no logic” yep I’m with you- I had my wisdom teeth removed a few days ago and I was a mess. It ended up being so smooth but I can relate. Also $2k out of pocket?! Goodness that’s terrible... don’t get me wrong mine was expensive but geez...

Currently on day 3 after lower wisdom tooth surgery and the swelling ramped up (as predicted by my doctor). A mild fever started about an hour ago but I've read it's normal. Looking forward to eating solid again. The discomfort is real but I'm sure it'll be fine after a couple of days.

@@poptartmepls8005 yesterday morning I ate pancakes and I've eating scrambled eggs for a couple of days. Currently on day 6. Still uncomfortable but the swelling greatly reduced as of yesterday. Finally! I can still feel a little hard bump near my jack and a lot of stiffness but it's much better to the highest level of swelling I got on Tuesday where my cheek turned into a ball.

I heard a fever is not normal and that signals infection or a dry socket

Dude I feel you. I had to pay 2K up front out of pocket the day of surgery and that was almost scarier than the surgery 😂 and i have good health insurance. I am currently on day 2 of getting 4 out with IV anesthesia
