Hi Merrill, Thank you for this video. You had mentioned an interest in Nexus in an earlier video, and from there, I researched and learned more about Nexus, the intense MD depth contests they do in Bulgaria, the Golden Mask detectors, Tesoro, Paul Warren on the Thames River UK, etc. Your mind is always thinking and seeking the cutting edge of knowledge and discovery. Learning is so enjoyable. I appreciate you and what you do. Thank you & God-speed, Chris
The first met det, i had i build it my self i'm techniek instrumentiste from eletronik. Is a metal detector analoge of course, and i build the divice in 1985, and some times more late i do competition with some friends and my analoge met det always make the difference to some digital much more modern ... For the amazement of my friends. They Joke always said that i tunning my device, nice to see you feel the same about your Nexus. Big hug from Holland, nice channel.
Along with my Legend, EQ900, Deus 1, and several others, I still use a Tesoro Tejon. Not only does it still find things the others miss but it's very nice to not have an addictive screen to stare at. It's nice to be able to use the good old organic optical scanners for surface finds. I'm very interested in your upcoming videos with the Nexus.

Congratulations on the purchase of a new detector! I've been following you for a long time and I know how much you wanted it. Have fun and I wish you a good signal!
This was a great vlog Going against the grain is what an inquisitive person does and you are showing us that wanting to learn is what life is about Thanks for the lesson Tomorrow is my first go at MD I'm camping next to a beach so tomorrow morning is legend day 1
Analog is the basic detector I use. I use a golden mask 4 made in Bulgaria where the exploration areas are extremely difficult. The equipment works great. I can easily compete with the users of the latest detectors. The most important feature of this equipment is fantastic audio. Yes Yes. The treasure hunt game is mostly audio, not numbers on the display. Good luck with your new hardware. You'll see how much it changes when you listen to it.
I'm fascinated by this machine. It does seem to require more patience with the machine itself, but it clearly works well when the wrinkles are ironed out. Great video!
I have been enjoying your channel and feel very happy for you for getting your new toy. I have to thank you for showing us this analog monster detector. I have been using a bounty hunter mark 4 for 5 years and bought a legend 6 months ago. Thanks John , Toronto Canada
Merrill, you are such a great teacher, even if I didn't metal detect I would still watch your videos. I believe that I have never listened to a person talking that is so easy to listen to as your voice Merrill. Keep making these videos and I will keep watching. I can't wait untell your next video.
Analog detectors are great. I used a cz-6a at orchard beach from 1990 until 2005 did great with it. I would go as deep as 15” to 18” and with silver half as deep as 20” specially in the winter after a nor’easter. Loved the cz-6a. They broke it to a summer place I have in florida and it was stolen. I miss the unit. I now have a nox 800 and yesterday got the monticore. Tell the mol3 Andy said hello.
It seems everyone is buying the same detectors but I’m more in agreement with the idea of diversifying different types and brands. This is what sets you or i apart from the others whether it may be good or bad.I personally think it’s great to see a wide range of different detectors to choose between. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Merrill, great videos. Back in the 70s I used to have a detector called Arado 120b, this was a non-motion detector, single frequency and was a killer on hammered silver and gold coins but hard to use. It's a shame they are not still about.
Hi Merril, In the video a lot of your signals were screaming implying that they were close to the surface. When you go out with the mega coil try going on quieter at ground (not a noisy Park). Maybe a civil war location. Also dig a hole 15 inches deep to see what it sounds like, like in the video where he finds a roman coin, his signal is longer and smoother. I would also take along your nox to double check the targets and in my opinion it's the fastest way of learning a deep machine and it will teach you what mega deep targets sound like on the nox as well. I can't wait to see the next video. Happy hunting Cleggy
I am embarrassed to say that I have a Sovereign GT with a broken shaft laying around. I have been meaning to replace the shaft for years. Apologies to @DavidFrazier who I know is going to read this! 😂
I still find plenty of gold with my GT.Looking to pick up another one but it seems the guys that still own them just can’t part with them.I have two,one with a 6” and the other with a 10”coil.
Always enjoy your videos. I would like to see both this and the 800 going over the same targets. Maybe I have completely missed the point here, but I think the 800 would have found most of the same targets with less chance of a piercing headache by the time your done. 😂
Glad you are doing some coverage of analog detectors. The Nexus has some neat features.coils are huge . You should try to get ahold of Deeptech detectors . Backwoods detectors sell them . The Vista X. And the Vista Smart plus . Two true analogs . There coils are normal size. 7”-10” size . These are sleeper detectors.
Man brother your brave taking your new nexus there to a park lol I own 2 and the first time I used it was in a forest and that was with a smaller coil as I hit to many targets in my local searched out park with my standard coil and ended up buying a smaller 7khz coil for park hunting that hit deep and the larger coil for forests and pasture or plough. You did well getting the ground Balence quite good on your first try buddy. Get used to that detector and it will never cease to amaze you 😊 I have the Credo and MK2 and a total of 6 coils. I love them both :)
The fact your willing to dig everything increases the chances of finding left behind signals, which with a multi frequency machine, your are more and likely to just leave those on the fence signals. I find that the simplex requires me to dig on the fence tones more often than not, which usually gives me some good surprises...but is a graft at times lol
Well done Merrill on the silver! Great video and nice where you use different detectors, it's winter here so it's rather cold... Yes my excuse not too get out on the Auckland beaches.. Slack I know!! Thanks for sharing, always enjoy your video's.
At the end of the day that's your job Merrill so thankyou for show up this Nexus detector,as I see only a modest number of detectorist will buy that kind of machine.
Love the LCD on this machine but the squawky noise it throws out would give you a monumental head ache in use and manual ground balancing is also a pain. As you said in a previous episode the plug and play nature of new multi frequency detectors makes use so much easier I would use these than a few more inches in depth. Love the channel 👍
Dude! You're killing me passing up all those hits! 😅 Are you going to try the beach with the Nexus? It would be a bummer if the coil at least wasn't waterproof.
congrats to your new toy and welcome to the club of the nexus owners... as i got the former flagship modell i cant really say much about yours aside one thing... always take some replacement akkus or batteries with you cause when the batterie power goes down so does the deepth so i learned to take 2 more fresh akku sets with me as soon as they are down to half i exchange the akkus greetings from bavaria
Hey Merrill, I'm really leaning towards buying one of these. Can you put up some more videos of you using it? I'm thinking of using it in some high iron properties I have access to. TIA
Good finds. Get a shoulder support belt. You can make fun of your friends by following them and finding things they missed. With the other coil you will have to dig 2 feet holes.
I think maybe when you try a new detector you should bring your regular detector and when you find a signal go over it with your regular detector, before you dig it , and see if the new one was better or you just missed it last time you detected. how else can you be sure the new one was better?
Yes - would be very keen to see a comparison with both the Manticore and the 900 - target for target. Whilst we’re there; might as well test the Deus as well 😅!
Cheers Merrill! I have a question, is the sensitivity/depth detection range on this machine related to the volume setting? I am asking for someone who is sound sensitive that is interested in the hobby. Or are you familiar with any machines that can run in a silent mode that also have the colour bar for target ID. Thank you in advance. Great vid and best of luck out there!👍🤟
Hey man ! I love your channel. I'm still without a modern detector. Virgin land is the key. I'm not out too much but still dig 1600s with my ace. You talked me into a new Nokta. Can't wait and gonna feel bad how much I left behind. I don't do the ocean. Just old colonial land and a small 1880s spot in SI
My 1st comment here. I have been following your channel for a long time. I am excited that you finally have the V3! Been looking at this one for years. Stick with this instrument, I bet we will all be impressed. Question: What type and size of coils did you get?
Amazing video, this absolutely validated my decision to buy one of these in the future. Love having different machines to play around with. I use my Pi machine to coin hunt with and its the best on low conductors in iron. Whites tdi you can manipulate the ground balance turn it on low conductor only and see through the thickest patches.

@@MetalDetectingNYC hey thanks for answering me Ok you cant be an expert in one day but you did great because even the ground ballancing is tricky but you will get there good luck 🙂
Unless you use it side-by-side with a newer multi-frequency detector, on the same signals, you haven’t shown much. Ground balance seems like a pain in the butt.
I’d put money that a Garrett AT Max could find those targets. On a side note, I’ve been watching for a while, but I don’t get the Sushi and Hagendaz references. Care to explain?
Go joe! Hell yeah Merrill that detector is sick dude 😎 we ever going to get the Dowsing video? Wicked detector can’t wait to see the China coil do so damage. Cobra!
@MetalDetectingNYC Thanks for you're hard work and information.I can't metal detect any more due to my injuries from an auto accident.I can detect with you vicariously through your amazing videos.
That's not analog tec, Its sounds like a PI , The Fisher AQ operates the same, I would use it at the beach on the slope & low tide, To get maximum depth you have to run No Disc, That's PI Technology for land

True, but I don't see the price reflected in the performance. It's ok, I guess, if you want to minimize false negatives, but it seems way too twitchy.

Ok you cant be an expert in one day but you did great because even the ground ballancing is tricky but you will get there good luck 🙂
Reminds me of hunting with a PI machine. Everything sounds the same Dig it all!
Yes, you get a color scale for target ID.
That wired little thingy you think is iron around silver is a mini hearing aid battery.
Another great video . Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Will you review the Fisher Impulse AQ ? 23:15 - Not a wheelbarrow, but most certainly a spinning wheel.
That one is definitely on my radar. Perhaps when I get to 40,000 subscribers.
Go joe! Hell yeah Merrill that detector is sick dude 😎 we ever going to get the Dowsing video?
Wicked detector can’t wait to see the China coil do so damage. Cobra!
Great old charm bracelet i love it!!❤
Thank you! I was kind of geeking out with the wheelbarrow. I asked my kids what a wheelbarrow is and they looked at me like 😕....
Exciting stuff! Amazing you learned the unit so quickly. What are the high pitch tones at the end of each swing that you ignore?
Still run my vaquero and just picked up a gm2
That detector looks like a pain in the butt ! Like going back to the 80’s .
Buenos días compañero, no es un remache es una pila de botón
Un saludo desde España
Great video. That round object wouldn't be a button battery would it?
They'll be coming out with radar/sonar or lydar metal detectors pretty soon.
My bet is drone. But I hope YOU are right!
@MetalDetectingNYC Thanks for you're hard work and information.I can't metal detect any more due to my injuries from an auto accident.I can detect with you vicariously through your amazing videos.
It was a chrome plated brass cup washer😮
Keep your eyes on this brand, as new detectors are expected, but don't know when.
Introducing...The Nexus Crater Creator with MP V3 Backhoe Extractor!
The Tesoro metal detectors had pretty good iron discrimination.
LOVE YOUR CONTENT
Merrill
Thank you!!!
That's not analog tec, Its sounds like a PI , The Fisher AQ operates the same, I would use it at the beach on the slope & low tide, To get maximum depth you have to run No Disc, That's PI Technology for land
*Wow Merril, now you make me miss my two Tesoro’s and pick up a new Nexus haha!* 🤣💪
Cool test buddy
