Certainly glad he’s recovered now. That’s scary, and absolutely terrifying for his wife. Thank goodness she acted fast. She quite literally saved his life.
I know exactly what Mark is saying, in 2018 my wife went into septic shock 3 days after cancer surgery, what she told me when I thought she was in a coma was amazing, just a bit of it she thought me and her were in a horse trailer and I had to do certain tasks to get us released, she woke up on day 6 in ICU, she said to her the Doctors and Nurses were trying to suffocate her, what really happened she was put on a Bipap and she loathed that thing, she was constantly trying to pull it off and I had to keep it on her, it was the scariest 5 days I went thru, its amazing what the brain will do.
Mark is an amazing person! I bought a tug from them and had an issue with mine. I called their number and he answered the phone and we discussed the problem. It was a pleasant surprise that he was taking the calls. Those of us that are truly bitten by the flying bug understand the passion the Patey's put into inspiring others with aviation. I'm glad Mark came out ok and I look forward to seeing him inspire the younger generation with aviation. Keep up the good work, there are many of us like minded aviators that are inspired as well. Great interview.
@@HiddenWindshield Part of the challenge in creating content and thumbnails and titles is that it's easy to forget not everyone knows/or has watched everything I have. So Mark died but was brought back, and I forget that not everyone has watched Mike and Marks video about that. So I simply titled it "Mark Patey Died". I often bounce titles off of friends and this one was no diffferent. None of us saw the negative response coming, but in hindsight totally agree that it was wrong. I changed it as soon as I saw the outcry (about 37 minutes into the release).
I know from experience, that when your body dies, you don’t die, and the ability to feel other people’s emotions is incredibly strong. I’m glad Mark returned to his “meat sack” to continue to be a blessing to his family and the rest of the world.
10 years ago at work I suddenly puked in the trash basket. Throat feeling weird. I sent a note to folks saying I wasn't feeling well and going home. I took some allergy medicine to sleep, had some hot lemonade...and it got worse. I drove to the local ER and could barely breath. First one guy asking questions, then three, the on the fourth attempt at a breathing tube there were 15 people in the room and I remember hearing a room-full of applause as I got a full breath and everything went dark. I remember what looked like a Sasquatch on a concrete floor and me drifting higher away. I woke up the next afternoon with my dad and a doctor beside me. 'Angioedema' in the fine print on Lisinopril-'I'd been taking the stuff for four+ years. If it had happened the previous weekend solo camping in Central Oregon I'd have died. Every day is your chance to smile at someone--make it happen!
I am glad that Mark is doing better. I don't recall if he said exactly what happened, for some reason I was thinking a massive infection, but I'm not sure about that. I don't know if he's a Christian, I hope that he is, but then again, I want that for everyone. Now, I do have a question, which didn't seem to get answered in either of the videos, and that is 'What's happened to his medical?' Does he still have a valid medical because of this, or did the FAA pull it, even temporarily? Sometimes we push ourselves so hard that we just seem to lose our vision of what needs to be done for us and for others, and I guess Mark kind of found his, but went a little too far the other way, so having Susie to be a backstop for him was probably a good thing. Anyway, I wish him the best and want to continue to hear good things about all of the Pateys. Both he and Mike are truly amazing individuals.
@@TakingOff the reason I asked was his comments about dying. If he had a cardiac arrest or other cario issues it could have been grounds for denial of his medical. Since I wasn't sure, I wanted to ask to find out the details, if I could. Needless to say, I'm glad that he has not lost his medical and that he can continue to fly . . . sorry Dan, I don't think you're going to end up Perry . . . and as I said, I wish him the best.
Been there.....Except for the NDE. Lost my mom and really no family to count on. Always trying to help everyone and encourage everyone. I have been through thick and thin and seen the worst and the best with very little money or anything to bring to the table. Been to Iraq in 2008. Been lied to by people in the Aviation community and flight schools. But it still keeps me wanting to change it for the better...So people don't want to deal with what I had to.
I got to meet Mark at SnF last week. Him and Mike have been a huge inspiration in my aviation career, so it was pretty cool to meet him. I wish I would have seen this before I met him. I would have liked to talk to him about some of this more.
met you out in Reno, so glad it was not your time and look forward to watching what you do in the future. "I have enough, I am enough" is such a powerful statement. words to live by for sure.
Even routine surgeries can have complications it happens this is why you have to follow doctors orders they will tell you if you have these symptoms like high fever you call their office or go to the ER right away. They likely tell you to go to the ER anyway it can be faster if the doctor calls ahead checks you in. Most of these cases like he is describing are because people ignore the symptoms and don't follow the directions of the doctors.
Excellent interview Dan. Mark is such a humble and amazing guy. I am thankful his time on the earth was not up. The Patey's are among the top influencers, along with Dan and Christy, that pushed me to pursue my life long dream to be a pilot. I did it, and I owe great thanks to all the people who influenced me to go for it. Mark, I believe God has shown you your purpose. I hope to shake your hand someday. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
I’m not gonna get all girly about the title but I just spent the last 20 min thinking something awful had happened to the Patey family because I saw the notification pop up and couldn’t stop working to actually watch. Kinda shitty, but I’m glad he’s alive!
I'm trying to get there myself more and more every day but Find the lord. Never hear you speak of it and you say it is maybe not real on the other side but I def want it to be real and just have to have faith. Glad you are ok. Love you guys and content.
Downvoted for the clickbait title. I was already familiar with this story, and thought something else had happened. Shame. Please insert _almost_ (or add for a few minutes, etc.) and we’re good. Edit: The original title was “Mark Patey Died …”
Maybe he saw one of the other 6,000 religions god. I’m guessing your assertion that he saw Jesus, is only based on the fact your god is Jesus? I am curious, how many other religions did you learn about before you decided on christianity? I am honestly curious, not trying to start a fight.
For the sake of research, he really should disclose his story, anonymously if needed, of what he experienced. There are plenty of data collectors eager for those stories. What happens when you die is essentially the most important question in life, and it walks hand in hand in how you live.
The video is great, so thank you for that. But there's a lesson here. I'd say, to you. Stay grounded, but that is detrimental to the endeavour. So, be mindful in the air and on the ground and in labelling. o7
I think I deserve it here. Didn't see this coming, and I dont want ANYTHING to detract from the message of the video. So I'll take the hits and learn and move on.
I’m going to send flowers to Mark Patey’s family offering my condolences and tell them I heard about Mark’s death from the UA-cam channel “Taking Off”. I bet they will really appreciate the flowers I send them.
Mark had e coli sepsis, which is what led to the emergency.
Certainly glad he’s recovered now. That’s scary, and absolutely terrifying for his wife. Thank goodness she acted fast. She quite literally saved his life.
"I have enough, I am enough" We'll said Mark. What an inspiration. Thank you for thous words!
As a firefighter and ems responder, we learn that when someone says "I'm dying" we take them at their word. Its too often real.

The Title is a little Heart Stopping.
Thanks for another great episode and happy to see Mark is doing well.
I did change it. Didn't mean to set people off.
@@TakingOff It was a little upsetting. But I hoped the sarcasm in my comment would have brought some relief?

Suggested title for the next interview with Mark:
"Dead man talking".

@Mark Patey "Finishing Stong" is a really good book, written by an American Author.
I love this kind of story.
Wow, what a great interview! Live the Psalm reference as I felt like the Christianity was being “danced around” during the interview.
I know two people who have been clinically dead and came back to life. Both said there’s nothing after we die.
