Fun times are ahead, so give a watch and dig in!

Its still weird we are looking at mai now, wont see SF6 mai until december(spoiler game awards yall), and yet SF6 mai will be playable months before cotw mai. What a world. Also theres gonna be a bunch of other footage going live soon elsewhere, if you see it and it looks a bit dark/washed out its cause there was a boo-boo and SNK recorded a bunch with HDR on by accident, I had to colour-correct all this footage to make it look "normal".
Curiously, it's something she's always done. As a kunoichi, she can create illusions (e.g. in the intro of the Nest Saga she creates illusory babies to scare Andy) and magically change her clothes (e.g. in the intro of kof97 she wears a wedding dress just before fighting to scare Andy ).
“Mai will be playable in SF6 before she’s playable in COTW.” It dawns on me how unique the launch of City of the Wolves is going to be. Still blows my mind that Capcom had the foresight with SNK to make Terry’s ending for SF6 be a teaser for upcoming DLC content for COTW. Even more so now that for all we know, this preview for Mai in COTW could be the same approach Capcom may take when she joins SF6 early next (albeit with some caveats since it isn’t like Terry has the ability to jump in from the background like he can in SF6). But yeah, for all we know, this could be how she will be approached for her guest appearance. That and it is nice that she has an anti air move that hopefully will appear in SF6 too. Either way, kind of fun to think that Terry’s and Mai’s is just them recruiting Ken and Chun-Li into appearing in COTW.
The damage tuning in this game seems so much more balanced than modern day fighters. I love strive to death but MOST games are over in 3 catches. Granblue's damage is slightly better but the pressure game CAN be oppressive and the game is highly momentum based. It's nice to see some moderate damage numbers in a new fighter.
I can't get over how good this looks. I couldn't see how good KOF XV looked until I saw it in person for myself but with CoTW it is immediately apparent. I'm beyond excited
I really hope each character has alternate costumes in the full game by release next year. Thousands of dollars will be spent on Mai's classic costume alone.
Honestly, thing that I’m liking the most of FF:COTW is the artstyle! Like Hi-Fi Rush, it’s unique! Colors pop! And more importantly very clear for those who use correction glasses like me!

And Yes, one of the versions of Mai in 98 had a DP and I’m so glad to see that they gave it back to her. I love that move so much. Edit: She has Fan Slice back to Let’s Freaking Goooooo.

Mai's old outfit is a classic but this looks good on her. Still a little too basic imho but she makes it work 😅 The biggest issue is that her fan makes no sense with it so it feels more like a dlc outfit than a default.
Something I genuinely love about the Fighting Game genre is that alot of its developers really care for the other games from franchises that aren't their own and many of them work with each other out of respect and the fact that they are fans themselves and its so cool that the Street Fighter devs are clearly wanting to make sure COTWs does as well as it can with all these collabs and more Harada is also well known for putting in work for other games because all these guys actually want the genre to thrive which is something pretty rare for most genres to have.
The fan slice coming back is pretty dope and her being able to break her super??? Now THATS interesting because the combo potential and maybe making moves safe is insane.

Man, reveals and coverage for this game is feeling like a weird fever dream for the last week or two especially with the reveal of Cristiano Ronaldo going to be a playable character in City of the Wolves somehow and now the reveal at Tokyo Games Show 2024 that Ken and Chun Li will be coming to City of the Wolves. On top of SF6 with Terry and Mai plus the Capcom vs SNK collection coming next year. This has got to be one of the most weirdest and exciting times for SNK and Capcom. Capcom vs SNK 3 reveal feels like it coming in a few months from now.

She moves like she's still waring that tail thing and whipping it around. Without it, it looks off balanced or heavy or something. I don't know. Maybe I'm just used to it. Having it come out of nowhere without a source after the first hit landed eons ago just throws it all off for me.

You probably already noticed this, but I feel like this bears mentionining for people watching who are unfamiliar with feint cancels in MotW/the Real Bout series. Especially for Mai, cause she looks like she has a bunch of really good feint-cancellable moves in CotW (df+B slide, cr.C, cl.C, cl.D, wonder if you can feint cancel her sweep as well?).
I've been seeing that Fanta flame effect from KOF creeping in CotW latelly. I've been praising CotW art direction, but now they moved into a wrong direction, in my opinion. Also, have they toned down or outright removed the screentone shader? I liked that shader. It looks less comic book-ish now and more everything else-like.

Me too! I've read some comments they toned down her sex appeal, but besides wearing less reavealing clothes, she still is very sexy. Look at her body, her poses, her animations. I think they did a great job, she is looking amazing. MK needs to learn from japanese devs! There is nothing wrong in making women look beatiful.

Also, have they toned down or outright removed the screentone shader? I liked that shader. It looks less comic book-ish now and more everything else-like.

I hope this game does well. I'm hopeful so far given they have smartly been trying to get some mainstream appeal with the collabs but this game looks really cool so i dont want it to get buried.

Me too! I've read some comments they toned down her sex appeal, but besides wearing less reavealing clothes, she still is very sexy. Look at her body, her poses, her animations. I think they did a great job, she is looking amazing. MK needs to learn from japanese devs! There is nothing wrong in making women look beatiful.

@@johkerx9107 Her OG Costume won't be selectable option sadly. its only durring her ult hidden gear aniamtion, when she has her OG Costume for a verry short amount of time. They really dropped the ball on this one 😞
