Thanks, Dan, for the great review!! Very excited to add this to my collection upon release! It's a better implementation of the game and a more fitting theme. Plus, Renegade always does an amazing job with components and design. Thanks again Dan!!
I think I like the stark contrast between regions in Heartland compared to Gunkimono’s. In that version also players would talk about potato or corn fields while here it’s all about colors. Kind of detracts from the theme. I need to play this version to make sure this is an upgrade.
Gunkimono means War Tales and the colors identify your type of troops. You have Infantry, Samurai, Cavalry, Spearman and Archer. And you are using them to increase areas and Strongholds. I think it makes sense.
Kure M. Oh it does, but not by looking at the board. All people will refer to is the colors: “this blue region scores 6..., you ruined my yellow region...”, not about placing spearman. In Heartland players always refer to the fields by the type of vegetable/root in the field.
Well, I guess that's up to the players then. There's a guy on a horse, guys with bows and arrows, katanas or spears. I prefer naming them, but maybe you and your friends prefer vegetables over troops and that's fine. :P
I really don’t like how they all look the same except the colour. The original are different veggies which makes it way easier to see and separate areas. I wish they kept the farming land with veggies TBH.
I either play a rule incorrectly, of you kept skipping one of red's points for the Samurai stronghold. You were only counting the tiles that had been played and skipped the printed place on the board. My understanding is that all of the spots would score.
I am so excited... I probably won't own this one, as I own Heartland and it's a favorite of my family's, but I am excited for others to get access to this great game. I do like the changes though, so I may end up picking it up.

Lol.. I prefer the troops! But I'm afraid in this version the general tendency will be to name colors.
Oh wow I literally just commented the same thing. Totally agree.

reminds me tigris and Euphrates in a way, i just afraid that the pictures make ppl hard to see the levels of the tile
