I thank you so much, for spending your time for making this video! I went with the Mitutoyo based on your opinion, because I'm in Europe... Best comparison of bore gages on the whole internet! Thx, Marlon
Can you please make a vid on how to use these and how to get the proper feel. Seems like my feel is always tight. Especially qhen using a micrometer. Any tips, or visual tricks would be an appropriated gem for me!
Very useful video. I was wondering when setting up the gauge, how do you align the back to the micrometer? Because the wheels will be riding on the wall of the bore which is round so the distance on the wheels will be different from the centre, depending also on the radius of the bore.
Great video. For youngins who are new to the trade I would highly suggest adding your clearance to the piston measurement and zero the gauge with the 0 on the 12:00 position. Seems easier mentally to hit a dead zero than to his say 2.5 over. Visually you can more easially identify how close or far you are from your final dimension.
Thanks for the comment. This is how a lot of shops do it. It's how I was taught 25 years ago. Both methods work. I prefer knowing where zero is and honing my clearance. That being said It's personal preference both ways are correct. And at this point, I wouldn't change for fear of making a mistake. It's ingrained in me.
@EricksonMachinePerformance if you don't mind a question. I'm sitting here staring at a mitutoyo (I'm a fanboy) dial bore gauge with a resolution of one tenth. And a starret with a resolution of half thou. I'm using bosses sunnen and it's half thou. However, if given the opportunity to be just that bit more accurate.... I'm torn on what to buy lol.
@calebmichie2854 honest answer is you kind of need both. I use a starret , sunnen and mitutoyo. I like them all. Now you can buy 1 and just change the dial indictor ( way cheaper ) or have 2 so you have an extra. I like them all for different reasons. If you want email you your # and I'll be happy to give you my opinion and each. Ericksonmap@gmail.com
I'm not a youngin but definitely a newbie in the realm of measuring tight clearances. Just wanted to thank you for the advice as this sounds simpler. I just bought a Fowler set and I have been measuring all types of stuff with all size bores and holes! The hardest thing for me is getting the proper feel and my confidence!
I just need to edit the video. Sorry we have been backed up with work and it's been hard to get free time to edit videos. I'm trying my best to put out a video or 2 a week from now on 🤞 I have over 50 videos filmed. I just need time to edit them
The most crucial tool in an engine building arsenal! Nice explanation and nice selection.
Thank you.

Most critical measurements and tolerances! Precision instruction!! Thank you*****

The bore gage is set between the contact points that are in the center. The wheels only center the tool in the hole.
@@EricksonMachinePerformance Thanks!
I just made a quick UA-cam short showing this for you

@@EricksonMachinePerformance That's awesome, thanks!
@pierrefpv Great comment! Thanks for watching and commenting. Asking questions is the way to learn!
Nice video,I have z Fowler that reads .0005 increments, can i just switch out the dial indicator for one that reads .00001 increments?
Good rundown, should drop some part numbers of the tools you were reviewing 🤙🏼
Great idea. I'll add them to the description
Good video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Great video!!! Lots of great information!!!
Glad it was helpful!

thanks,,,i use 1 tape measure when even working on a wood project
👍
Say the bore gauge 7th from the left I think is either a Dorsey or a Standard if I'm correct what you think about them?
@blazer8049 they work great without issue. They aren't my favorite, but they do the job
