    They neglect to mention that beach sand used in the construction industry for many ,many years is changing the water levels we currently see.They use millions of tons of sand in everything from sidewalks,highways,skyscrapers,hospitals,homes,and all kinds of construction.They can't use desert sand because it's not the same type needed.

    So this video was produced in 2008 and it is more honest than programmes being made now with less and less frequency. The 'don't look up' syndrome is really a thing. Very good summary of a very bad situation for California which has only grown worse by 2022.

    i live in ruidoso new mexico, it's considered high desert. water is valuable here . i totally believe we can all conserve water without changing our lives. i paid $3500.00 for my truck but it runs just fine when dirty. i rarely wash it. grass doesn't exist here but pleanty of plants do. simple thing add up but govt once again gets involved and ruins things. because i use water sparingly govt is killing me. the water co says im hurting their business by using less water, so govt steps in and approves a rate hike. i now pay twice what i use. is that fair for my neighbor to water his lawn and wash his car every couple days and pay what i do? it's just wrong to stop people from doing the right thing.

    The best way to cool things off is to stop dewatering inland areas and dumping runoff and treated water into the ocean. Desalinate fill up every Lake Creek stream or body of water and things will start to cool off.

    Rivers occur where the impervious bedrock forces the groundwater to the surface.
    Threes reach down to the groundwater and lift the water up, making dew that sustain the plants with shallow root systems and thus recycle a large segment of the world's fresh water reserve.
    An unaccounted for influence on the level of the ocean is the loss of ground water due to deforestation.

      Yes but when California weather started getting drier 120 years ago, a botanist looked at the tree rings and told them to move out. California is prone to 200 years droughts, and he said in 100 years, it will be too dry to farm! So, the government implemented plans to build huge reservoirs to store water, but that was shut down in the 50s because it was inviromently un friendly.

    I don't know if the guy at 13:00 is still working for the city, but his department must be ignoring the new development of big office complexes at the waters edge in South San Francisco and Burlingame. I've lived here all my life(50 years). The brand new office building structures they are constructing in Burlingame, CA which is right next to the SF airport, do not have any new barriers to withstand a 4 foot rise in the ocean level. the shoreline across the street from those structures are exactly the same as when I was kid fishing there. just piles of busted up concrete. Nothing new or sophisticated measures. So why would I want to pay taxes to these fricken california politicians who's actions/words really only "sound" good, but have no effect on the reality of business, economics, and way of life? The climate is always changing.

    Q: Would LBNL pay for the land?
    A: Alameda would provide the land to LBNL at no cost. This keeps the city competitive with propos.als from other finalists. The long-term economic benefits to the city from having Second Campus located at Alameda Point lend credence to gifting the land, rather than selling it

    9:00 'tide pools have been studied by scientists for a hundred years'.I beg to differ. Greek philosophers were studying them 2000 years ago. In fact, it was the beginning of biological sciences but it was 1800 years before Darwin had the categorical tools-and freedom from religious indoctrination-to achieve a proper understanding of natural selection and movement of species. Maybe the post statement was meaning of US tide pools.?

    • @bookbeing
      @bookbeing 2 роки тому +1

      yes! The leadership is ridiculously dense I don't know why this doesn't even come up in conversation. they wouldn't even need to desalinate the water if they replenish like the great salt Lake and salt and sea they could just replenish it with ocean water. I said this for years if they're that worried about our ocean levels why do they keep dumping our wastewater into the ocean and our storm water into the ocean? pipe it somewhere inland maybe to the farmers for example I'm sure they'd be happy with that and grocery bills would probably be less as more food would be grown locally.

    I was VERY disappointed in this presentation. While it does touch on many things we as Americans can do to improve in a wide variety areas it ignores totally others.
    Just one of the most stark examples of this is this.
    What are we, and the rest of the western world doing to pressure the Chinese to do something to reduce their release of carbon & many, many other pollutants? ? What the US does each year does not begin to offset the rapidly increased releases of the Chinese. We make our own industries ever less competitive, while the Chinese reap their ever growing profits while offering only lip service in regards to lowering THEIR emissions.
    Until other nations get on board with making equal efforts to make reductions in carbon & other emissions our efforts to slow/prevent "Climate Change" is a illusion.

Do you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and blow kisses? Don't be so arrogant to think this is settled science, and everyone is wrong but you and those who agree with you. We really don't know shit, we have theories, but we know nothing. We have dinosaur skeletons /fossils littered across this whole planet, and i believe Dinosaurs are reptiles. Reptiles don't like the cold, yet they are found far up the northern hemisphere. Must have been a little warmer, eh Einstein? Our little blip on the historical timescale is too small to figure in.

      When the ocean warns up it puts more moisture in the air, so if then when one place gets dry another gets wet. Ocean level rise has not occurred now like it has on the past, for example the ocean level has risen 400feet in the past 4000 years, that is 10 feet in 100 years and we are expected to be exited over .015 " in 50 years?

    • @rminhas4549
      @rminhas4549 4 роки тому

      Joe Defreece do you have a source for that 400’ rise in sea level over the last 4,000 years? As well, a lot of the rise in the last 15,000 years or so is due to glacial melt from the last ice age. And lastly, what are you inferring by the first statement regarding dryness and wetness ?

    • @saftabracha1140
      @saftabracha1140 5 років тому

      SHEISTER CAM it’s not for man to decide on population growth ,if one believes in annihilating people so there would be more food etc ,and less of other things whatever they may be. Doesn’t have faith in the Creator !,because all that exists comes from Him.He decides who has children and how many ,without His intervention there would not be you He decides who will be childless. The only thing we man are responsible for is our behavior ,for all the things that are happening everywhere ,all the changes in weather patterns etc. the only way it will be changed if we all change and respect and honor people and all of the things that exist. On earth 🌏we need to change our ideology and recognize that there is someone who created all things that exist ,a Master planner !, we are supposed to be the caretakers of everything around us ,no one and nothing else except the Most High G-D creator of all existence will change things according to our behavior .The only thing we need to change is us ,as I said we do not have the power to change anything . We can plant and sow but G-D Has His messengers to watch over everything. Our efforts definitely count .please if you are going to tell me that there is no G-D then don’t reply because you then don’t exist you would be a figment of the imagination. I don’t want to turn this into a book so it’s short and simple. I think I already know your answer. Just don’t thank you.

Yes, methane is a larger part of global warming, no matter the time of the climate cycles. We have only begun to understand, and need to be careful with assumptions and actions.

    California's politicians will have to begin actively maintaining the forestland. Brush and dead trees will need to be disposed of. The combustibles on the forest floors burn faster, hotter, and can light the trees off as fire spreads. Cleaning up the forest floor would greatly reduce the acreage lost to forest fires. Of course the tree lovers will have to give up wild forests because not doing so will result in no forests at all.

    • @jrcowles86

      We need to have natural forest management through proscribed burns--the natural method of forest rejuvenation in the arid Southwest, not clear-cut timber harvesting as the conservatives are pushing for, which tends to permanently destroy forests.
