Growing up I was taught that if you had a full time job you'd be able to afford to live and have a place of your own even if you were making just minimum wage. The fact that a single person has to make close to $100,000 a year in order to afford living comfortably in the Bay Area is the real disaster.
Thanks for laying the issue out there and what is your ideas for us to fix that problem. I think we should build up like in Japan and stop the spread of building single family homes, your thoughts?

@@rogermartinez78 They're gonna have to come to grips with developing areas that aren't developed now. Large parts of the bay area have been off limits.
Not really, we need to change the zoning laws to build more high rise apartments and condos. We can’t continue building single family homes indefinitely.
@@rogermartinez78 The homelessness explosion isn't caused by a lack of housing, it is caused by overpricing. The fact is that the cost of living in California is 38% higher than the national average. Housing is 97% higher. Utilities is 24% higher. Groceries and clothing are both 10% higher. Building more unaffordable condos and apartments isn't going to help middle class and low income households make ends meet and be able to afford a roof over their heads.
The good news is the bay area has a lot more birds than it used to have. Ever since the military left and the heavy industries left the wildlife has really come back strongly. We only had pigeons and seagulls back in the seventies but now there are cormorants pelicans and a bunch of other marsh birds little and big around the bay. The water is clearer. The air is cleaner. Really it's a little success story.
It's the saddest thing ever to watch this place fall apart and we won't do ANYTHING about it. This whole thing was on a fine balance that is destroyed. I keep wondering when the food supply will suffer from all this heat. ......2 years left!!!??
Pretty sad we are leaving a mess for our kids. Beside the massive suburban sprawl into the valleys, wine vines are a toxic huge monoculture that has destroyed much of the trees, bushes, grasses and natural habitat for birds, butterflies, and other wild animals.

The United States is the largest source of historic CO2 emissions in total. Combine that with our gluttonous consumption on a per Capita basis and no nation can touch us. China’s emissions exceed ours, but 1/3 of their CO2 is from manufacturing. Guess who is the largest importer of Chinese Goods - it’s the Good Old US of A. I doubt anyone has done the calculations, but I’d bet that the Bay Area might be responsible for more GHG’s than any other part of the US. CO2 is highly correlated with wealth. Transportation is the number one cause of emissions for SFBA, CA, US. We should be tearing down freeways, fully funding transit, and putting bike lanes on every bridge. Merchant corridors should be car-free. Change or perish.
Optimistic. Decades? No, sorry. Years, maybe. Change by people? Not going to happen. It's been fun tho', right? Well, for humans. The rest of life, not so much. As long as we have an economic structure that depends on continuous growth, we'll keep marching toward failure. The actual fundamental that is relevant is that energy and materials are necessary to provide products and services. Do energy and materials replenish at the rate of consumption? Lol, no. Neglecting the second order effects of the waste products and process of acquiring energy and materials, the whole concept of continuous GDP growth ad infinitum is a fairytale. Is there any serious societal move to address this? Lol, no. We're in for some serious shit.

Much discussion about wildfires is centred on the damage to properties but surely it is essential to consider the destruction of wildlife habitat and forest ecosystems. The consequences of climate breakdown are not just a crisis that affects human interests and business profits, it is causing massive losses in biodiversity and pushing many species toward extinction. We share this planet with millions of other species, our interests alone are not the only consideration. We caused this crisis and some may point out that we knew as long ago as the late 19th Century that our activities would lead to global warming due to the release of CO2. We certainly had very strong data by the mid 20th Century that CO2 emissions were such that the climate would warm if we continued as we had. Warnings were, in some cases, intentionally disregarded or subject to a concerted campaign of denialism. Many people are making very positive changes in their lifestyle but those who do not switch to sustainable energy use, do not stop burning stuff and eating a meat based diet remain complicit in perpetuating this crisis

Man loves his/her convinces! They don't want to be hot, and they don't want to be cold, and they don't want to have to pick their own genetically altered fruits and veggies. They want to drive to the supper market and get it all packaged and wrapped in plastic and placed on sterofoam trays, and carried home in plastic bags which all goes into their plastic garbage bags, taken to their outside plastic trash can, carted away by a big gas guzzling truck, to a place, somewhere, deposited there, and then what happens to all that garbage?? Who knows? Does anyone even care?

The Modi government has taken several steps to address climate change, including: 1. *Net-zero emissions target* : India has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the COP26 summit in Glasgow. 2. *Renewable energy targets* : The government has set ambitious renewable energy targets, including 500GW of renewable energy capacity, and has announced plans to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. 3. *Mission Innovation* : India is a founding member of "Mission Innovation," a global initiative to accelerate the clean energy revolution and achieve the Paris Agreement goals. 4. *Green GDP* : Prime Minister Modi has suggested the concept of green GDP, which takes into account the environmental consequences of economic activities. 5. *Climate-friendly policies* : The government has announced several climate-friendly policies, including a rooftop solar scheme, electric vehicle manufacturing, and biofuel production. 6. *International cooperation* : India has played a key role in international climate negotiations, including the Paris Agreement and the G20 Summit, and has called for global cooperation to address climate change.
Preparing for sea level rise, Port of San Francisco plans: 2 feet lift by 2050, 7 feet lift by 2100. Those elevations are about twice early IPCC estimates for sea level rise, which indicate a cautious approach. However, IPCC estimates are heavily affected by political influences that have been conservative. If the estimates are inaccurate, and many climate models predict substantially larger rises which are supported by unanticipated changes that continue to be observed, then the effort could be insufficient to address sea level rise. Yes, the effort costs money. Maybe responding with incremental change will prove cost effective. I hope so, though I have grave doubts.

As long as this video is telling us the future(!) why have they completely ignored the ever increasing carbon taxes collected by governments? Isn't all that money supposed to fix the climate? Why isn't THAT data not highlighted since, after all, that is marketed as the solution to climate change?
They probably didn't mention it for the obvious reason - the U.S. doesn't have a carbon tax. And in countries where they do have a carbon tax, it's working.
Its called a carbon fee and divident (the socially just way to price carbon) and a border adjustment, to bring the rest of the world along. We all share the same atmosphere.

If Democrat, politicians are so concerned with the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere, then why is it That they allow anyone who builds in any of their cities to cut down all of the trees and replace it with asphalt or concrete? Large conifer trees are the absolute best way to absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide. Instead of this , they will give government grants to anyone who wants to build a ridiculous billion dollar carbon capture machine. Democrats are clear cutting forests so that they can build massive solar panel farms. Any of these solar panels built in deserts require billions of dollars worth of copper covered with crude oil byproducts to deliver this minimal amount of supplemental electricity. It also requires a massive amount of electrical grid equipment that costs a lot more than the electricity delivered is worth. You're wasting our time and money. Nuclear powerplanrs and coal fired powerplants deliver many more megawatts way more often for a lot less money and manpower hours. STOP WASTING OUR MONEY!!!!

the bay area has built up a lot and looking from the air there has been a huge jump in the square footage of solar panels when are heat collectors and thus change the weather as a result - small changes add up over years.
Utter nonsense The latest (AR6) report from IPCC Working Group I (the science working group) could not identify any global trends in extreme weather events, though this statement in the body of the report did not make it into the "Summary for Policy Makers" - a politically (but not scientifically) approved document which appears to drive policy. Few people actually read the full text of the 3 Working Group reports (I have) so significant findings are missed by the mainstream media, Extreme weather events have always been with us, but though the costs of some events have been rising, much of that cost is down to building expensive infrastructure in places where it (and increasing populations) should not have been allowed. When corrected for population density and GDP, costs are not actually increasing. No individual extreme weather event can be attributed to "climate change" when "climate" is normally regarded as a 30-year average of "weather". Most extreme events can be attributed to local coincidence of natural phenomena such as the Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation - which explains why the frequency and intensity of Atlantic hurricanes is at present on a declining trend - or the Pacific El Nino Southern Oscillation with its known influences on weather both sides of the Pacific. There are many other influences elsewhere leading to extreme events, but global mean temperature does not seem (according to the data) to be one of them.
- We live in the same climate as it was 5 million years ago and the cancer will go away - I have an explanation regarding the cause of the climate change and global warming, it is the travel of the universe to the deep past since May 10, 2010. Each day starting May 10, 2010 takes us 1000 years to the past of the universe. Today May 25, 2024 the state of our universe is the same as it was 5 million and 129 thousand years ago. On october 13, 2026 the state of our universe will be at the point 6 million years in the past. On june 04, 2051 the state of our universe will be at the point 15 million years in the past. On june 28, 2092 the state of our universe will be at the point 30 million years in the past. On april 02, 2147 the state of our universe will be at the point 50 million years in the past. The result is that the universe is heading back to the point where it started and today we live in the same climate as it was 5 million years ago. Not close to 100k, it's minimum 100k and if you want to own a home 200K minimum thanks to big tech
But it's not falling apart because of climate change.

Pretty sad we are leaving a mess for our kids. Beside the massive suburban sprawl into the valleys, wine vines are a toxic huge monoculture that has destroyed much of the trees, bushes, grasses and natural habitat for birds, butterflies, and other wild animals.

It's wild that a very small percentage of earth's population are responsible for the continuation of its destruction.
They are going to be the cause our very own extinction
It's not a small percentage though, they're just more responsible. The human race has been accumulating damage for centuries. Pitch is crude oil, they just don't tell you. The stuff they used in, "Braveheart" was crude oil.🛢

We had the Perfect Paradise, but we used and abused it because we could. And now people can't believe that ALL life is going to suffer for what we have done.
What are you talking about? The world is in the best place it's ever been.
Not true, the world may end for humans but life has always carried on with or without us-tardigrades survived 5 mass extinction events, what's another measly 6?

As long as we have an economic structure that depends on continuous growth, we'll keep marching toward failure. The actual fundamental that is relevant is that energy and materials are necessary to provide products and services. Do energy and materials replenish at the rate of consumption? Lol, no. Neglecting the second order effects of the waste products and process of acquiring energy and materials, the whole concept of continuous GDP growth ad infinitum is a fairytale. Is there any serious societal move to address this? Lol, no. We're in for some serious shit.

I am in awe that there are so many people in the comments that actually believe climate change is not a thing. Oh the bliss of denial…
My father grew up there in the 30s onward and it's gotten warmer as the years have gone by. I've noticed the same since attending college in the early 90s to now, it's definitely warmer. I really miss that fog SF used to have
I moved to the northern oregon coast 5years ago after 37 years in the bay. I noticed the change in climate before leaving. What surprised me after meeting new friends and neighbors on the O Coast many lament the change in weather, less fog and drizzle, and more summer heat and extreme weather. This includes neighbors that identify as climate change deniers.

CA is a huge producer of animal products, which is a huge contributor to climate change. I heard about the need to curb fossil fuel usage but no mention of dealing with animal husbandry to mitigate some of the worst predicted effects of climate change. When is that episode airing? ;)
I think we should allow for some waterfront streets to become canals instead.
I live in CA and in the past 15 years, the temperature swing has been about 10 Degrees, hotter and colder, northern CA can reach 118F and and the bay area the fog is almost gone.

The Modi government has taken several steps to address climate change, including:

Nice try. Sea level increase is +2.5mm per year largely because NASA failed to account for irritable decay of the old +/-3.5cm accuracy satellites.

Utter nonsense
The latest (AR6) report from IPCC Working Group I (the science working group) could not identify any global trends in extreme weather events, though this statement in the body of the report did not make it into the "Summary for Policy Makers" - a politically (but not scientifically) approved document which appears to drive policy.
Politics governs climate policy. We're DOOOOMED

- We live in the same climate as it was 5 million years ago and the cancer will go away -
I have an explanation regarding the cause of the climate change and global warming, it is the travel of the universe to the deep past since May 10, 2010.
