Yes, true jokes. I’m 26 and I recognize that the roasts now are vile and in poor taste. These guys did it out of love for their friends and made of each other, and themselves
Hi, I’m Henry Guo. I’ve spent about 100,000 hours studying English humor and Western culture. My native language is Chinese. I can create many innovative jokes in the spirit of Chinese jokes and English humor. I teach Chinese language in jokes.
Both of his shows are hilarious classics...when he was a psychiatrist and Vermont innkeeper.I watched both sitcoms when new. I am surprised neither are on either MeTV, Cozi, or Antenna channels.
When I turned 50 I was living i n Vegas, that very day I picked up the news paper, and there was an article about Mr. Rickles being a head liner in Vegas for 51 yrs. I just said Daaaaamn!
Bob gives one of the funniest roasts of the entire series here, and only his closer goes a little flat with me. and may with you too if you happen to have an affection for turtles.
Bob Newhart is a unique comedian especially in his delivery. It took me a little while to see exactly how funny he is. He is sneaky brilliant. Very easy going but incredibly funny. Truly one the most underrated comedians of all time. He is universally revered in the entertainment industry. Sadly he is really the last of a dying breed of comedians. For the most part, people under the age 40 don't understand his style. He is easily in my top 5 comedians ever.
Dean Martin may have made his name initially as a straight man for Jerry Lewis but his comic instincts are among the best there ever were. Lewis knew that; he talked often about Martin’s timing. He was also an amazing ad libber.
Negative Neilson's rating. "People who don't own a TV said even if they did own a TV, they wouldn't watch Rickle's show." - Spoken by Rickle's best friend. lol Newhart the deadpan master comedian. Used to watch Bob's show when I was a kid in the 1970s. Hysterical. Seemed like happier times than now. Not sure if it really was, but it feels that way now.
I am currently a retired union electrician from Chicago and had the good fortune to work for the contractor that did extensive work in the mid 80's at St. Ignatius College Prep school there. Traditionally, the graduating class sneaks into the school's massive attic and sign their names on various wooden structural beams in chalk. One day I did see the autograph of Bob Newhart. Pretty cool!
Yeah, he’s amazing. Either you get it or you don’t. For me it doesn’t even matter what he says, he just makes me laugh. He’s the funniest un-funny guy.
Travis Johnson Sadly yes, cruelty and extremely bad taste is what passes for comedy now-a-days. It’s not about humor it’s all about shocking the sensibilities. The truly horrific aspect about these Roasts/Comedies of today is; comedy has always been a mirror-reflection of the Society of its time. Today's Roasts only highlight how coarse and base our Society as a whole has become. We need to re-empower shame and personal humility again. These Comedians could have said such things that are often said today... they just wouldn't! 😕
These guys all knew each other, and were genuinely friends. It was to have fun and entertain, not humiliate and degrade.

And the filth that comes out of their mouths. Every other work is Fu*k. It's sad what passes for comedy today. No originality or creativity, just pure laziness. They just swear and expect people to laugh.
Newhart has always had the ability to low-key talk...it was his MO, and he was brilliant at it. One of his first acts was pretending to talk to someone on the phone, which was hilarious.
God yes, you're right! What characterises so modern young Americans is a fear of laughter. Political Correctness has killed humour. Leftists are so self-obsessed, they don't see why so much of life is hilarious - particularly their self-obsession.
Gold...absolute Gold..if you were born before 1980 your lucky..this was the standard of comedy of the day..what a great way it was to grow up with all this funny inteligent comedy/comediens daily on the TV..and not a mofo, f****er, b***h, a hole trashy word or comment to be found..love it,,can't understand how/why comedy became gutter,,..miss these guys..
Rickles latest TV show gets a minus 4 Nielsen rating "...several people without TV sets heard about the show and said if they got one, they wouldn't watch it." LMAO
These two best friends are together again. RIP Bob Newhart! Thanks for the laughs.
Bob has the amazing ability to say things that do not look funny on paper but are hilarious when he says them. That is a true comedian.
RIP Bob Newhart. Loved your act.
The joke about the negative Nelson rating and Bob's deadpan delivery had Dean absolutely rolling.
Don too.
@@rexoates4484 I
For sure it was one of the funniest roast gags ever along with Charlie callas’ “under the surface of hatred and cruelty” in the same roast ..
Timing & delivery simply supreme...then that deadpan stare making listeners break first, as he seems casually amused!👀😁🤣
Bob Newhart is one of the most underrated comedians of all time.
He is massively successful HOW is he underrated stop being a robot
@@CinematicMaj I wouldn't say that. It was the poster's way of complimenting...
@@CinematicMaj most people know him from his sitcom work. They never heard his comedy albums and stand up

Nitsa Chios no trash? They used lots of racist comments.
@@georgerito5937 If it's funny, it's funny.
Well, if profanity is funny, it's funny. All this singing the praises of "clean" comedy over blue comedy just misses the point of what funny is.
Only because they were on TV. If you listen the bootlegs from the 50s and 60s, they were blue to the extreme.
As I've said elsewhere, the great thing about these roasts was that it always was a bunch of mates coming together and having a laugh.
What an awesome bunch of comedians!!!
You can’t find talent like this today😢
Yes you can get out more
Yes you can
@@Hywordslet’s hear it, who are they?
Acts like this make me feel that these legends and their acts were way ahead of their time.
Bob Newhart was underrated as a standup. It's great that he and Rickles were best friends.
….I have never met Bob Newhart 😂
youre not alone. Most of us havent.😂
Who else would read "Bob Newhart spot" on the teleprompter and get a laugh? Genius!!

That's what he said. I couldn't figure it out.
@@TS-qq7vr It was perfectly in character for him to read the cue card at that point.
Truth in advertising.
Thank you for explaining
Clean and amazingly funny comedy. Doesn't exist anymore.
The "if they got TV sets, wouldn't watch " might be the funniest line in all of the roasts.
Somebody once said Rickles was a test subject for a drug in order to make sure it was safe for use by rats. I think it was Rich Little.
And when he follows it up with, Don's career continues to Skyrocket, which is funny as hell too
These were the absolute best shows!!!! Hysterically funny.
True legends, still in awe in 2023.

Bad tuxedo's , cigars and brown booze all around whilst verbally battering your friends and nobody goes home offended.
If only they knew that the feminists would ruin everything later on.
Nicely put.
Bob always one of my favorite TV personalities. Loved his shows. His standup routines are side hurting.
Absolutely Mr Allen, Bob's LP Button Down Mind is groundbreaking, original and timeless.
These roasts were great. Newhart was funny as hell
very insightful
The Dean Martin Roasts are comedic brilliance.

Clean roasts. Who would've known it could be done. Thanks for posting.
Ive seen the clip half a dozen times and Im still laughing! RIP all

This clip should be shown to all alleged comedians everywhere. This is real comedy. Not the profane rubbish most comedians spew out today.
"We're all quite excited about it" LMAO
It's criminal he never won an Emmy until he guest starred on The Big Bang Theory.
I know right??? He should have won long before then, especially his first show.
LOVE Bob Newhart!!!! One of my FAVORITE SHOWS of all time "Newhart," with Larry, Darryl and Darryl!!!!
“Dons career continues to skyrocket” 💀
Dons career continues to skyrocket.
So many awesome stars there...Those were the days...
"We're all quite excited about it".... LMAO
Bob Newhart rarely smiled on his shows. It looks good on him.
Like Buster Keaton !
The joke at 1:40 about people without TV sets, but if they had one, they still wouldn't watch Don's show was brilliant.
Marvin Thiessen. If they got one, they wouldn't watch it.. ha
He was crying too after he cracked it 🤣
When I heard that line almost choked laughing 😂😂😂😂
I literally laughed out loud.
The line that struck me funny was when Newhart first stood up at the lectern and said, "Bob Newhart spot," like he was reading it off a cue card.
" when it comes to comedy bobby knows where it's at!" Why he don't go get it, I don't know." lol! about the funniest line in the roast.
Dean Martin may have made his name initially as a straight man for Jerry Lewis but his comic instincts are among the best there ever were. Lewis knew that; he talked often about Martin’s timing. He was also an amazing ad libber.
