Never imagined someone quoting Don Rickles and making me laugh as much as I just did, Thanks Rowan & Martin, you did 1-derfully and had Mr Rickles in stitches !!!
This is true class and comedy combined. Don Rickles picked on everyone. My favorite part is when Nipsey had his say. " Up Yours Don!" Imagine the laughter afterwards back stage. This era of comedians were politically incorrect to the max by today's standards. They could laugh at themselves and others. All races would burn each other hysterically.
Rowan & Martin, two of the greatest funny guys, watch the timing - fantastic!! Sadly, most of these funny men are no longer with us - never to be replaced.
I'm not sure that Rowan and Martin were the best but they were very good. The best could be others like Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Milton Berle and Henny Youngman, Nixon and Agnew or even Spock and Bones. They all were pretty good.
Could not agree more---oh man I was laughing so hard I was CRYING---Rowan and Martin really brought their A-game with this roast--awesome stuff!! (And to Don Rickles credit he got as much of a kick out of it as the audience did!!)
Rowan and Martin, who were hilarious comedians, remind us here that Don Rickles' comedy is not so much in the lines, but in his masterful delivery and timing of those lines. Many of the world's greatest comics have acknowledged Rickles' particular skills in these areas. But the lines are still important, even if the delivery and timing of them are (deliberately) missing in the Rowan and Martin renditions of them, to make their own comic point. When Rickles earlier in his career tried to apply his sense of timing to telling regular jokes or doing impressions of famous people, he wasn't very successful. It was his discovery that had a real talent for dealing with hecklers and making terrific comedic comebacks by "attacking" them back. From there, he built his entire act around "killing" members of the audience, but in a comedic way.
Thomas Richard Martin (January 30, 1922 - May 24, 2008), known professionally as Dick Martin, was an American comedian and director. He was known for his role as the co-host of the sketch comedy program Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In from 1968 to 1973.
I normally take great pains not to be hyperbolic, but this is legitimately one of the most subtle and layered comic routines of all time in my opinion. Rowan and Martin are casting aspersions on Don's whole act and persona, while at the same time communicating total appreciation and love for it. Not an easy circle to square, and they do it perfectly.
Definitely sadly racist has taken over our country to try and destroy it. In my opinion and mine only white black brown red yellow will never survive without each other's help. Some might not agree but it is happening right before our eyes. We all need to be color blind. Wake up America
Dick and Dan were made for each other, and the time. You are quite right about his won comedic timing as well. On laugh in his solo 'dry humor' bits were terrific.
Daniel Hale Rowan (July 22, 1922 - September 22, 1987) was an American actor and comedian. He was featured in the television show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, wherein he played straight man to Dick Martin and won the 1969 Emmy for Outstanding Variety or Musical Series.
Dan Rowan lived, ate and breathed show business. In 1975 Frank Sinatra threw a party at his house for the Apollo / Soyuz astronauts and cosmonauts. Rowan was there talking to a friend and the friend said, "Why don't you go over and meet the cosmonauts?". Rowan replied, "Oh, they don't want to meet me, they'd rather meet Sinatra". The other guy said, "Dan, these guys are from Russia, they don't even know who Sinatra is". Rowan was amazed that anyone could not know Sinatra and said, "Well, if they don't know Sinatra f--- 'em!"
I used to watch this type of politically incorrect comedy, when I was a kid. I laughed way more than my parents. Maybe, I simply got the jokes and they didn't. Priceless stuff it's
@@tommyzielinski485 Well, back in the day and I am talking 40 years ago, it was still considered comedic to act drunk. However, things changed around 1980. Acting drunk for comedy just wasn't considered appropriate given the awareness of alcohol abuse. But I also think it was an early reign of political correctness, but real PC was still about a decade away.

Dan: "Say Goodnight, Dick"
Dick: "Goodnight, Dick"
This was the funniest roast that was aired, Rowan and Martin were funny reading Rickles insults
I used to watch Laugh-in every Monday.
Great timing and talent.
I love the deadpan delivery, especially when he said “Anyway gang”
These two were the funniest comedy team of all time. I watched their show, Laugh-In, in first run way back when and it was hilarious.
Laugh-in was on BBC2 late on Sunday night. “Sock it to me!”. “Very interesting, but also very stupid”. Comedy gold!

Foster Brooks is hysterical as always.
Classic 🌈 Nipsey Russell 🤣 was great too ! This was a funny bit ! I’m 57 now and remember well 🦋
The entire Don Rickles roast was great, but with the exception of Foster Brooks, Rowan and Martin were definitely the best. This was just inspired!

agreed. Rickles was probably the third best part when he got his revenge.
What? no love for Charlie Callas?!!!
Could you imagine 2 old white guys doing these jokes today? Oyve!
I miss seeing grown men have fun with hilarious wit! Those days are gone.
Indubitably ☺️
Overall, the roast for Don Rickles was just about the best.
Just a bunch of true PROFESSIONALS making fun of someone else who does the same work. Nipsey's roast is also hilarious.
That was a bloody hysterical routine. they were really great when they were "on."
+Len Hummel Absolutely---they were hilarious when they got in a rhythm like they did in this routine--HYSTERICAL!!
Put more of Rowan and Martin. There are great.
Add Charlie Callas to the list just priceless!!!!!!!!

that's just you because his non sequitor comedy was brilliant. Why don't you go to Alaska and elope with a moose.
The talent level is unbelievable from this era..I'm just a very small part of this..Robert at 67.
Rowan and Martin. They deserve any comedy award they ever received. (btw, in those days this was very progressive and liberating humor. Seriously)
And the best line: Come back to haunt you, don't they?
These come back to haunt don't they LMFAO
They were called roasts back then because every one of these people are smoking down the place! Holy shit lol
Love Dick and Dan
