      Have you tried this one?,'cause it is awesome!
      It gives a superclean sound and you can use your amp for a great break-up!

    I agree with your choices in sound. A suggestion for the future. Maybe play with a vocal mic so that the mic vs amp contribution can be evaluated.

    I have been using the Bullettini for about 3 years. I have played through a lot of Mics however, the Bulletini is the best hands down ! Thank you for the Review !

    Tonally the U57 sounds brightest, the rest and the Bulletini most bass-boosting, and while more old school Chicago power-amped, seems more muddied, like down in a deeper well. If the choice is to crank volume and beats that may be ideal, but the U57 seems to have a more complete mid and upper range clarity along with the power. Tweaking amp settings can deepen the turbo surge, but I bet the mics that sort of artificially limit the tone to that effect won't play well if one wants to add more acoustic richness and details.

    That Silverfish sounds a lot like the low fi mic I made from an old phone receiver.

    That was accually very helpful. I've been toying with the idea of getting a Mic this year for after the course . I had my mind set on a Bullitini and was going to ask your opinion. You just gave it 😊

    Very good video about microphones
    I myself play the Shure 520 DX because I do not know what to buy as a beginner.
    Get along well and I'll try another one

    Hi Tomlin sorry yesterday I called you Tom. I still am not getting the sound I want... but I will not give up. I have been playing for quite a while I'd just like to nail this. There are other sounds I have got but not that yet

    I don't even do anything to where I'd need a microphone. I'm a guitar player, not a harmonica player. Jack White got me interested because he took a guitar and had a guy put a harmonica mic on one of those spools in to it.

    Why not a db resistant Lavier microphon. Got a light instrument and a heavy weight microphon. You can put the Lavalier anywhere in your hand and fix it and got your hands free for more ...Any experience with that.

    Tomlin, have you tried your Ultimate 57 with the Bullettizer? I have it and it is a lot easier to hold plus, depending on the position of the cup, you can have a sound comparable to a bullet mic.

    How about playing some songs like La Paloma or O Danny Boy ? That would give me a much better understanding how the mike affects the sound. Unless I am wrong, these mikes influence the sound.

    TOMLIN LECKIE, Did Paul Butterfield use a Shure 57 always from the 60s to the 80s or did he use different harmonica microphones? I think Kim Wilson harmonica player that uses tweed guitar amplifiers to get that boxy tone?

    Hi Tomlin, very useful video. what do you think of the other Shakers? The original Dynamics, and the MadCat / Maddog The Retro rocket is pretty expensive here is Aus at least, for a first time user!

    I must be the only harp player around who DOESN'T want a Chicago blues - Little Walter sound. I'm more of a jazz oriented single-note player. So, I'm in a quandary: should I get the bulletini or the Ultimate 57? How is the bulletini with singe note runs? Decisions, decisions

    • @TomlinHarmonica
      @TomlinHarmonica  Місяць тому

      Get the Ultimate 57 - if you want to play jazzy single-note and NOT a Chicago sound.

    Since I'm not strictly a blues player I wouldn't use any of these mics a lot, but I do want one for an occasional blues and/or rock n' roll song that would benefit from that "dirty" sound. So of the four you demoed, which one or ones do you (or anyone following this) recommend?

    Just pulled out my Special 20 from the drawer, still having trouble bending that 2 hole, playing few licks, wife complaining, cat coming to plead with me over making wailing noises on 4 and 5. Then notice my little Micro Cube GX amp looking neglected. Got an idea...BTW I thought the Silverfish the best, a little less compressed but clean and nice sized. Thanks!

  • @kevinsbott
    @kevinsbott 4 роки тому +1

    Many great players can't hold notes nearly as long as Tomlin... My guess: He's a non-smoker with kickass lung power.

      Lol - thank you. I am a non-smoke but I actually have awful lung capacity - we measured it with a peak flow meter...

    • @TomlinHarmonica
      @TomlinHarmonica  5 років тому

      Hi Tibor it is an amphenol to jack adapter because that is the kind of connection that the microphone has. This is quite common for harmonica microphones. :-)

    Hi Tomlin, nice sounds clear explanations! I have a somewhat off topic question, cause i lost a bookmark and dont find it again: I am looking for some effects example for harp - but not for blues. More for "classical Songs" like monn river and so on. Any idea? Did some limks pass your way? Thanks in advance"

    Hi Tomlin,
    Thanks for your recommendations. Do you also have recommendations for which microphone (set) to use when using a blues harp on a stand while playing guitar of piano?

    • @TomlinHarmonica
      @TomlinHarmonica  4 роки тому

      That's a great question Ruud - I would probably suggest something like a HarpLock which clips to a Shure SM58. You won't get that classic Blues tone but it will be quite practical :-)

    What is the impedance on the SM57 and what components would I need to connect it to an amp.

    • @danadrian2752
      @danadrian2752 5 років тому

      skrilla88 an SM57 is designed for low impedance not high impedance like on instrument amplifiers, a Shure 545SD is an SM57 (essentially) which can use either Low or Hi impedance, switchable on the inside. For an SM57 you would need 1) the Mic 2) an Xlr cable and 3) a Shure A85F, which transforms the Low impedance to a hi impedance. This would connect to your amplifier. The 545SD would need 1) the mic 2) an XLR to 1/4 cable. The Third option (since you are asking about Shure) would be a 520DX, which is specifically for harmonica and uses a 1/4 cable and would go straight into your amplifier. I’m assuming that you already have an SM57 so all you would need is a standard Xlr cable and an A85F transformer.
