Amazing project! Just got myself a lathe and i was wondering if you could share some info about the cutters you're using to bore the central hole. Also, what is that little mandrel you're using to hold the ring? Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for watching! I found a cutter set on Amazon for around 125 I think. So they're not the highest quality cutters, but they worked for the most part. Just gotta pay attention to the size (like the thickness) so they'll fit in your tool holder. And a boring bar is the specific tool name the one you asked about. I got my ring mandrel from bangleguy.com. But if you search "expanding ring mandrel" you should find lots of stuff on Google and even on Amazon. Happy turning!
What lubricant do you use for cutting? I use tap magic but that stuff is expensive edit: I also found an 80% water and 20% ferric chloride mix to really bring out the pattern.
Thanks! I'm a beginner myself and have very little experience with lathes so keep that in mind. But I use a central machinery 7x10 lathe and it's done me well for starting out. It's all the lower end of your budget so it'll leave soon the bring some upgrades and good cutters!
@@benofalltrades I've made a few recently starting from scratch. The heat treat works well, also instead of sanding right after etch, if you buff with a cloth wheel instead. Gives a great finish
men i get that these steels does'nt react with skin rigth? it doesn't rust or tarnish in the hand and wont cause problems unles you are allergic rigth??, if so, i wuld like to ask, how could i get a list of the different alloys of steel that can be used for jewerly, without causing issues, as copper or a ruty iron would cause
Sorry for the late response. This steel actually does rust. I've had good success with titanium and stainless steel. But honestly I'm just a hobbyist and haven't experimented with too many metals!
Beginner's mistakes/learning! This was one of the first steel rings I made. I've certainly gotten much better and refined my process much more since this video
This is absolutely gorgeous!
Great Job

DAAAAANG BRO

I've used automatic transmission fluid with good success! I also just keep it cool with rubbing alcohol (it doesn't rust anything)
Hi, brilliant video, are you using stainless or mild steel? Many thanks.
Thank you! It is mild steel!
flawless, how much time does it take you from forging the damascus steel to turning into a ring?
Well I actually just bought the Damascus steel blank. But the turning process takes me about 4-5 hours for a ring like this
Looking for someone that can learn how to forge rings from very special titanium. Look me up.
Beautiful. I have been making damascus pendants but want to try rings. Can you recommend a lathe. Maybe 550-1000 dollar budget?

Beautiful man. What lathe do you use for ring making?
Thanks! Right now I just have a central machinery 7x10 mini lathe
Heat treat before etching. Gives better contrast and stronger etch
I will have to give that a shot sometime! Thanks for the tip!

What’s the Rpm for drilling and lathe cutting
Honestly I'm such a beginning that I don't know the best rpm for these things. It was kinda just trial and error for me
Love it bro, imma order one soon. Let's do some silver ;)
Corr Pendragon sweet man! Yeah let's do it!
@Blaine Zayn no thanks. Go scam some other indian.
DOPE VIDEO
Mary Paschall DOPE COMMENT. Thanks :)
Looks good man. how long have you been making rings?
MrMiller thanks! I'm just coming up on a year now
I just started making them about month ago. Keep it up, looking forward to future stuff.
MrMiller nice nice, keep it up man, it's a good hobby and can definitely turn some profit!
how much for one? I lost my wedding band… landlord forced us to move, so they could sell our home. I need a replacement
Why did u use the same lathe tool for everthing
Beginner's mistakes/learning!

I have checked many woodworking plan sites. I think the instructions from Woodprix are the best.
I love the video, but that is not how you make a damascus steel ring. That is how you lath out a damascus steel ring.
Well, glad you enjoyed the video!
