    Unless there is a major change to the current EV mandate they will up the pressure on ICE owners and it is as simple as taxing them off the road and that is already happening with older diesels. Obviously it has little effect on wealthy owners but I can see we will soon have £1000 per annum road tax on the cars they want gone first.
    Off topic but I was very surprised to see a pre LP manual Murci go for £130,000 this weekend.

      £1000 road tax is still peanuts compared to most countries for a performance car. It might encourage more towards EVs but it won’t put enthusiasts off

    You make money to buy cars. Not the other way round apart from very specific situations.
    Don’t forget that if you include the cost of a loan, or the cost of opportunity if you pay cash, the actual spending is much higher than what people think. That car bought 10y ago for 100k, sold today for 120k, has probably lost money after costs…Buy what you can and fully enjoy in good health instead of worrying how much it will be worth next year…

    Hey Richard,
    Love the structure of these videos.
    I think that all of us enthusiasts are wondering what the car/classic car world will look like in 5-10 years time.
    It was very interesting that you referenced the Iconic auction as i was in the seated area 8-10 rows back from the auctioneer as the fast Fords were auctioned, some for record prices. My takeaway from sitting through over an hour of the sale is that most of the cars offered are going backwards in value at quite a rate. The very old cars say 1980's and older were either unsold or sold at prices that we might have seen 10 years ago (XK 140 man Convertible very good condition for just over 50K).
    I think that the fast Fords buck the trend as there are lots of people that regarded these cars as their dream vehicles that will now pay incredible money to buy their icons. Both Subaru P1's were unsold on Saturday with bidding not making it above the 20-29K bracket. Maybe the good news if this represents a price correction is that people will be able to afford their dream cars more easily and the investment vibe for normal classic classic cars will just fade away. Its definitely a buyers market.

    Just buy the cars you like and keep them long term and enjoy them. No-one has a crystal ball and No-one can second guess what will go up or down in value. Most money lost with cars is because people sell too soon. Keep your favourite car forever and value never comes into the equation.

    Competition cars and poster cars always peak when the generation hit 50 to 65. The cars we couldn’t afford in our 20s are now affordable in our 50s peak car appreciation is any competition car built in the 90s and supercars that came out in the 00s (top gear era). Your collection shows this. Motorcycles lead the market usually and 90s 2 strokes are the hot property now it will move to the 400 and 750 four strokes next . It has to be different to the modern stuff so you don’t compare it. I have a 2012 z4 6 cylinder, it’s easy to live with and a car I sold to have a family. The modern z4 is faster and cheaper to run but it’s not a car I have an emotional attachment to. I looked at tvrs, tr7s,mg’s, spitfires, mx5s, but they weren’t cars that I aspired to own. The boxster is a better car but I like the front engine RWD layout and styling more.

    Newly subbed. I understand s85 problems but I really do think that m6 is under appreciated! Don’t sell good ICE cars. People are going to come back for visceral driving experience of the older cars 100%, a lot of kids out there want that experience and unlike the older generation who had the luxury of always going for the newest thing they will probably only have the option of going for things made up until about 2020. if they want good NA stuff options go back even further.

    Cars are extremely rare good investment and mostly luck. Property will always come first just as much as you need food to eat.The gradual legislation and social disapproval of ICE cars will increase overtime. Look how loud exhausts today are socially disliked. When people don’t have money to eat they will soon be stealing your cars and I love cars really….. 😢 how will you use them or just lock them up in a dark garage somewhere and look at them once a month… pointless. ❤

  • @sagalout
    @sagalout Місяць тому +3

    Most people will simply buy the latest EV and change it every 3 years. Enthusiasts will still value ICE cars and they’ll be around for at least the next 30 years. One thing I don’t understand is the prevalence of autos in performance ICE cars - yes I know they’re faster but they’re boring. May as well have an EV 🤷‍♂️.
    I think the cars that may hold value the best are the more analogue manual cars. I say this as someone that owns an EV daily and a V8 manual Mustang so there’s some wishful thinking 😂

      I also find a manual more engaging, especially when not stuck in heavy traffic but also not pushing 100%. Automatics are boring for just driving along.
      But dual-clutch gearboxes are almost necessary with a lot of cars. A manual would hold you back significantly, especially if you’re not Chris Harris or a racecar driver. With something like a modern Ferrari or McLaren 750S most people need both hands on the wheel.

    Id suggest when you do your car and flat video you inflation adjust the prices. Its easy to say you've made money in nominal terms with inflation running at 20% for 3 years. But what are the numbers in real terms, if you remove the effects of inflation ? You also have to remember the GBP is a dying Fiat currency. So in 10 years everything will be 20 to 30% more expensive than it is now but not if you price it in say gold or something that isn't being printed. If prices rise 30% from here just in inflaton alone who will be left that can afford to buy more than food and water, let alone 500k for a subaru

  • @topmarques
    @topmarques Місяць тому +1

    Times are changing for sure but the iconic cars of the '60's onwards are becoming irreplaceable. A Hyundai Ionic 5 might be an impressive car today but will it really stand the test of time?
    If you buy a '70's Porsche 911 targa sportomatic cheaply don't be surprised if a 911S manual coupe might be a much better investment long term even if it cost multiples to buy. MGB's and MX5's may gain value over time but there are far to many out there to even really ring the bell.
    Personally, however good EV's can be (Porsche Taycan) I think we already know their destiny... let alone in 30 years.
