I love destoke 400s . Used to build them mid to late 80s till early 90s tunnel rammed with nitrous, supercharged and several single plane single carb ones with and without the gas. Such wonderful times kicking ass

I had a 377 built in the early 90s for a street car I had.
The car was a 1987 Monte-Carlo ss the engine was one of the best engines I have owned when I sold the car I sold it with the engine which I regret doing to this day.
It was one of those engines that wasn't supposed to make the power that it did.
When I had it built I put the best parts in it that were available at the time.
I believe the best dyno pull was 753 horsepower with a signal carb.
I can't remember the exact RPMs I shifted the engine at but it was up there
To this day I regret selling the engine

On my 377 i couldn't afford the good heads so i use gm production 041 with 202 and 160 ported a little with small diameter base cam by comp cams put engine a 1970 ss nova full interior 3200 pounds with micky Thompson street tires i could only turn it 5800 to 6000 rpm and i ran 11.32 in the 1/4mile anyways never got to try on slicks ended up selling car but the 377 is the best engine I've ever had

    • @FFRC
      @FFRC  3 роки тому +4

The 377 is an awesome engine but you have to spin them high RPM to make power. You would probably like a 383 better for a daily, because they have more torque down low where you would want it for daily driving. Thanks for checking out my vid👍

Sweet build! Very impressive for a factory block!
What was done to the bottom end to keep the crank from spitting out on the ground? Did you install splayed caps or any sort of girdle to keep that thing in one piece?
I seen some pretty horrific carnage of sbc factory 2 bolt 400 blocks that the main caps let loose and spit the crank on the ground. 😳
My next build on my channel is a factory block sbc 400 stroker to 434 cid. It has splayed main caps and a halo girdle, hoping that will be enough for the Dart Pro-1 CNC 227 23 degree heads? Also has a Howard's 4-7 swap solid roller cam. I don't think it'll have the HP your has but it will possibly be more torque?
Going to be keeping my fingers crossed that the crank stays in the block. Hope to hear what you did to keep that from happening. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video. I have been kicking around building a 377. Right now i have a 406, i do not believe i will be happy with. The motor is going into a 79 su bird H body, like a monza.
I have a steel 350 crank , that came out of a modified dirt car motor. It is .020 undersize, needs a good polishing. I have stock 5.565 rods with forged .030 pistons on them. I have 2 sets of heads to use, i have anberaly set of pro comp heads, never been run, and i have a set of 461, that have some serious bowl porting and porting done to them. Those headscwent 10.99 on a 406 in a 78 malibu. Dual plane air gap intake. Reason i dont beleive i would be happy with the 406 in my sunbird. Way to much torque for my little car, do t want to twist it.
    Your thoughts ?

I raced in a restricted superstocks dirt track division. 363cid chevy max rule. Holley 500cfm 2bl carb. We put 327 crank in 400. Yes it cubed to 348cid. We gave up 15 cubes but on flipside revved it 7200rpm (flat tappet cam, 10.5 max compression rule, iron heads with no porting allowed). It ate the competion.

It's like a 350 but instead of .060 over pistons, it's .125 over, so as long as the bit of extra piston weight doesn't tear the rod caps off, it's fine. Also they use bearing spacers for the crank. It looks like two bearings stacked

Very cool build I'm doing a 406 now and have a second block with a 1970 forged crank to put it at 377 I'm just wondering what kind of power I'll be making I'm almost at my first start any day on the 406. That's a really cool build .an love those old school valve covers. I found a plain set of Edelbrock chrome valve covers with a nice old school air cleaner to match. Looks like a 327 i had in 1984 in high school. Anyway I've got alot of questions more than i could ask tonight but as far as bottom end what rods are you using for that rpm it's running and you briefly mentioned the crank. Just curious cause I'm clueless to what kind of power I'm gonna be making. 218 cc heads 205 160 flow 302 at 650 n start falling a little still good at 7. Cam is solid roller 639 654 exhaust 265ish duration. 800 cfm carb . Is there a formula to figure this out. Sorry so long you're the first video with a 377 like i want to do that's old school. All i hear is it's the wrong thing to do but from the sounds of yours that thing is badass. Can't wait to see it in your nova . Thanks for taking the time to make that video that made my day. The block I used was a 1970 511 block. These blocks are definitely not ideal for boost lol. But it’s like anything, if you take it easy on the boost it may live for awhile. Good luck on your build and thanks for checking out my video👍

600 wheel will be over 700 crank. I have a 406 forged crank, rods, pistons, solid roller Erson cam(.548 .548 ) 1.6 rockers make it a .584, AFR 210 comp heads(65cc chambers) victor jr intake, FST billet extreme 750 carb and 17/8 headers and I made 526/504 crank hp but only made 388 to the tires. Thought something was wrong but I guess that’s typical parasitic loss. Stock 511 block. Hope you don’t get your hopes up because dyno’s smash them. Take care and always mark your territory with 2 black marks.

@@royalchaser8090 oh wow ! You definitely have more motor then me! Sounds like you went on the mustang dyno aka the heartbreaker people call them lol because it sounds to me like 385 is very low …
But I am glad to hear the block is doing good!
My block is at the machine shop as we speak having it cleaned up and the decks machined for MLS gaskets . Lowering my compression down to 9.5ish for a more pump friendly for the turbo I’m not shooting for the moon I wanna try and squeeze into the 10’s
My turbo is capable of splitting the block in half that’s why I was thinking 500/600 to the wheel should get me there and would probably maxing out the block
Did you runs yours down the track yet ?

@@juiced71 I have ran probably 40 1/8 mile passes and I daily drive for 4 months a year and bust my car out on nice days in February if it’s not frozen outside. The best my Camaro has run with stock suspension and frame connectors is 1.64 60ft 7.46@92 mph on 92octane. It’s a dynojet that a friend owns for his shop. I have seen his 4 cylinder Toyota make 800 plus on the same rollers so I am not impressed with my numbers or the numbers that it cost to have built lol
