@16:58 you could tell how proud Uncle Bob was of that engine. You can tell that man takes pride in everything he does.
I see him showing pride in Billy, too. My son makes me smile like that when I see him enjoying something I love doing.
@@Carl_Jr We agree Carl,, @17:40 Bob kinda has his arm around Billy,, that's kinda like a 'term of endearment',, sorta like a Father/Son. Bob and Bill both are proud of where Billy's knowledge is right now. Tommy is coming along at at even faster pace. These two Hoskinson boys are bound for greatness in the racing world,, they just are. They've had awesome mentorship their entire lives and they've responded. It has been stated by many on this and the other SRC channels,, "Where will these boys be when they're in their mid to late 30's and beyond?". Time will tell but from all we see on these UA-cam channels the Moon isn't to high a goal. Will they go Pro one day in say Pro Mod, Pro Stock or higher? I'm thinking it is a good possibility 'IF' that's something they want. Moving up to BIG TIRE something on the line of NPK?? I'm thinking Billy is already talking about going BIG TIRE with his Nova. We're enjoying being along for their trip no matter where they want to go. Thanks to all who have been a part of these young men's upbringing. We can't overlook how important Uncle Bucko, Miss Vikki, BIG Rob and Kenny Powers have been in their lives, no Sir,, we cannot ignore the importance these people have played in Billy and Tommy's lives.
I would love to hang out with Uncle Bob at his shop to watch him in action. I know talent and he’s got it

That engine is a joke over 8.000 rpm and won't even make 400 HP
I just loved seeing Uncle Bob’s excitement on that last pull when it hit 607 hp at 8200 RPM, then the props he gave you when you suggested a different cam degree.
Ya I could tell bob wanted to see where it would stop making power. Billy is an 8200 guy
Bob suggested the cam change. He kinda had to talk Billy into it lol.

Damn LS engines are great and everything but nothing sounds as good as a big cam high compression old school SBC. Nice job Billy. That trucks going to fly.
Have you heard the LS hemi before that sounds wicked
Well, except for a big cam high compression BBC.

If you like the sound of high RPM NA small blocks go to an NHRA Hot Rod Reunion and check out the Jr Fuel dragsters. Cast iron small blocks limited to 430 CI injected on methanol. They rev to what sounds like well over 10K and make the most glorious sound! Oh, and they are fast as hell!

Uncle Bob is priceless, one hell of a engine builder. The S-10 is gonna be even more of a beast than ever now, I can`t wait. Y`all did a outstanding job!!
Lovin Billy's dedication and determination to get better and go faster. You don't hand your stuff to some big company and say "Make me fast!" You learning everything to be complete and well rounded racer! Can't wait to see the S10 back rippin!!
Good to see Bob is still smiling. What a wonderful man. Thank you for helping my grandson do this right. God bless.

I disagree. That truck can make 2,000 hp but it won’t put it down on the street. It’ll make the 1500 hp it is 😊
It's going to twist in half eventually.

Everytime an SRC video ends, I wish it was longer.
Keep killin it guys!
He's a humble man, long live Bob. ✌️
Big respect to bob Mcvey the man is the real deal
It looks like this machinist knows what the hell he’s doing
He's a lot more than just a machinist. He's a builder a tuner and just a all around knowledgeable guy. He's pretty bad a**.
Alcohol doesn't add more heat to the oil, it takes heat away from the water due to latent heat of evaporation. Some big alcohol cars don't run cooling systems due to the cooling effect of alcohol.
Bingo. The IAT, EGTs, and everything else is cooler so the water temp drops a lot. The oil is under pressure, and eating friction no matter what the fuel is, so the oil temp was relatively normal.
With all of the great work and support Uncle Bob gives, he has definately earned a sponsorship type deal, promoting his business with a good sized decal on the truck.
Nothing sounds like a small block at 8200 thats music to my ears.
Hell yes!
nothing on earth can compare to the sound of a screaming small block chev i hope that engine can withstand the beating that is coming
Mine too especially if it's pulling a hard load .a laboring engine sounds great like at tractor and truck pulls
Billy, what you are seeing when you force the water temp to be much colder, like with what happens when running alcohol from gasoline, is the engine now relying on the oil to keep the parts cool. Yes. Alchol burns cooler in the chamber, but it still produces heat in the parts and if the parts can't transfer heat into the coolant as quickly and the coolant is being forced to stay cold, it can't do it's job to absorb the heat, so it relies on the oil to do it. Don't confuse running alcohol with NO heat. The combustion heat goes down a bit, but there is still friction and moving parts still get hot.
Technically, it's not the coolants job to keep the oil temp cool. In reality, when the water IS able to absorb the heat, the parts run cooler and the oil doesn't have to make up for it, so it runs cooler. It still absorbs heat from the parts, just not as much. Hence why in a typical running engine, water temp rises faster than oil temp and usually takes oil temp much longer to rise, but ultimately oil will be slightly higher by about 10⁰-15⁰ in a controlled atmosphere. The more you hammer on it, the coolant stays the same but the oil temp rises considerably.
Colder water loses it's ability do absorb heat as quickly, because by nature the colder you make it, the more heat it releases not absorbs, until it ultimately turns to a solid form, ice. The colder you make the water, the less efficient it is at absorbing heat, and in turn actually acts as a thermal barrier, or insulator, holding the heat in. When you force the "barrier" to be cold, everything within the barrier becomes hotter. Now the oil has to work harder, and for its efforts, becomes hotter.
This has been the norm when switching to alcohol as fuel. Not a bad thing, since you need the hotter oil temps to burn off moisture and contaminants in the oil from the alcohol. You also want to run a specific thicker oil in alcohol engines to make up for that. I use Bradd Penn 20/50 race oil in these.
FYI, colder running temps, colder intake charge, combined with hotter oil equals more power.
What you were experiencing was pretty normal. Nothing wrong with hotter oil temps, to a certain degree. Definitely something i would be monitoring in a race engine. Many different things can cause hotter oil temps. What i listed was mainly because of the back to back change in fuel only and why it is happening. Hope this helps.
Hats off to Bob he's the Man !
I'm curious how it's smaller and will make more power. Is it because your reving it higher?
@@havocracing6019 Heads and cam combo makes the power, shorter stroke helps keep piston speed down in higher rpm so internals has an easier time in high cylinder pressure.

Billy liking Brittany Auto
Look at uncle Bob he looks like a kid in a candy store it look like he was more excited than Billy. Uncle Bob your a rare man indeed. Wow Billy I'm impressed that little 372 is a screamer and definitely looking forward to seeing it in the S10 and making killer hits. Best of luck and I sure hope that 372 don't find your weakest point. As I always say Tommy your doing a awesome job. God bless you all and as always be safe 👍
As I posted on the original reveal that Billy was building a 372…
He better be ready for RPMs!!!
Going to be totally different animal.
So so so so so so SOOOOO glad you all are going through this process with Uncle Bob and breaking it in and trouble shooting on the dyno! Incredibly valuable experience and will make the process once it's in the truck (hopefully) a whole heck of a lot smoother. Kudos to all of you guys, can't wait to see the fun ahead for 2023 sounds like a WHOLE lot of upgrades to the little truck besides a healthy new heart!
As a engine assembler/ machinist in a race engine shop, we install bronze bushings in the lifter bores with a Rottler F69A, we buy them plain and then calculate where the lifter travels and drill a .040 oil feed hole in it to control the flow, then the slot size isn't as fussy like what you went through.
We do have a Superflow 901 engine dyno with improved water brake to help with water loading to help prevent run away power during the run.
Really cool to see all the learning from doing it the hard way. Bob M. Will forever be in your toolbox of knowledge if he doesn’t even see you again. Thanks for sharing this experience.!!!
Fuel/octane have nothing to do with engine operating temperatures. You likely have another problem that seems to only be happening the times you run 91 vs E85.
It isn't a "problem". It's what happens.
Revs like it's got a flat plane crank in it, loves rpm. Sounds incredibly strong, Bob definitely knows his stuff, great job guys. Wonder what she is going to make with 30 lbs of boost. Go fast and be safe. God bless you and your family and friends.
Exactly what a screamer completely different sound like a indy flat plane.
I would figure 30-40hp per pound of boost.
600hp na X 2 atmosphere’s = 1800hp approximately. 1 atmosphere = 14psi
@@kennethwindstein2907 i believe the truck is capable of makin 2000hp
@@bird197196 1 atmosphere=14.7, and w/slight loses, its better to round to 15psi w/turbo, and w/centrifugals superchargers, it takes 19 to 22psi to get 1 atmosphere net power, cause it takes so much power to turn the impellars with the engine. If Billy pumps the boost up to 40psi, it could make 2,200H.p.! Out of a 372cu.in. small block=Wowzers!
Alcohol will run cooler PERIOD! I have actually seen times where the intake would have frost on it, Your combustion temps however will still be there and possibly even a touch warmer because you typically run more timing with alcohol ( HENCE THE REASON FOR RUNNING ALCOHOL IN THE FIRST PLACE ) I think if you were to time how long it takes to bring the oil temp to 180 on racing gas vs alcohol you wouldn't see much difference, It is deceiving because when you would time how long it takes the WATER temp to come up on alcohol vs racing fuel you would find that the water temp of the alcohol would come up considerably slower than the racing fuel which can also be another reason for running alcohol., Common in cemented blocks etc.
Father like son always good content y’all’s 3 channels r the best out there
Britney is famous! that motor should be a ripper in that little truck!
Never been a chevy guy but I give respect 🙌 yaw are truly passionate about what yaw do and yaw got a Hall of fame Dad can't wait til spring truck going to be nassssttttyyyuy
The alcohol keeps the top end cooler but the rest of the motor is still under the friction forces producing heat. The fact the top end gets cooled so fast does not allow it to pull the heat from the oil going thru the motor as fast as it does. Just like a radiator with a thermostat. It holds the water still until it pulls X amount of heat, then flows again to pull in more cooler water to heat soak again. I would assume thru physics if you could keep oil pressure up but flow low on the oil it would balance more as there is longer time sitting in the cooler parts of the motor. Just be sure to run an oil cooler when you switch to the new fuel system now you know there is that much difference.
Or put heads together and come up with an oil pan chller system where heat soaks off the pan and gets cooled externally like a computer water cooling system.
Don’t feel guilty, Brittany got me too 😂 . I like the way you figured out the oil issue, I commented once before that once you start building your own engines, that’s elite status. 🙌🏁🏁
And that's the difference between in a hurry and doing it all right the first time with the best of the best an someone who knows an cares

Efi usually loses peak hp
I'm a little surprised it didn't make more with 372ci and TFS heads. I believe I have seen a 358ci 9.5" Windsor make 595hp with TFS 11R 190cc heads. Not bagging on your work, I always thought a 4.125" 3.48" stroke high revving SBC would be sweet. I have a feeling a 377ci 4" x 3.75" would probably be able to make just as much power, if not more and not require as many rpms, even if they were made equal with 377ci each and a 4.155" bore in the opposing engine.SBCs are still the budget champion for a regular guy builder, they're not necessarily the best option out there for all situations. LS and 9.5" Windsors are extremely viable alternatives.
Now you got to build some custom big tube headers
Hahahaha I was watching her video before yours dam yoga pants
Sounds like your going to be shifting it at 8200. Now you just need to make sure you have a converter that is going to work best with that combination.
The converter he has now is probably a little too tight download for that engine. His last engine made quite a bit more torque downloads than this one does. But I bet you it's not tight enough up high for when he really starts throwing the boost at it. You can probably do a stater chand it would be OK until he decides to really open it up at the track or no prep at a track.
He must have been talking about Brittany Automotive lol she got me as well laying across that beautiful LT engine .
OMG I’m so proud of the hard work you guys have done to build this monster motor. With boost it’s going to be insane. Thanks to all of the supporters of this fantastic family and friends.

I know your dad won’t like you going EFI but it clearly is time. At the power level you are making having the ability to tune each hole independently is so critical.
I know this change may make your dad feel it but unneeded (I am older than your dad and get it) but it is a part of letting go of your kids. It doesn’t mean Billy doesn’t appreciate all you have taught him Bill!
17:26 - The big disparity in the cylinder EGT’s here shows the drawback of a blow through carb set up. It just can’t compensate for any distribution issues inherent in the intake manifold.
I told him to put EFI on it. I’m not interested in babysitting it anymore
@@theoldmansgarage - Wow, that’s a change. Good on you Bill!
I know this sounds crazy; but I’ve seems some combos; where there was injectors with a carb on a nitrous combo (think old pro mod). The injection was just used to trim the cylinder to cylinder differences a bit better and keep to tube up more stable as atmospherics change.....It sounds over complicated but, I could see it as an advantage, given there’s no intercooler on the truck, and a carb does better introducing the fuel further upstream for charge cooling.....just a thought.

Fuel burns different some burns hot than other fuels that can effect oil temperature every time I haul feul for a living and if you look into how fuel burns you will understand that not all fuel burns the same and they act differently
E85 burns cooler than gas so why does it make the oil temps hotter immediately
That just sounds Awesome guys, please make sure you show us all the process during the upgrades.
Really looking forward to that content 💪💪👍
Extremely impressive. Goes to show the right parts mated together will definitely improve power. Hope to be there some day with our race program. Have a long way to go but we have to do it on a budget, one or two components at a time with lots of upgrades to make from one end of the car to the other. Can’t wait to see the S-10 make a pass.
The reason for increased oil temps on 85 or alky when idling or warm up is because of the high volume of fuel needed with those fuels, and oil dilution past the rings as you would have seen in the past, well that fuel past the rings carries combustion temps with it, there is the reason for higher oil temp.

Long live Bob you guys rock
The sound of that new motor at 6500 rpm+ is wicked. Like its possesed! That thing is gonna something to watch once you get it on boost!
Lake Speed has talked about that oil temp issue many time's in great detail. He says you want to run a specific oil with special additive pack as the alcohol kills some regular additives that aren't made for it. That extra friction caused by the wrong oil generates much more scuffing by the rings which generates the hotter oil temps
Not sure why but Brittany gets everyone. lol. She is good.
I like the way you all share your findings and not trying to hide it all. You all did the right thing holding out on russing for the races.... do it right the first time. And smoke them all.....
WARNING; internet expert talking;
its going to need a rev limiter on it, time to retest the valve springs . . . Lol this is definitely fun thanks for sharing i think of it's evaporative quality, this tends to make me think, oh well it doesn't cool the oil as much, all though the cylinder temp is controlled perhaps there is more heat soak to the oil through the piston or valves to not being as wet Lol! And you were running it slightly rich in video correct? do you have 7" rods in this thing or what? Is this a tall deck 4.185" bore with a 3.38" crank or what? i am just ask because, your might not be holding your piston speed limit to 4000 Feet Per freakin Second here, for engine longevity of course. BWAHAHHHAAAAA. You could squirt the bottom of the pistons with oil through a lazer cut pin hole in the top of the rod if it needs it. But then maybe oil pressure drops and lose. i am believe boost is going to balance pressurization in the block nicely.
That was a good video, thanks for sharing and figuring out the oiling problem on your lifters, good job on passing that information to all fellow racers and small time engine builders.
Solving the oil supply problem past the lifters was epic ! Excellent ! Wish I had an uncle Bob in my 318-340 days !
