1985 Kaufman 47' Sailboat, S.V. Liberte

Liberte is a rare Kaufman '47, fewer than 30 of these beauties were built by Kha Shing in the mid-to-late 1980's. They say she's a performance-oriented cruiser, but Michael Kaufman just hit it out of the park when it comes to performance -- you haven't lived until you've helmed her, with the bit in her teeth, surfing down those big rollers at over 11 knots on a blustery San Francisco summer day. Honestly, she's itching to go, any time, anywhere in the world.
Our family has been proud to sail and maintain her for more than 20 years, and she's got an impressive list of appointments. In 2019 she was extensively refitted including:
Beautiful awlgrip hull and deck paint after removing everything
Fresh pin-striping
Bottom paint
Replaced all deck fittings
Rebuilt all hatches
Replaced both forward and aft heads (aft is electric now)
New dodger
Replaced/rebuilt anything that needed it
Service for volvo-penta diesel
Our kids/crew have grown now, and our sailing buddies have "swallowed the anchor" so Liberte's looking for a new owner -- she's based at Grand Marina in Alameda on San Francisco bay -- we'd love to show her to you!
