That helps a lot. I have been on and off with doing push-ups for a long time. I have been doing some of these things and thank you for clarifying more in detail. Now you how about pull ups and chin ups ?
my experience is that struggling to do pushups is down to not having done enough specific exercise to strengthen the chest muscles. What I did to build up strength in my chest was to do 10-20 incline pushups on the edge of my bath tub every time I use the toilet. Works great if you have the space in your bathroom!
I have more than enough chest body and shoulder strength. but my arms just totally give out after 2 good-form push up reps on the floor. I can just barely do 2 on the floor before my arms just collapse! My arms get totally fried after that! I found I could do about 5 on the edge of the bath tub. and 10 on the kitchen counter.

At the age of 58, I am starting life all over and trying to reinvent myself! 😅 I just tried, using my bathroom counter. I was only able to do 10 in each set. I'm over eighty, and I've never been able to do pushups. It was a constant fear of mine when I was in Basic Training that the NCO in charge would one day order me to do ten pushups in front of the entire company. That would have been humiliating. An eighteen-year old who can't do ten pushups? What a disgrace. Fortunately, that never happened, but you have reminded me of an obligation I have to myself: DO THE DAMN THINGS. DO A HUNDRED OF THEM. Thanks for the push. I had already known about your method, but it always helps to be reminded.(Wed Jul 6, 2022)
I can do bench press of like 30kg and lots of other exercises. One day I could do 8x3 push-ups and then suddenly I can’t do any. Idk if my form WAS wrong but I’ll see how I’ll go
I use to weigh around 140 lbs, I was unhealthy and skinny; but I could do pushups. I'm now nearly 200lbs and I can't do one, going to try and figure this out.
Thanks for the video! I have trouble bending my wrists in a push-up position long enough to complete a set before they start hurting. Is there any way to do push-ups that isn’t so hard on the wrists?
Place two non slippery dumbbells on the landing surface and grab those instead of placing the hand on the surface. They also sell “handles” to place on the floor which have a silicon base to ensure they are not slippery
Hi my name is James, can you please do a video on people with lower back injury's that suffer pain in both legs and the cause and the proper treatment. Thank you.
Hi Matt, thanks for a fun and clear video. I was wondering whether you have any wisdom how to do proper push-ups if you have snapping ulnar nerves on both sides? There's zero pain involved if I only do a few, but would love to find a way to avoid the snapping altogether if that's possible at all? I can do the beginning part, or the end part - it's not really a strength issue, but just that mid part and it snaps... Thanks a bunch.🙏
I had foot surgery 2 years ago and I have screws in my foot . It hurts for me to do push-ups . What else can I do to help tone and put more definition in my arms
I can't push my body towards ground for a push up... I dont have enough strength in my arms to push my body down ... how can I learn ... kindly help me out .. I tried many times . I am having pain in my hands and elbows
I went from not being able to do 1, to do 3 sets of 3 in 2 months and after 6 months I'm able to do 3 sets of 15, and although may range of motion is good it could improve. I practice twice a week.
I do wall push ups. For some reason, I am unable to get my hands flat on the floor, like my wrist won't allow it. On wall push ups, I use my fingertips. Any ideas?
I have a question. Your arms are positioned straight back when doing push-ups, my arms want to go to the side? Should they positioned exactly how you have them? I have not done push-ups in a long while......would like to start out the way you are presenting them.
It's okay if they go to the side, but it's not good if the elbows go too far out. It is best to do it 3 times a week 4-5 sets (2-3 min break between each set) as many repetitions as you can but don't force yourself to failure. In a month you will already see changes in strength and body. Consistency is the key! :)

It does work! I felt the same way. As long as you stay consistent you'll be able to do them 👍
Haha, yes I am weak, that's why I am watching this! 😊 I need to know how to do push ups.
Hi ,... anyway i have elbow arthritis pain stops me from doing push ups or etc.... can i fix my elbow arthritis??? Please help
I can do bench press of like 30kg and lots of other exercises. One day I could do 8x3 push-ups and then suddenly I can’t do any. Idk if my form WAS wrong but I’ll see how I’ll go
just getting started
I use to weigh around 140 lbs, I was unhealthy and skinny; but I could do pushups. I'm now nearly 200lbs and I can't do one, going to try and figure this out.
Thanks for the video! I have trouble bending my wrists in a push-up position long enough to complete a set before they start hurting. Is there any way to do push-ups that isn’t so hard on the wrists?
Place two non slippery dumbbells on the landing surface and grab those instead of placing the hand on the surface. They also sell “handles” to place on the floor which have a silicon base to ensure they are not slippery
@@OrtoInScatola good ideas, thanks!
Great idea 💪
I couldn’t do an inclined push up at 20” March 23. I now do 3 x sets of 15 inclined. Still struggle with push-ups horizontal on the floor.
Hi my name is James, can you please do a video on people with lower back injury's that suffer pain in both legs and the cause and the proper treatment. Thank you.
April 13, I can barely do a set of 10 proper pushups. I get back here in a month.
How's it going
@@jusdiffer I can do a good 20 everytime.
i have been doing weight training but dont see any change. just starting this push up method now and ill come back in about 2 to 3 weeks. see ya then!
Just starting, from table height, with one rep of 15. Well, it’s a start. Hey, I’m 65 🤷🏽♀️
i am at 0 and even at elevated surface i can barely do 5 , let me get consistent with my reps and i will share my progress in here.
I would take a look at this video and see if it helps: ua-cam.com/video/gH8tb5O2Eo4/v-deo.html
Thank you for making this video.
I can do 2-3 normal push ups i will try this method
After not doing workout for countless years. I can only do 1 full push up and I am barely able to do it.💀
I had foot surgery 2 years ago and I have screws in my foot . It hurts for me to do push-ups . What else can I do to help tone and put more definition in my arms
You could try doing half pushups instead of full. They don't put any pressure on the leg.
I am about to start exercising 😢after long time if no activity
I can't push my body towards ground for a push up... I dont have enough strength in my arms to push my body down ... how can I learn ... kindly help me out .. I tried many times . I am having pain in my hands and elbows
❤Thank you
I went from not being able to do 1, to do 3 sets of 3 in 2 months and after 6 months I'm able to do 3 sets of 15, and although may range of motion is good it could improve.
