honestly man you saved my life tonight. You make history both simple and truly enjoyable to learn. I just wanted you to know that i seriously appreciate what you do. keep doing what your doing :D
I'm a college student studying for CLEP exams. I have a decent understanding of U.S. History, but your lectures have been incredible for reviewing. Thank you for doing this!
Fun fact for a future video: the phrase "yellow journalism" originated from the very first newspaper comic character, the Yellow Kid, who was portrayed as a street urchin wearing a yellow nightshirt that bore smarmy commentary on daily events
I love your Dummies War history Review! You said it on spot for the Philippines. If anyone will Review the history of the Phils. from 15-16 Century, Filipinos are industrious and they like Reading. Therefore the Spanish easily blended into Philippines language and even learned the Spanish at heart because the Spaniards used books, stories and bibles that captured the attention of the Filipinos. In many histories exists, you have a great Eye for details that books never really revealed, like the disease that triggered many Lives of the American Soldiers. I agreed because I read it too, long time ago. More Power to you and continue your great videos! I have already subscribed and thumbs up! And more to comes!!! I`ll take your advice for my Writing!Bless you!

Check out the Spanish movie Los últimos de Filipinas about the grueling Siege of Baler where a bunch of Spanish soldiers did not surrender a fort for months because the commander didn’t believe that the war was over yet.
You got me at first haha.. I graduated with a history degree., I just like to see how accurate or inaccurate you may or may not be .. I love the content ... funny teacher! Inspiring as well! I feel like I know you ..
From what you say, it is inexplicable why Filipinos adore the USA. They praise and respect us for our help against the Spanish. I know from Lapu Lapu to Jose Rizal and question your over simplification of this subject.
For Hughes, it is a very excellent gesture by you remind specially young people. Also those in District Of Culumbia. God Bless U.S.A. * MORE RESPECT TO THE AGENCY C.I.A.! Amen.
Hah!, I learned something.... what an archaic time when we had these so called "Yellow Journalist". On a more serious note, still trying to find out the deal with sugar in PR.
If you watch the Secret of Oz (Bill Still) you will get plenty of interesting events during that time. It's so important, not only to understand the moment of the History, but also the World we are living on today
I am from spain and in history at primary school in the 80s our teacher (he was a good teacher with modern methods) still was saying that us marine explosion was autocaused by the us. There's still some kind of resentment in spain for what is called "el desastre del 98" but I really believe was the destiny to end european imperialism in south america. So, good thing Cuba was no spain anymore. But the problem with this war is the context of imperialism of the era. This is a problem not resolved yet, being Cuba a miserable dictatorship. I would like to see a real democratic and independent Cuba someday
Puerto Rico... Yep! Nobody mentions it, and there's a reason. The colony (oops sorry), the Unincorporated Territory of Puerto Rico with a Commonwealth Status was, and is the biggest prize the US got out of the "Splendid Little War". On the other side of things, I liked pretty much your explanation of things. Keep on looking, you might hit the truth I actually live in. :)
real quick i got regents right now in January 21st and i want to know what is a quick tip to go over the basic material and how should i not over study?
In your opinion do you believe this was the birth or american exceptionalism? Also how do you think WW2 would have looked if we never gave into this new idea of Imperialism?
I suppose The US was kinda busy with a civil war to do much, but what was American/ Confederate like sentiment towards the French installation of Maximilian I of Mexico?Seems like something that would pretty much spit in the face of Monroe Doctrine and make pro-US imperialists upset and along anti-imperialists who would be against those kinds of actions generally.
as a college student, I thank you.
me too!
If only most teachers were as didatic as this fellow. Thank you for posting this and the other ones. Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil!
panzerKO Cheers right back!

Procommenter well... that’s not part of the “Spanish-American war”. Those deaths were of the “Philippine-American war”.
Hey I am a teacher and I know what lmFao means, emphasis on the F. so this would be your warning. Gnome is having a fit over this.
great video... understand what the war was about now!
Check out the Spanish movie Los últimos de Filipinas about the grueling Siege of Baler where a bunch of Spanish soldiers did not surrender a fort for months because the commander didn’t believe that the war was over yet.

bloodandwinearered this is a review not a college lecture
You are talking like if the spanish were demons and you were saviours when it wasn't anything like that
I believe the word you were looking for @ 3:05- 3:09 is "metaphorically".
Congrats now go forth and kick ass.
I'm googling it because my grandfather was in it, also WWI and WWII. I was trying to get the time span. He died in 1967.

now this is a goddam teacher. thank you.
I'm in fucking grad school and I'm looking this up LOL
It was the Treaty of Paris but I would understand if you weren't sure because there have literally been about 100 Treaty of Paris's.
Hi I’m 77 years old and like this
I think you meant the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. Probably one that deserves giving the land back.
I was not struggling, and I'm in the fifth grade. I WAS JUST STUDYING ON A FRIDAY! Totally a normal thing
If you watch the Secret of Oz (Bill Still) you will get plenty of interesting events during that time. It's so important, not only to understand the moment of the History, but also the World we are living on today
I would have failed without this
Using "Ass Whooping" in academic discourse is always funny, well at least 95% of the time.
yeah "giant orgy of democracy" works well tho 9:05
except in a classroom
I am from spain and in history at primary school in the 80s our teacher (he was a good teacher with modern methods) still was saying that us marine explosion was autocaused by the us. Puerto Rico... Yep! Nobody mentions it, and there's a reason. What is the name of the violen tone in the beginning of the video?
7:33 lol that scared me so much for som reason 😆😂
In your opinion do you believe this was the birth or american exceptionalism? Also how do you think WW2 would have looked if we never gave into this new idea of Imperialism?
Watched this on the 115th anniversary of the Battle of San Juan Hill!
"Hey Europe this is ours. Totally can't colonize it yet!" Americans pause, "Oh... Oh yes we DID piss on it."
William James was also anti-Imperialist.

I'm in college and I don't know what the hell's going on!
"We're gonna do, but in a very special way." XD
THX
Cuba’s First War Of Independence, according to the Cubans replacing overlords, Spain with America.
Is there anywhere in the world that is 'free'?
*metaphorically.
