I rescued a derelict '62 GM bus that was in Pouce Coupe a few years ago. That bus the solenoid was only for engaging reverse, it still had all 4 forward gears. But then I spent 3 days working on it in my cousins truck shop in Grande Prairie and got the solenoid working and the throttle lubed up & freed. Then i drove it 850 miles down to the west Kootenays! It cruised at 70-75 mph easily all day long, with all 6 new tires!
Man, I just want to thank you (as a Brazilian) for all that patience and non-verbal communication! 😂😂😂 I am sure that this bus will be revived and I can't wait to see it been drived around here, in Brazil. 😊
Simpler to put it in reverse from the outside. You need to put the bus in first gear, then with the clutch depressed, useing a stick or rod between the axles on the driver's side, press against the solenoid arm while pulling the transmission from first back to second. Those solenoids were frequent fail items, even back in the early 1980s! The Solenoid only flips the function of second gear to Reverse. Without the solenoid you have all four forward gears as the default position for it is to engage 2nd gear. I would be shocked if that thing would move in that field in third gear! Even in in second the bus won't have enough torque to move much at all unless on smooth flat ground. I feel for that clutch. If I recall correctly 1st gear was 0 to 17, 2nd was 17 to 35, 3rd was 35 to 53 and 4th was 53 to 72. (Disclaimer: it's been 42 years since I drove one!)
Throttle pedal sticking usually is right at pivot at bottom of pedal itself.. all dirt. Water.. salts shit off feet.. spray pivot on pedal with kroil or PB Blaster with bus off.. work the pedal by hand a bunch..rinse and repeat.. get that lube worked into bottom pivot of pedal to help free it up..
All that gear grinding made me stiffen up so much. I would have sorted out the solenoids first. This is awesome though. I just found out about these buses and I've never seen any in person ever.
It should have a Williams Control air throttle so just squirting the piss out of the pedal should free it up. Check & see if the clutch brake is warn out or the pressure plate needs adjusting. I was screaming inside when he was ripping the tops off the gears!
Williams air throttle can be a nightmare on a bus thats still a manual trans.. my understanding anyways.. it doesnt let rpm drop fast enough for the shift to next gear i believe.
That bus is not going to be revived man. It is long long long long past revival. The entire purpose and time and effort the Grease Monkey and maybe his wife traveled however far and got tortured and froze for what ? to accomplish what ? You must agree they are somewhat insane and victimize themself''s with abuse.

I love the old Scenicruisers. I remember when they were in regular service in the 1960s. I had a Matchbox miniature also
Nice to see it moving under its own power. And way to go for assisting them with your time and knowledge 👍
Thanks 👍
Nothing but a smile, prayer and a couple hundred bucks maybe. Wow! Love it!
BEST BUS EVER. LOVE THAT DETROIT SOUND. RESTORATION ? I HOPE.
good on you for helping, James. it's gonna be weird going by there and not seeing the bus parked where it's been for years.
Wonderful to see an old Greyhound bus moving, even if it's a little sketchy!
I hope Scott from bus grease monkey is watching your progress. I love seeing you get it moving ! Keep up the great work
I hope so! Thank you.
Must have been a real treat in 1962 when Chester had a burrito dump right behind the driver.......good times😢😢😢
These are some very unique very cool videos -I’m so glad I stumbled upon them !👍🏻 thanks for sharing !
That was the type of Greyhound that Cary Grant rode out to "Prairie Stop" in Indiana to meet George Kaplan in "North By Northwest" in 1959.
I remember that. Now I have to watch it again. Classic. Thank you for sharing.

Sou de itanhaem sp posta vídeos todos os dias
That bus has as much chance making it to Brazil as i have of flying to the moon...and that's not a criticism.
You can do anything if you get off yer butt and just do it.
I've been pleasantly surprised many times in my life. I think he can do it.

could be the racks
Thanks you guys. It's freed up and works excellent it's lightning quick at the pedal now.👍
That bus was driven from Brownsville Texas to Spences Bridge BC in about 1989or 90 and has been a project ever since till this video

James, whatever happened to the Brazilian couple? They were supposed to drive the ‘56 Greyhound bus from Canada to Brazil. Did they ever make it..?

That poor clutch.

@@brentlance2379you just have to get used to a air throttle with standard transmission,I drove them for many years. 🇨🇦😎
But I’m sure that the 4501 did not have a air throttle, originally
Pedal is now free works great. Thanks😊
poor gears 🥴🥴🥴
I think I seen this on craigslist
More time under that hood will save alot later. It moves
Yes, for sure. It will happen.
Painful to watch the poor old transmission get brutalized.
Yes but kinda necessary. Now it can be properly worked on, solid level ground.
needs steam cleaning--inside and out!
