I learned "Going Up North" from a recording of John Jackson of Rappahanock County, Virginia. The percussive picking style I'm using here, I believe, was developed for accompanying dancers. My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & Odell The Luscomb banjo tuned a few frets below gDGBD.

😊i watch the slow steady beat of your right hand and wonder where all those myriad of notes comes from. Mind blowing!?
Most of the music comes from my left hand. It's an archaic playing style I inherited from George Gibson of Knott Coubty, Kentucky.
@CliftonHicksbanjo i see a lot of those pull offs and hammer ons now you say something
One day I'll be able to play that good, jeez
The song that made me learn old time style banjo playing
awesome 🔥👌 💨
Hoe down is the vibe right now
❤
first song i found was o death nd still continues to cook

Most excellent. That picking style is awesome.
OooooMeeOooooMy Those strings be soundin' sooo good poor boy. 🔥🪕🔥
GOIN UP NORTH!
Thanks for posting this, Mr. Hicks. I really appreciate the 432 currently sitting in a physical rehab facility, post surgery… And I truly believe the 432 is helpful. I need to heal ironic that I need my heel to heal. I guess I just have those gaingreen blues!
432 hz really does sound and FEEL more resonant to me tbh
Like I tuned my squier to 432hz and it seemed to have a LOT more resonance / sustain (harmonics) etc
Atmospheric!

We're here for it. Strong work brother!
Wow so effortlessly cool and catchy without trying to be any of those things 🎉
This is amazing. I can see why this what made you learn old time style
Enjoyed it as usual Clifton!
Would you ever perform at a folk fest?
I have in the past. Lately do not have the time.
That’s too bad all the folks I know in Alberta would kill to hear play
@@isaacribeiro1317 Glad to hear it! Tell everybody I said howdy.
My man! What type of nylon strings do you use?
Those are Aquila _New_ Nylgut. If you don't like those try La Bella No. 17 Nylon.
Fantastic
The best 🔥
The pull-offs on that bass slide to the 5th are so cool !
