From what I understood, Black Mesa did steal technologies from Aperture, and it wasn't just Cave being paranoid. You can even see the gravity gun and the health and energy stations from Black Mesa in Aperture in the Lab Rat comic.
I absolutely love how despite the combines nearly infinite knowledge and power across countless parallel universes, one eccentric shower curtain selling billionaire discovered the secret of instantaneous teleportation, something the largest and most feared civilization in the multiverse could never figure out despite their constant research. and now his greatest and most secret invention has been discovered and whoever gets it first could change the universe forever.
Afraid there are a few errors in this that I noticed. The use of the mentally ill and orphans was from and early version of Apertures history that was changed before the game came out. That was from a time when Cave Johnson was rather evil rather than just off the wall. They still used hobo's for tests though. She also has access to a large amount of resources and very advanced technology in many different fields. Thanks Templin Institute! :)
Decent overview of the history. You skipped over the 3 Tiers of the Counter-Heimlich Maneuver, the Take-A-Wish Foundation, and the Portal Project though. I do like how you can read all the ridiculous jokes and stuff in such a serious voice. Also the "high tech" shower curtains were made of asbestos. And the testing spheres. And the excursion funnels. Aperture really likes asbestos.
5:47 - The Aperture massacre happened about a week apart from the Black Mesa Incident, sometime in the 2000's - and it didn't happen on Bring Your Daughter to Work Day (though a tragedy did occur on that day years before, as well). Also thinking about HL2, I want a very good game based upon HL3 new engine before HL3 is released - about frickin' Vampires!
Don't forget the inter-universal portal technology Cave used to find the money needed to keep the company going... although maybe that was in a parallel universe...

Yeah, they share a universe, though *when* the Portal games occur in relation to the Half-Life games isn't specified. Portal 2, at the very least, is implied to take place long, *long* after Half-Life 2 and its lot, including the non-existent HL2 Episode 3.
There's been insinuations that the Borealis was supposed to actually appear in the Half Life games, perhaps leading to some shared universe moment, but that hadn't happened, and the closet it got was it's appearance in the Half Life 2 prototype. It was essentially added to Portal 2 as a mix of reference and sequelbait, but Valve can't count to 3.
@@gratuitouslurking8610 The Borealis is straight-up in Episode 2, Mossman found it and you see it in her message. They even name drop Aperture. It's supposed to be your destination at then end when you get ambushed and would have been where you ended up going in Episode 3 if Valve didn't stop making games.
I hope I live to see the game that brings these 2 together. The borealis has the portal gun. Hence why the combine would be searching for it. ( local teleportation tech ). I just need to see it

7:00 "All the effort in the world went to waste."
I caught that.
Aperture Science, we do what we must because we can; For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying until we run out of cake!
Templin: "In which all the effort in the world went to waste"
G-man: "And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste"
I'm on to you! The Templin Institute is under the control of the G-man!
I think I prefer Larissa to GLaDos. She seems less murdery
Only till you get to know her.
The Templin Institute true that...... who’s Larissa we need a doisser of this
@@storyman385 Yes we need a dossier for the narrators.
Did she also work on the Jäger program during the Kaiju War?
You seem to be under the misconception that 'less murdery' is a good thing.
"Best New Science Company"
What kind of company do you run?
Cave Johnson: Science.
Why use a hand grenade when you have a combustible lemon.
Yes don't forget a potato C-4 Charge
"After 12 years of development"
Twelve has the numbers 1 and 2 in it.

HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!
every time someone makes a hl3 joke, gabe pushes back the release date 1 month.
Well, maybe Madonna and her buddies, theKabbala teachers could somehow predict the exact release date for HL3?!
@@therudestofclouds2007 You just pushed it back another month you monster!
Well... Is not a Half Life 3 but we have Half Life Alyx
We can stop making these jokes now. They actually just confirmed it at the end of Half Life: Alyx.
6:17 The people of Aperture didnt abandon the facility, Glados killed them with neurotoxin and it happened years before the Black Mesa incident. The ones survived is Chell and Doug Rattman.
Also you didnt even mention that the Borealis was their key to beat Black Mesa for funding...
Great video. I can't imagine it was easy keeping a professional tone when talking about Aperture's development of shower curtains, so big kudos for that.
Loved that ending as well.
Space, I love space! Space is so big! SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
I'm reading this in my head with that robot's voice lol
Aperture Laberatories who doesn’t
fun fact: eventually, the reactor in a[eraure would run out of fuel and be forced into low fuel mode, where only 1/100000000 of the facility would be powered
Aperture science; we do what we must because we can
for the good of all of us - except the ones who are dead
Could you do a series on the Templar/Assassin orders from the Assassins Creed games?
TheIcelandicPrincess yes please!
But they actually existed. Though I suppose the organizations in the games have just been changed beyond recognition by this point...
Yes
"Regardless of any protests she might have, Johnston's dying command was to have Caroline's consciousness integrated into the complete AI..." I laughed far more than I should have! xD
Fantastic work as always! This fills in the missing pieces and confirms many of my prior theories about the origins and history of Aperture Science. Thanks Templin Institute! :)
I loved Aperture Science till my house got burned down by a lemon.
Portal and The Templin Institute. Two of my favorite things together
2:45 Whoa, the portal gun ('Quantum Tunnelling Device') contains a miniature black hole. Cool detail. And I love the dry humor in the 'notes'.
Thanks for doing one of my request and remember make life take the lemons back
burn his house down
jellios with the 🍋
Yes, also remember to demand to see Life's manager
I love that you say phrases like "enrichment shafts" with total seriousness.
I can confirm that this is 100% accurate couldn’t get enough of those moon rocks.
watching this just makes me think about how we haven't had a half life or portal game in 50 thousand years. its depressing.
2:43 don't forget they also removed tumors and replaced organs
Half-Life VR would work great for the 7 hour war, seeing as 7 hours is a fine game length and that it's supposed to be a prequel to HL2 but after HL1
You there bro?Your dream came true
"YOU MAKE HER!, She'll say she cant she's modest like that, but YOU MAKE HER!"
This was a triumph...
Huge success
5:47 - The Aperture massacre happened about a week apart from the Black Mesa Incident, sometime in the 2000's - and it didn't happen on Bring Your Daughter to Work Day (though a tragedy did occur on that day years before, as well). It happened on Bring Your Cat to Work Day. It says so very plainly in Lab Rat.

What the heck is a high tech shower curtain
*develops really cool shower curtains*

Definition of companies in a nutshell.
"As if all the effort in the worlld had gone to waste," Well, lets just say your hour has... come again.
Cave Johnson survived in a different timeline.
Human kind could use a "morals" upgrade!
I wouldn't be surprised if JJ abrams uses this for his movie research
I am GLAD to see Aperture Science on this channel. Even though I only played the first Portal, It would be interesting to see Aperture save the earth. Although that might be even more Dystopian. Still waiting for HL3, I hope it will be like DNF - only that when it eventually comes out it should be at least as good as HL2.
Also thinking about HL2, I want a very good game based upon HL3 new engine before HL3 is released - about frickin' Vampires!
Don't forget the inter-universal portal technology Cave used to find the money needed to keep the company going... although maybe that was in a parallel universe...
I like how Cave Johnson resembles Steve Jobs
the portal comic has a panel with the gravity gun in it, which implies that it was stolen by Black Mesa at some point and kept safe by Eli Vance after the 7-hour war
Any chance we can get a brief video on Doug Rattmann?
Ninjabread Man now THAT would rule
*employee falls to their death*
“We have a reproducible human error problem!”
*paramedics rush to the scene*
“A lot of expensive equipment getting broken.”
*paramedics pick up portal gun and leave mangled corpse*
I love this game so much.
I like Portal. I like the Templin Institute... BEST. CROSSOVER. EVER!
I already know all this lore but still you find a way to present it in a new, interesting video format. Thank you and god bless.
You guys always manage to interest me in the lore of games I’ve never played lol
It all started with shower curtains....
The slaughter
Did Aperture Science survive the Tyrium invasion and if so are their shower currents stranded for GTU showers?
@@locomotivefaox
I know this is an old comment but just to correct you, Portal takes place a couple years after the Combine's invasion of Earth. It's before Half-Life 2. GLaDOS took over Aperture a couple days before the Black Mesa Incident.
I sincerely gotta admire Templin Institute. You guys can describe the craziest stuff from the most ludicrous alternate universe without a single flinch, giggle or snort. Gotta admire that ability to keep a poker face.
Or "poker voice", I guess.
really liked their lemonade, hated it when it burned my house down tho
Borealis is not a ship, just a Project, It's a swarm of GLaDOS that was about transporting the human mind to digital. Virgil in the stories portal mel says that we were left alone in the resort because we all left because of the 'THIS SHIP'' which can testify not to the literal departure, but of their deaths. The ship got stuck in an ice wall as a large number of scientists tried to escape the ship
You clearly haven't played Half-Life 2 Ep: 2... they literally show The Borealis in it and you can definitely see it's a Ship...
Imagine if Cave met Grunkle Stan and they became friends....
Oh my.
portal and half-life lore is my lifeblood, so this video is an immediate win in my book. but i love the idea of presenting fiction in a straightforward newscast style. this channel is going places, without a doubt. needless to say you’ve gained a sub. let me know if my journalism degree can ever be of use to you guys
In 1956 the Einsenhower administration signed a contract with Aperture Science, making them the sole manufactor of........ ˢʰᵒʷᵉʳ ᶜᵘʳᵗᵃᶦⁿˢ

Having the words at the beginning glitch in and out of outer rim text and aurebesh was awesome! Thanks for the starwars reference
Who wants to make 60 dollars? cash
Sounds spoopy. I'm in!
My favorite part in the portal series is when if you looked at one of the walls in an office, there is a poster of a yacht with a price tag of $60
The Templin Institute "randomly" comes out with an Aperture Science video. Half Life 3 lives!
Derlict equipment and legends you say.
And of course *a bit of tes-ting!*
"That's Portal, btw, it's Portal, that's what it's from."
OOH new video. AND Portal. Well I guess i know what to do now
I like how it takes the same place in the universe
THE CAKE IS A LIE
OUR ALLIES ASS IS A LIE!
delete this
I have seen the cake with my own eyes!
obligatory comment.
The 3 is A lie
I love that Half-Life and Portal are in the same universe.
hang on... Half life? This is based in half life?
Yeah it is in Half life universe.
Portal and Half Life are in the same universe
I just need to see it
I think you mean Half Life/Portal
Well, it's generally known as the Half Life universe, because it was the first game to come out
1:22 my favorite part of the facility is tne tu e network, as shown here. Its a neat transportation system that i think is overlooked alot
