Today, I will take you to visit the Lunch Lady that Anthony Bourdain recommended in 2009. I'm gonna Bánh Canh Cua, which is the Vietnamese tapioca crab noodle soup. Also, I will discover China Town in Ho Chi Minh city and eat broken rice in Ben Thanh Market.

Which one do you like better Bánh canh cua or Cơm tấm sườn?
Bánh canh cua
SG - com tam is a must….
What you ate has a longer name then just 3 words com tam suon…
It’s call com tam suon bi cha opla..
If you order com suon, expect rice and 2 pieces of pork and vegetable, and nothing else.
Both😬
*OMG!*
Bánh Canh Cua ... _DREAMSOUP!_
I am _certain_ that I would *love* this! I love all of the ingredients!
MMMMMMMMMMMMM~!
After Pho, I think Banh Canh is my next favorite.
Anthony Bourdain is the single reason I started looking into Vietnam. That episode made me begin the path that lead me to living in Vietnam. I was blown away at how kind the family was to him and how reverently he spoke about the Vietnamese people and their struggles post-"American/Vietnam" War. He ignited my passion for traveling and learning other cultures, his absence is truly a sad one. I'm very glad people still recognize and respect him.
Who is Anthony bordain?
@@kippsguitar6539 He was a celebrity chef. He became famous by doing world tour eating different cuisines.
First, That is Ho Chi Minh city, not saigon.
2nd, no chinatown in HCMC.
One of the things that Anthony bourdain said about Vietnam was that when you come there the first time, you knew within the very first minute your life has changed and your old life will never be good enough anymore. I tested that theory almost 3 years ago and he was absolutely right.
He's absolutely effing right. I watched his Vietnam shows after I was there in 2020, and I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been a single day since without me thinking about returning to this fabulous country.
Absolutely right. Vietnam has something the West has lost. The importance of family is one of them.
Many American still think Vietnam is a war zone .. until they land at Saigon airport .. and they never look back.
Dude was so cringe sometimes.
First, That is Ho Chi Minh city, not saigon.
2nd, no chinatown in HCMC.
I would love to visit Vietnam again. Such a vibrant society with an amazing food culture.

I've been there 5 weeks ago to honor Anthony Bourdain and his love for food and I have to say that it's truly one of best noodles tried in Saigon if not the best.i ate bún thái hài sàn and it was tremendously delicious and I also bought her book with all recipes inside. Thank you WTP for this content as always great. 🤟
First, That is Ho Chi Minh city, not saigon.
2nd, no chinatown in HCMC.
Depends on who are you talking to, for me is irrelevant absolutely, it's beautiful city and can't wait to go back there
love anthony bourdain! he came to our crawfish boil here in houston. he was one of the sweetest guy ever! he will truly be missed
He is truly missed.
Hello
Anthony who?
Can't get enough of this channel. On his last visit to Vietnam, Anthony Bourdain had pho with President Obama in Vietnam. Had Bourdain gotten himself a Vietnamese gf he'd be healthy and happy today...I miss him so much.
i from singapore as well and we love your channel for years
This is such a classic episode from you. We all miss Anthony Bourdain. I love Vietnamese food and culture. I will be in Vietnam in September so I can have a good time and eat some delicious Vietnamese food.
Bourdain was a mediocre chef who got lucky. He was pretentious and condescending. Look at his Penang Malaysia episode as one example. Typical liberal BS
Anthony who?
Amazing video by Ms. Van Vu. She introduces so much of Vietnamese food and culture to us. Com tam suon is one of my favorite dish.
Really glad I found this channel, such lovely, uplifting videos about a country I cannot wait to visit!
My wife and I ate at the Lunch lady back in August 2019 at the exact table you sat at. We were so excited to find that she was set up a few mins walk away from our Air bnb accommodation. It was our first lunch in Vietnam. We are finally making it back in August 2022, but staying in district 1 next time.. The lunch lady is in a very local area and too far from the tourist aera.
We visited Vietnam in 2019 and just planned a return trip for Tet. Your videos are very informative and helpful for planning the next adventure.
Glad it was helpful!
Damn your English is flawless. I am telling you that as a person that lives in the U.S for over 30 years. My English still have an accent
Hello how are you pretty
You are so brave. Eating a noodle soup while wearing a white shirt. I always get little splashes on my shirt whenever I eat noodle soup.
Omg that bowl of banh canh cua looks amazing. It’s definitely a piece of art! I miss Anthony B. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are amazing. I miss Vietnam so much. I will definitely go to Lunch Lady to try that delicious looking banh canh cua when I come to Vietnam next time.
Thanks for this video everything looked so good, miss watching Anthony Bourdain
Vừa xem vừa học hỏi được tiếng anh ,biết thêm được những nơi và văn hóa vùng miền mình chưa biết.Thanks em !!!!
Square space ! Thanks for Sponsoring a great video 👍🏻
Wonderful video… thanks. I ate at The Lunch Lady today! Arrived just before opening time of 10:00 so was her first customer and added bonus, it was Saturday so had the dish you had the first half of the video … what an incredible neighborhood, too, with some many local street food places.
Love watching my favorite youtuber, your enthusiasm is all your content is amazing, plus that food looks so yummy!
We were there on 19 march 2024. From Oz.🇦🇺. Amazing foods
wow. Just awesome. You should be the ambassador for Vietnam. I love your videos. the food looks yummy. Cant wait to visit.
Some Canadians visited the Lunch Lady and liked it so much they paid her for the recipes and opened one up in Vancouver. Pretty good pho but it's $15 CAD a bowl.
Cho Lon is quite an interesting place; it is also the setting for the novella / film, The Lover.
Great video and also you're a good storyteller I enjoyed very much
Looking forward to being back at the Lunch Lady in September when I’m back in Saigon. Last time was in a Saturday so had the same dish as this video… wonderful!
Great show. Great smile. Great content.
Correction - The 2nd meal is call
Com Tam Suon Bi Cha Opla.
Not Com Tam Suon.
People might order wrong if you put com tam suon, when the plate is a little different.
People will think com tam suon will come with bi cha opla everytime they order com tam suon.
Hope you fix it.
Banh Canh Cua really is special treat in our family! That looks so tasty!
🤩
Oh, my mouth is watering already.
Love this video. I was lucky enough to be eating in the Lunch Lady the day Anthony Bourdain filmed that episode. Great place to eat.
Its average at best bro
Oh wow your now in Chinatown in Saigon I can of wanted you to that
[Gosh Dang!!!!]
Wow the soup looked so good, the broken rice looked great as well.
Video rất thú vị!!

This channel simply introduce SO MANY cool things about Vietnam - Every single video makes me go: " WHAT~~ The "PHO" ! So cool " 🙌
These dishes look truly amazing, Vanvu. I know little about Vietnamese cuisine but I am now very curious to have a go at it, most likely in November 2022.
I met Phuc Map there at Bên Thành Market. I love the Che there too. Keep up the amazing contents Van. Love your channel
I m planning to come visit next year with a group of people. Thanks for sharing all the good spot.
7:37 I often eat this in the morning here in Can Tho City 🇻🇳. It’s the usual breakfast. 🤗🍛 (with “banh mi sandwich” 😅 of course).
I love how happy you eat, always giving the thumbs up and dancing your happy dance on your chair. Hanoi looks good for visiting, for sure.
It’s SG/HCMC lol
Glad you are in Saigon.... please show more of Saigon... Thanks..
I had that noodle once about 10years ago...still remember the taste of joy 😊👍
Thanks Van love your storytelling.
The Luch Lady offers a different food dish each day for 7 days, and I have tried them all. Each of them was uniquely tasty, but they were all light, flavorful and delicious. No wonder Anthony Bourdain recommended the Lunch Lady.
Great video, Van.👍
Great video!!!
Thank you so much for filming this lovely video. Lot's of love ❤️ from northeast India.
Dễ thương quá à. Chúc em ngày mới tràn đầy niềm vui và hứng khởi.
Great video. Keep the good job !
I was so scared for your white shirt when you were eating banh canh cua because I’m a messy noodle eater 😆
That's so funny
You ate all of my favorites. I have been to all those places except China town. Love it!
Southeast Asia is so beautiful but the heat is vicious. It zaps the energy right out of me as soon as I step out of the hotel lobby.
Very informative, one of your fans here
Your English is getting much better and beautiful as usual, take care and stay safe
She attended college in Michigan.
I💕your flips!
Always enjoy watching your video!
Hi Van,I have been to China Town in Saigon 4 years ago, it’s not like traditional China Town but there are many good Chinese foods. Your video let me know more about Vietnam, you are pretty and nice girl who can give people positive attitude. Can you see hi to me?
went to the lunch lady back in 2012.
Try Mì Thiệu Ký 66/5 Lê Đại Hành, P. 7, Quận 11, TP. HCM. They have been around for decades. They do make their own mi in the back room but check with them when if you want to film them.
Oh my goodness ! That bowl of bánh canh cua looks unreal, I can’t never find anything like that here in the states 🥲🥲
The way you hold the chopsticks is funny at the same time.
Look an extra cute today Van !!!
I like your Hanoi accents, it sounds smooth and easy to understand 👍
This is awesome! 💖 Too bad you couldn't meet and film with the Lunch Lady.
Thank you em...nice to listen your videos
Four years ago, I came here immediately after I checked in hotel, at about 2-3pm. But she was already closed. I'm from Singapore also. 😄
Thank you , I didn't know Bánh Canh Cua , have to try soon !
You are amazing and full of joys.
The two Singapore men are so cute 😊
You look more and more elegant every time
Wellcome to sai gon, i hope you have a great time :)
I just returned from Vietnam 1 month ago, I wanna go back again 😂
Great tip about slurping. How do you know so much about bánh canh cua? I thought northern cuisine doesn’t have it
Thank you for telling the story behind com tam!
gonna go to her Wednesday. that's my 30th birthday. ahhh gonna be my lunch 😃
1. You're brave to wear a white shirt when you eat that. I can never keep mine clean.
2. Even if they do provide napkins, they're usually so thin and wimpy, as they are in Thailand. Great idea taking wet wipes.
Wow so beautiful! So much delicious food too! I love watching your videos Van! ❤
Ngon quá con ơi ! Chú rất thích món này con à!!!
great channel, always making me hungry😋
Anthony Bourdain was the ultimate traveler chef… 👨🍳🥭🌱 he is so missed… 🥺 but remembered for so much good! 😁😁😁
Never heard of him
Hi, Van Vu. I just found your channel, and I'm obsessed. Your videos are so good. 💕🍜
I like that you use “con” instead of “cháu” when you’re in the south! I respect that 😁
Hi Von Vu..., Bright, intelligent and attractve... * Excellent video and very informative, and I miss "Anthony Bourdain," too... I ( never ) liked "Pork"... until I came to Vietnam..., and what they put into the pork recipe in bowls made it GREAT ! ! What they put into the ( bowl ) with pork is impressive..., all the "fresh vegetables" ( many types ), including rice..., made the dish ( bowl ) taste fantastic and brought out the favor. It was delicious... * I want another bowl... LOL Amazing video, and thank you for sharing the video... I miss Vietnam... Mike in Montana :) :)
banh canh cua looks perfect
The food looks so good.
The Chinatown building is not hong Kong style. It's called Bauhaus or mid century modern.
Hi Beautiful, thanks for sharing the incredible clip.
Hi Von Vu..., I knew "Anthony Bourdain" and miss him deeply... Sad... Sad for all... "Anthony Bourdain" came to historic Uptown Butte, Montana a lot and enjoyed the ( Old Wild West ) Saloons with beautiful wooden back bars, built in the late 1800s... And there was one restaurant that he really liked... * it was called the "Pekin Noodle Parlor"..., the first ( 1st ) Chinese restaurant in historic Uptown Butte and the state of Montana, and still ( OPEN ) today... We were at the famous "Silver Dollar Saloon" in historic Uptown Butte with a beautiful wooden back bar built around 1865. * I asked "Tony"... "What or where is his ( BEST ) place for food ?" and he said..., "Vietnam." He loved "Vietnam." Excellent video and excellent information, and thank you for sharing the video... * "You are bright, intelligent, and attractive..." I really enjoyed the video and once again..., thank you for sharing... I miss "Vietnam," too... Mike in Montana :)
“I love Vietnam. I love it now. I loved it from the minute I arrived for the first time.”
I have to finish watching this tomorrow. haha
You could setup a food tour group. So are you now in Saigon or Hanoi? I have been to both places, and especially love Hanoi.
Darn it, that looks frigging awesome
Hi. I will be visiting your country, your place. Hope to see you too.
I went online and people said it was tourist trap, but it seems not bad after all
Largest rats I've ever seen around there
Bị nghiện bài này từ thời Bảo Thy, ko ngờ lại có ngày được nghe idol mới trong lòng mình Đức Phúc cover lại. Cảm ơn em ĐP vì đã cover lại lắng đọng cảm xúc như vậy
Great content keep it up love your videos
Amazing ❤️
I finally visited Hanoi. I ate some crazy things (snail, worms, insects) and I saw a "what the pho" shirt hanging in a random shop window. I wondered if this was connected to you, coincidence, or inspired by you.
"What the Pho" has been around for more than 10 year. It's a catch phase commonly used in California at the time. There was restaurant in Huntington Beach with this name. She didn't come up with the line.
Great video. I am now so hungry!
This is another beautiful video, as always thanks for sharing. I find it most interesting that you also have a hearty appetite and enjoy eating Seafood which is my primary protein other than chicken. By the way, the shrimp looked delicious! May I ask a question at :56 you mentioned a type of egg did you say crow egg? I enjoy eggs very much as well and we just wondering if I have never tried these. Or perhaps you said quail egg? LOL
Quail
Banh Canh doesn’t use crow egg..
BANH CANH CUA in a white shirt..... talk about living on the edge 😂
Khi nào về, đi Hải Phòng làm bánh đa cua đi, nhiều đồ hải sản e thích đấy
Thái?
