Mate your are a diamond. Having checked out by now god knows how many videos on self-cutting or more specifically fading. Yours has been the best because you have used the "Heband" as you colloquially call it. I am grateful because I am fully aware that as a professional barber your self would never use such an item when doing your own self-cut.
As someone who is unfortunately in my sixties and totally reliant on a low disability payment now, I can not continue to pay currently a certain people £25 for such a cut, yes a pony here in South London, because being ex-military, as far as I'm concerned it is a good professional clean back & side, as our American cousins refer to it as "Crispy". This current cost is just too much especially when I know they are not even paying tax for half an hour's work.
Then because of this high cost, what happens, I can't afford to get a haircut & months later ending up looking like a paraffin lamp, no disrespect as I've lived on London streets, but you get my meaning I hope. Hair all over the place totally destroys your own confidence. I eventually go there paying a pony which breaks my bank, not everyone is a rich tory .
Anyway, I digress cheers have subbed & will be checking out your other videos on self cutting.
Hey I totally respect anyone who takes the time to learn new skills and can do things for themselves. And also no idea how anyone affords to live in London. Must cost a fortune across the board.
I just tried this and I can't believe because of this amazing video I learnt how to do a zero fade. You've honestly helped me so much! Amazing video!!!!
Im glad it helps. Love a success story
Been cutting my own hair for years and it’s good to know I had the right technique
Can I use round cap
This video is perfect. I’ve looked at tutorials before this video was uploaded and they never gave me the confidence to do it . With this video I now have the confidence . Thank you !
Just attempted this. The results are probably better than the last time I went to the barbers. I bought a fade guide band but the edges are a bit thick on it. I Ended up using a head torch the higher I went up the head 🤣. This tutorial really simplifies getting a good fade. Cheers
Thank you
just tried this method using a swimming cap, and got great results ,thanks for sharing 🙂👍🏻
Love a success story. 👍👍👍
Thank you! You shaved me money! Had one laying in the dishwasher for years figuring out when I’d need it
@Alexander Sprout That's where I keep all my swimming hats too.
@@Liam25025😂😂
You destroyed him a bussines 😅
I use a similar technique but I use thin head bands with a depth of just 5 mm. When I've done my first cut, I then position the second head band around the head copying the same curved line as the first, I have it just sitting above with about a 2 mm gap all the way around making sure that it isn't over lapping the first band. I then pull the first band down so it is dangling around the neck area & I'm ready to do my next cut, then the same with the third, fourth, fifth until eventually I run out of space, I then do a manual cut around with a grade 1.5, with a grade 6 on top leaving the fringe over an inch long, the end result is a kind of military hair cut look which I prefer.
Great video.
I’m trying this method but it seems the bands move around a lot.. I’ll try adding a space next time
Why do it this way instead of the way in the video? Maybe I’m not getting it completely
Mate! I am very grateful that you have shared this idea. I have been cutting my boys hair and my own hair for years, and this is what I have been looking for to overcome my lack of skill. Thank you.
The shot with the camera on the clippers is next level, thanks man
Thanks John 😀
I moved to America in January. I tried a different barber today. He did a good job but charged me $35. I'm not paying that going forward, so I'm currently researching to do it myself.
Thanks for the video.
25 bucks regular man haircut in north Texas.

Just bought the Heband and followed your video...another success story. Thanks for making this video!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great instructional DIY video. Thanks!
Thank you so much and thank you for the super thanks ♥😊
Cheap bastard! A haircut is $20. He saved you a lifetime of haircuts & all u give him is $2. LMFAO. hahahahha..🤣🤣
Great vid buddy. Been doing my own hair for a few years now and have struggled to fade properly even with a band. I also like how you show all steps fully. No time jumping.
I glad to hear it helps. Let me know if the technique works for you
What clip was that you picked up from the draw? You didn’t mention it
your production quality is getting really great. amazing video, thank you!
Thank you Aaron. I try to learn at least one new editing skill every time I put a video out. 😁
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. Easy the best video I've seen on this topic!
Thanks so much for your help on this
You're very welcome!
I bought a fading culture 2.0 like a clipper that gives a fade with one swipe. Well I'm afraid to do it because I might come out crooked. So I looked on eBay or Amazon on this silicon head band. I was thinking about using that as my guide just presses against the head band. Just follow it. Since I think it is thick I won't go over it. Plus that a cool idea using a camera to see it from the back end. Since looking at a mirror is very tricky on the eyes
I hope the band helps, let me know how you get on
@@theoneminutebarber sure thing I'll let you know if it works or not
Did it work? I've been curious about the fade culture clippers and have contemplated trying it. How'd you like it?
Thanks yet again. I refer back to this video often!
My pleasure!
Thanks for sharing the video, it's been 5 months since I am cutting my own hair, thanks to this great video
You're so welcome!
Thank you mate makes fading so simple thank you 👍🏼
Could this work for a drop fade? I just ordered a clipper/ trimmer gonna give this a go thanks cuz!
Might be hard to do in a drop fade as you’d have to form the band to the shape of the drop. It’s worth a try
How did you do?
Thanks King !! You are always on top of your game !
What guide did you use last please? You was using a number 2 then you went to the draw and swapped it but didnt mention what size guide. Im having issues doing fades for my self. Cant seem to get ride of the fade lines. Great video by the way. Ive never tried with a band on my head. It should help massively.
The last clipper guard was a 4.5 mm or a #1.5
Some clippers have them, if you don’t have one you can get the same length with a #1 and the lever down.
I hope my reminder/notification works this time, I missed your last few video premieres 😭 (I watched afterwards, of course, but it's just nice to watch the premiere with others 😊).
Reminder set - 43 hours & counting!! Will be back - I need my OMB fix 😁✂️💈
Hope all's well, Michael.
Take care and stay safe everyone!!
The Dawg 😉🇨🇦🤙🏻
Hey Dawg, it's so good to hear from you. I've admittedly been a little quiet on you tube as I was on holiday for a couple of weeks. Glad to be back though. I have another video in the pipeline also, which is a cut on a client that is hopefully coming out next week if I can get the editing started.
good job filming this video. I think you even added an action camera to your clipper
I did. I had a go pro on the clipper.
I like the long on top with super short on the sides without blending it
Ok
I’m in Australia and we don’t have the Heband, as I watch the video, I realise that swimming cap would probably work the same way but will have to test it out
I also thought of a swimming cap too. It's very similar. They will post to you though I reckon if you hit them up on Instagram
One more quick question:
About how much (distance wise) are you moving that Hband up each time you blend/pass would you guesstimate? I bet it’s not exact science, and perhaps matter of taste, or perhaps even where you want the fade to start?
To follow … Where is the best/ideal spot to start the cut, ie the “ideal” spot to place the band’s line on back of head? (I suppose this could also depend on how high you want the fade?) Or in general looks wise, is this ideal line placement roughly the same for all? Say … roughly X inches from hairline for most ?
Lastly, if above is true, does this “ideal” starting line change if you’re dealing with “longer” haircut/style goal yet still want the slick and pro fade/blend showcased here.
If, for instance, you want a #2/3 guard length as starting base, but want to fade up into maybe #3/4 guard length, how does this style, if at all, change the distance you move up the Hband each time, and how does this impact guard changes frequency.
What’s this process like?
I suppose the eye test tells you alot, but any tips/guides for the “longer” hair scenario?
Sorry, I know this is a lot to muddle through. No hard feelings if can’t reply directly here. You’ve just got me so dang fired up now! As someone who’s been cutting my own hair for awhile now, I struggle with back side still.
Maybe next video is the same fade guide but with #2/3 length faded into #3/4?! 😊😊😊
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love your work.
Keep up the channel. Can see big things for you.
Also, where again do I find the link to your academy? Love to check it out!
I think it’s going to be a different decision for every person depending on style I think the longer that you want the top then the lower you need to start. However with a #2 or above I wouldn’t use the he band as it would flatten the next section too much and become difficult to blend at that length
@@theoneminutebarber you’re the best. Thanks for all the quick feedback. Didn’t quite expect it to be honest. Above and noting, my friend.
Wish i had the bollox to do this. Great job mate.
You can do it! Just do it. 💪😃
11:16 this is the most important part, because when i took of the band i looked like a monk, i almost shaved my head bald, then i tried with 4,8mm n 6mm and it actually blend in, not perfect but not terrible also, also im using babyliss clippers theyre a bit different, and youre balding on top my friend, u should try my protocol (0,3mg finasteride+monoxidil 2/day +microneedle)
That combination of drugs can also be really bad for you. They can cause depression and suicidal thoughts. I looked into them before but possible side effects outweigh the benefits for me.
@@theoneminutebarber i take 0,3mg every other day , still works with no side effects
When I was cutting my own hair, I made one of these from a resistance band.
I cut my hair twice a month before the pandemic at $12 a cut.
Now that barbers are charging $25-$35 despite knowing the pandemic is over I am cutting my hair every 3 months now.
Barbers are losing business and I am saving money. Now I am learning to cut my hair myself to save time and even more money.
Just ordered one to try this out. Thanks again for the info and tips.
Good luck with it Gaz 👍👍👍
how did it go
Holy smokes… I think I did it! Thanks very much for your tips!
🙌🙌🙌🙌
so cool that you can do this yourself.
Thank you 😊
Wow... heband🤔. Never thought about it. Perfect. "Mirrorfree" haircut 👍
They can be quite helpful. It gives a little bit of a safety net from accidental clipper slips
Got worried when it started lifting .. but I think I’d be open to try
Could you do the same technique but with a 2>3>4 grade at the top, then taper it with a 1 at the bottom? How far up would each grade/blend be in that case please mate?
Of course Sy, infact it would be even easier as the longer the number the more forgiving.
You could just move the heband to equal distances from the bottom to the top for your four grades.
If I usually go for a 1-3 size guard on my sides, do you think this band will help or is it not worth using with bigger guards?
It won’t help with bigger guards.
Great video and the camera angle you used made it seem like I cut your hair 😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You hella kept going under your band! my broski must be Litty! 🌚 Yoooo am doing this technique and my haircut looks the best I’ve done so far , since I’ve been cutting my own hair. This makes makes your lines clean af I just used a wig cap to do it and it was great
Will round cap work
So does this step by step elimate attacking any guide lines without band ? Thank you
Paul
It’s probably not ideal for everyone, the darker your hair the more you’ll need to pick away at lines
Ok thank you mate
I done today and used one guard shut to pick at lines but it was easyer as I followed your vidoe 👍🏼
I noticed you managed to accomplish your cut with Jess using the up method and you didn’t even need to do any down cuts? Just stumbled cross you and love the vids 👌 I ordered the Wahl Senior you used in your other vids.. thanks friend )
Thank you and great choice on the wahl senior. They are the best.
Brilliant. Fantastic stuff & channel!
Quick question:
You were on the #2 blade, and at 13:57 you switched blades.
Was this simply a swap out for better #2 or (like the quick and swift pro you are) did you notice a missed spot and switch go back to a #1 to blend more?
Not trying to nitpick too much but love your stuff. Just want to best understand your teachings.
BTW … You should teach @ barber/Cut-hair-like-a-pro school. It’s a natural gift, evident even on camera.
Kudos. Thanks. Again. Much love ✂️
Exactly that Matt I felt like I was left with a line so went back one step and grabbed the next guard down.
I’ve not heard of that education platform before so I will go and check it out. Thanks for all the kind comments
I wish i had learned this trick sooner
Your videos inspired me to buy a haircut machine, so I’m going to do this:) Could you please explain which position of lever should be chosen when using guards from this tutorial? And thanks so much for the tons of useful videos!
Hey Eugene, good luck with your own self haircut. If you keep an eye on the top left of the screen, you can see a blue box with clipper sizes popping up and whichever size I am on will be highlighted in black.
@@theoneminutebarber Oh, yes that is totally clear. But I’m asking about this trigger on the haircut machine if it should be closed or open or in the middle when you are on the specific clipper size:)
If it is closed it will be the exact length of the clipper guard. If it is open it will add 1.5mm to the length of the guard. This is helpful for graduating up in to longer hair. In the middle you get a smaller adjustment. I normally use the middle position if a line forms between the open and closed position to see if I can rub it out.
@@theoneminutebarber clear now, thank you very much!)
Dude you are awesome! Love your tutorial.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you ☺️
Can I do the hair cut with an ordinary clipper - that I can go up and down 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? (No 0.5 and 1.5)? Does it HAVE to be a Wahl?
+ How long does a self hair cut take for a non experienced self cutter would you estimate?
Hair bad... I tried a resistant band, I cut and tried fitting over my head. It just kept falling off! I''l try and get the one you give a link to.
Thanks for the awesome video.
You can but for the 1 into 2 you would need a clipper with a lever. That gives you a half size in-between
Every fade video I've seen starts from a zero at the back and then works it way up in numbered increments. I don't like a complete skin fade at the back, I like to start with an. open no. 1 guard and finishing with a no. 4 on top, but I can never truly get rid if the line between the two lengths; there's always a hint of the line no matter what I try...
Have you got a taper lever on your machine. That’s the thing that will run out the lines.
U can't go too hard when making a line it will be harder to get out and use the corner of the clippers when trying to take out that line
What are the advantages of using a heband over any other ol headband? I was thinking about using my headlamp headband to try and give myself a fade....
That would work too.
That's cool , ur cutting hair , as well as explaining and recording at same time ...
Thanks a lot 😊
i use same ,with swimming caps :)
Think I will wait until the next lockdown
I've really been trying to find any type of video that shows anything at all about fading or cutting hair on a person that has a flat spot or flatter shaped back to there head and how to hide it or make it less noticeable.
I don't have anything like that but will try and mention it in future video.
When you did the #2, you showed 6mm but you had the lever open instead of closed? Should it be closed? Also would have been nice to see the final full fade shot. Thanks
It’s definitely possible I made a slight mistake there. If the lever is down then it’s definitely a 2.5
the best way to do this is to have a couple fo shots first, and then a few more as you go along
I had a question about the camera you used for the clippers? I would like to get a camera I can mount to the clippers cause I have difficulty with the mirrors where everything is backwards and help would be greatly appreciated, also I did buy a small wireless camera but it could not do close ups.
This is a GoPro hero 6
Lol I used a ball cap the other day. The hardest part to me is making the guideline if that’s fucked up it goes downhill fast
Did it work out ok in the end?
@@theoneminutebarber not really lol. I’ve found it takes a lot more time than I allotted.
Thanks for sharing
dostum önerebileceğin en iyi şaç kesme makinesi nedir ?
Wahl Senior. Simply the best clipper ever made.
Teşekkür ederim ve seni ALLAH’a emanet ederim.
Would fading from a bigger number (ie. 1 guard) require as much blending work or would it naturally blend easier without having to go back and work on the transition lines as much?
It’s normally easier the larger the guard. But I wouldn’t use a heband for larger numbers.
PS. This answer appears to maybe answer some od my earlier questions, and if so, disregard those posts please.
Thank you. Again
I'm having trouble connecting the sides to the top..there's always an overhang even when I go up a guard..any tips?

Lol... you can use just about anything to put around your head., back in the day, 35 years ago I would tie a 'shoestring ' around my head, n adjust it as I go... so this headband thing ain't nothing new..lol.. reminds me of the old bowl cut... lol..
True. Anything that works as a guide is totally fine if using this method.

Sorry! Yet another question for you. When I got to my barbers I have had a number 3 cut in the past. Does this mean that number 3 is the smallest number used and then he goes up longer towards the top of the hair or is it the other way round? I don't believe I've ever had my hair too short so I'm guessing the former but just wanted to check before I go and make myself bald!! 😂 Thanks.
A number three will be the shortest and that is most likely the length you have on the sides.
@@theoneminutebarber Thank you so much for the reply, it's very much appreciated. That helps lots, thank you.
When you moved the no.1 was the lever opened or closed?
Closed
Great vid! Went though all the comments and didn’t see it but what’s the name of the song in your video? 😅
Now you’re asking. Honestly I have no idea. I use epidemic sound and envato for royalty free music. Normally I just try and find something chilled
Hi thank you for this video. I have a question this might sound a little strange but lets say you use the fading band but you dont knock out the fade lines so you have a few lines at the back of your head and just leave it. I know it wouldnt look too good for a couple of months but would it eventually naturally blend in later down the line ? Or would it still be noticeable say 6_ 8 months later? Forgive me if that doesnt make much sense LOL. I have a fade band and can never get rid of the lines for some reason. 😂
That’s a totally acceptable question. I reckon any lines that are left would disappear within a couple of weeks. Mistakes on fades are mostly noticeable because of the skin colour. But the more stubble that comes in the less the fade is visible
@@theoneminutebarber thank you my friend. I appreciate you very much. Thank You for the reply.
Can this be done without a levered clipper? Or is there a different technique that needs to be applied?
You really need the lever for this I’m afraid. It gives you smaller increments to move to your next line with. It may be quite difficult to do this without a lever
Would it be the same if i were to start on a 2 guard and go into a 3? (Ive never had a fade before and thought id try it but i wanna keep some length to it)
yes fine but I wouldn't use the band for that
Super ❤
😊
It is good idea! But how this head band is named? I want to try it
It is called the Heband there is a link in the description for the video where you can find it
@@theoneminutebarber Thank you very much)
first time you use the number 1 @ 6:43 is the level fully open or closed, you didn't mention this
At this point the lever was closed.
Fabulous!!!
thank you, good info and showcase, i must say tho, your IG is one minute barber and you say you work slow on purpose which is kinda hilarious name :D
😂😂😂 I know. The name just doesn't fit. But too late to change it now. 😂⏰
I thought I was nuts when sort of did something similar using my baseball hat.
Great minds think alike.
can you make a updated video of this?
Im unlikely to make any more self haircut videos. Unfortunately I’ve lost so much hair in recent years.
nice video, would you say its worth buying the heband or just carry on using my 360 mirror?
It depends, if you want to do a fade the heband helps with guidelines, but if you are confident in making your own lines the. You won't need it.
@@theoneminutebarber thanks for the reply, just thinking it would make easier to get the taper from behind the ear to the back perfectly even on both sides with it
Honestly anyone who tries this has lost the plot.
The best method is get to a decent barbershop, sit in the chair, enjoy getting your haircut and a decent chat. Stand up, reach into your pocket, take out cash, hand it to the barber and tell him to keep the change. Walk out and feel like a man.
Odd question I’m sure, but got everything to start cutting my own hair, have a couple small skin tags on back. Will 1/2 guard go over them without ripping them off? Thank you!!
I think you will be fine with that. The issues is will the skin tags be thin enough to fit through the teeth of the clipper. I’ve never seen it happen with a guard on
What camera are you using that you have on the clippers?
Go pro hero 6
Will this work with a regular hat?
maybe if its a tight fit
8:30 what can I do if I don't have an 1.5 guard in my trimmer set?
Good question. You can loosen the bottom blade and set it ever so slightly forward then re tighten it. This might give a better range with the half blade. And knock out the line.
Hi, great video, how can i buy the heband?

Thank you ☺️ at least better than when I started. I’ll take that 😁
The band has a major flaw mainly, the band has a straight edge when, in theory would be better to be contoured/tapered/ curved going down. That way you place the lowest part of the band just under the occipital bone and then the fade guide would be more natural and curved. The current setup of the band just looks like a basin cut and you could get the exact same effect by just using a large rubber band that costs 20p. Verdict an overpriced, shilled piece of BS that's bulk ordered from China and has 'HEBAND' printed on it and prob costs around £1-2 per unit if not less and then, the price is marked up to £10.
A curved band would definitely work better.
