When I was a kid (born I 1980 so mid to early 90's) my grandparents would take me here a few times every summer and this and Fire in the Hole we're my two faves. I'd ride em over and over again. I've always loved history so a theme park where the setting is in the past was sooooo much fun for me. I was a lucky kid to get to go as much as I did. My grandparents were the best.
0:57 - 1:15 Love that song! Welcome to the mine, yay, welcome to the toil! Welcome to the trouble, 'neath the earth 'n' soil! Sweat a little water, you'll sweat a little blood, And you might get out, if the mine don't flood!
I remember this ride from the times I traveled with either my family to fish on nearby Table Rock Lake or with my church youth group. It scared me because of being trapped underground with all the flooding. The mannequins were also scary. I seem to remember more animation from the mannequins, though. I want to go back and relive some of my childhood someday. It’s on the bucket list.
Yes, some of the animatronics are showing their age and don't move as much as they once did. It's still a fun ride, and I hope you can experience it again soon!
normally you have a boat full of people shooting those laser guns at the targets and setting off animations. a quiet solo ride through like this isn't typical. (you can here the noises of another boat of people using the guns in the background, that "chirp-twing" noise)
Went to SDC with my best friend Mark in the 70s and we must have rode this ride a dozen times straight - then couldn’t stop humming the tune. It was great to see this, decades later, and remember those good times!
Y’all did a good job on this love the detail y’all captured on this what’s funny I showed my friend this and he said he isn’t getting on this he said all he hears are bats even after I told him those were the guns you shoot anyway great job as always god bless and have fun
I remember this ride so much! I went every year from 89-98. Wasn't there a part where one of the mine cars was coming at you? I also remember the big saw blade area going dark and then it looked like was coming at you too. I also remember the falling rocks and a big water spray at the end. This was definitely a trip down memory lane!
I'm happy you mentioned the falling rocks.. My gma told me about it when we'd go but I never got to see them obviously.. any idea why they were taken out??
The falling rocks aren't in the ride anymore. Also the saw blade is still there but now the area lights up when it comes at you. I also think that when the tnt explosion happens is when the mine cart comes at you. Do you know why the falling to ks were taken out? I also don't think the water spray is there at the end but there is a water spray close to the end.
My family went to Silver Dollar City back in December and I can say with absolute certainty that this ride is in a BAD state of disrepair. We also rode Fire in the Hole for the last time without even knowing it. I have heard a rumor that it’s gonna get a whole new building. If this ride ever closes, I hope it gets a new building too
I love Blazing Fury it’s a sister ride to Fire in the Hole at Dollywood formerly Silver Dollar City. They took out flooded mine years ago and I miss it so much. 😊
I can tell you that this attraction is Pirates Of The Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin mixed with an old prison mine. A true Silver Dollar City masterpiece.
I’m a hardcore coaster enthusiast yet I still prefer this ride over a LOT of coasters, it’s actually my second favorite ride at sdc (Wildfire being number 1)
I miss the way the ride used to be. This was always my favorite ride (second to the Diving Bell). I really didn't like it when they brought the shooting gallery in, plus, I miss the flashing lights during the tense parts of the ride and the rock fall at the end. I will always love it regardless.
I remember this ride when it was all automated and the animatronics would go off as the boats passed by. I seem to recall several of the mannequins originally were made to resemble famous people. I remember the duo at the runaway buzz saw originally resembled Loral and Hardy, and I seem to remember a Charlie Chaplin prisoner somewhere in there among some other famous celebrities. I still remember the celebrity prisoners even after they converted it to what used to be called "The Great Shootout" (I think it's called that but most have reverted to calling it "The Flooded Mine".
I went there with my family over 50 years ago (!). I really enjoyed that ride; but my recollection is that it didn't have the targets then, and the ride ended with a massive explosion (noise and flashing light). Perhaps they took that out 'coz modern kids are too easily traumatized?
Many years ago, this ride has had a few endings, including the explosion. It also had a “flooding” room where a large wall of water came down a slope towards the boats, but drained away in a hidden drain at the last moment. There was also a cave-in effect for a while in the tall tower area (where the prisoners are now climbing out using ropes). I remember the cave-in was cool, but it slowed down the ride as boats would stop in the tower area, sitting in the dark while an audio audio warned you of the possibility of a cave in, followed by the loud roar as foam rocks fell straight towards you overhead, illuminated by strobe lights. They were caught in a net. Unfortunately there were lengthy delays while the rocks reset (collected and lifted back to the top by belts) so o don’t think this effect was used very long.
It's not demented. It's just a ride in a flooding mine with prisoners doing their punishments, that's all. The ride is quite nice so if you ever go to SDC I recommend riding it!
The most nostalgic ride ever. They should never take this away
We love it, too!

When I was a little kid I was so scared of this ride because the dummies scared me! But now it is one of my favorites at SDC!
They are a little scary, but we love it, too!
The big saw blade thingy that spins at you used to scare me when I was younger
Couldn't have put it better my self
Me too. I was scared to death of the one at dollywood
0:57 - 1:15 Love that song!

Yeah, the ride just feels off without the crazy prisoner shouting "I'M GETTING OUT OF HERE NO MATTER WHAT!!" before exploding the TNT.

The little jingle keeps getting stuck in my head

Great memories!
I rode this when I was nine years old in 1968 the year it opened. I'm so glad to see that it's still in operation. ♥️♥️♥️
looks almost the same as when I was there in the eighties!
So Much Fun!!!!

Haha, no bats, we promise! 😂
Thanks for posting this video brings back great childhood memories 😊
Id love to go there. This brings back some ancient memories
Thsnk you!! This was always my favorite ride! Great memories
We love it!
would you ever do a video of fire in the hole at SDC? there's rumors that they're closing it and it would be nice to have a video to remember it by!
ONE OF THE BEST RIDES AT SDC !
Yes!!
“Sweat a little water, sweat a little blood”: A spectacle of convict labor at an American amusement park- great article!!
I think I remember riding this when I was little.

Love this ride!
as I 12 year old i can say proudly that flooded mine in the best ride
Gotta love this classic ride!! I truly hope the park never removes it. They’ll never make another like it.
My family went to Silver Dollar City back in December and I can say with absolute certainty that this ride is in a BAD state of disrepair.

One year during christmas they turned it into a candy factory run by elves. Wish i could find a video of it. It looked like a ton of work
Great camera
I remember Dollywood had one just like this. The last time I was there back in 1996.
Dollywood was once Silver Dollar City - Tennessee.
@@Clarinetboy82 yes I remember it being that back in the early 1980s when I was a boy.
I can tell you that this attraction is Pirates Of The Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin mixed with an old prison mine. A true Silver Dollar City masterpiece.
Great vid. I love this ride. You miss so much when you are trying to shoot things. Much better to just ride and look at all the cool scenes. 👍🏽
Thanks!!

This ride scared me as a kid but now some of the prisoners remind me of the 3 stooges
Greetings! May I use this footage in a video I'm making about this ride? I will give your channel full credit.
Sure thing!
This would be Pirates Of The Quick Draw
I remember this ride when it was all automated and the animatronics would go off as the boats passed by. I seem to recall several of the mannequins originally were made to resemble famous people. Fun memories! We love this ride!
Very beginning of the ride video and it’s Waldo lol
Did this ride have a shooting aspect at one point? There are little targets all over the place
Yes, it still does, though we didn't use the guns during this ride through.
2:13....wow, you think YOUR job's bad!
Is this during the Halloween nights?
was this at night?? this looks different than when i went on it during the day!
It's an indoor ride.
I thought the buzzsaw was supposed to break loose and come at the boat? It did when i was there in the 80's
Wasn’t this renamed fire in the hole? Haven’t been to SDC in a while
They are actually two different rides. Fire in the Hole is an indoor coaster, and this is a boat ride. They are SDC's two dark rides. Love them both!
Thank you!
Didn't this ride close in the 90's? How do you have such high quality footage of it?
It's still open.
@@TPF Oh wait. You're riding the one located in Silver Dollar City. I was thinking of the one that used to be at Dollywood.
Meeeemooories..
Did it not used to have a big drop at the end like in 1994_ 1999 ish
You might be thinking of Fire in the Hole?
The last two times I rode this, my gun didn't work. Have they fixed that?
I'm not sure but a good amount of times I've ridden it my gun hasn't worked either
I went there with my family over 50 years ago (!). I really enjoyed that ride; but my recollection is that it didn't have the targets then, and the ride ended with a massive explosion (noise and flashing light). Perhaps they took that out 'coz modern kids are too easily traumatized?
Yes, John remembers it without the targets and with the explosion at the end. Wish they still had that!
Are you sure that you're not thinking of Fire in the Hole? That one is pretty similar, and has an explosion at the end.

They took out the guns or can I just not hear them I remember shooting the targets
They are still there. 🙂

This needs to be torn out and replaced. I can imagine what it smells like in there.
What kind of demented sadism is this?
It's not demented. It's just a ride in a flooding mine with prisoners doing their punishments, that's all. The ride is quite nice so if you ever go to SDC I recommend riding it!
That was horrible. I remember it being a lot better. Seems like they don't even care about the upkeep anymore.
That's the biggest watermark I've ever seen. Downvote!
