I feel like it's both a reference and a pun. The reference being Garfield being an orange and black striped cat like Cat Viper, and the play on words with lasagna. The last syllable sounds like "Nya" which is "meow" in Japanese
This is the way our family has been making lasagna forever. Except there's no ricotta but béchamel instead.
Original old school Italian recipe...no recotta, but Bechamel.

...hadn't watched One Piece in a long time so this was my first experience with the character. Took me about halfway through this episode before I made the Garfield- -Cat Viper- -Nekomamushi connection.

It absolutely is a Garfield reference, Oda does stuff like this all the time.
Another example is how Sanji is inspired by Steve Buscemi’s character in Reservoir Dogs or the Kaido/G5 Luffy fight being inspired by Tom & Jerry.

If you add ground meat to the onions and tomatoes instead of adding onions and tomatoes to the meat, the moisture in the onions helps to break down the meat into smaller pieces so you don't have to blend it in the end.

@@joaquim4553 True, but browning the meat doesn't add much to a strong tomato sauce. Achieving that smooth texture is more important.

I suspect part of the problem is using sausage rather than ground meat. It'll tend to clump a lot more. I'd suggest kind of fine dicing/mashing it on a cutting board before cooking, to achieve the small pebbly texture of ground beef. Then you could brown it, remove it, add onions, tomato paste and garlic, tomatoes, and then re-add the meat. Maybe give it a last chopping just before that to get it extra fine or at least ensure no chunks.

Even though you shouldn't feed milk to cats because they're incredibly lactose intolerant
depends on the milk, and the age of the cat, but yeah.
There's also humans who are incredibly lactose intolerant who like milk (and make fully informed decision for themselves to suffer through the dairy anyway)

Interesting idea. It looked, as if the lasagna hat way more structure to it, than the typical layerd lasagna. Will give it a try, because nothing is worse, than lasagna, where the layers are sliding off of each other.

The one thing that made me question this recipy while also also currious to try it out was when you blended the ragoute into a paste.
You should make something or even everything from Delicious in Dungeon. It would be interesting to see what you come up with for a mandrake root that screamed itself to death.
My entire life I have always made a Napoletan-style bolognese sauce for lasagna. This video makes me want to try this variation.

Would you try making Bee's order from Bee & Puppycat: Episode 4 'Gentle Touch'? It's a great show, deserves more love. Buckwheat waffle with strawberries; a bowl of French onion soup; the roasted root vegetable medley; spinach and mushroom quiche samosas,; sorbet trio and broccoli; creme brulee a la mode!
I'd buy an Anime with Alvin cookbook if it's done in a similar way that Babish did his cookbook. Or maybe even in a manga style.
Wow, I'm glad trying something weird and unusual seemed to work out!!! Especially since it's from one of my favorite arks of my favorite series! The downside is that every time I see Nekomamushi I get his song stuck in my head, which isn't 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 a problem since the song is a bop!!!!

Personally I’d have layered it differently. I’d have gone: mean, pasta, ricotta, pasta, meat, pasta, meat, pasta, ricotta, pasta, mozzarella and Parmesan. I really enjoy how mozzarella on top of lasagne does its thing when it right on top of pasta instead of the white sauce.

I'm unsurprised this modification of the traditional technique worked well. It's reminiscent of Greek pastitsio, which has tubular pasta on the bottom, a meat sauce in the middle, and topped with a bechamel or mornay.
It's funny how I find this after watching the episode😂

"ricotta is made from milk"... Ricotta is a whey cheese... so its made of the leftover liquid from cheese making (which is made from milk i know).. But it feels a little bit backwards saying that a ricotta layer makes more sense because "cats like milk".. Idk i think the writers need a basic food class
